@@misterbubbles6389 actually it's not a myth. 48 was the number of lifeboats originally planned for Titanic by the chief designer Alexander Carlisle, 3 on each davit; however this number was eventually reduced for cosmetic reasons, to make the decks look less cluttered. The tonnage thing is actually based on a law at the time that based the number of lifeboats required on the gross register tonnage of a ship, not her passenger capacity. Her lifeboats were as follows 2 x wooden cutters (capacity 40 people each) 14 x 30 foot wooden lifeboats (capacity 65 people each) 4 x folding or ‘collapsible’ lifeboats (capacity 47 people each)

@@moviemaker2011z you are forgetting panic mode. People scrambled to get in, causing many lifeboats to be launched prematurely. I also think I recall that either 1 or 2 of the collapsible ones fell overboard when they were attempting to set them up

@@moviemaker2011z well there is also the fact, and im not sure if this was actually proven or not, but apparently there was supposed to be a safety drill the day BEFORE the accident, to get people acquainted with how to respond in such a scenario, however it never happened. The drill was just ignored and tossed overboard

to be fair the miss marple stories werent particularly long and iirc they werent super gory or anything either. i certainly read them as a child
