@@nameless7797 I'm pretty sure Matt didn't use his old technique in Metal Hellsinger. Doesn't sound nearly as raw. Clarification edit: Specifically his screams, not harsh vocals in general.

Search for shogun live loud park 2013, probably its the closer you can get. Also if there was nick at drums... what a terrible drummer he was

@@Shad0wReaper133 his screams are with the old technique in that performance, but it definitely does sound different. I think its just age and ware. Its lost a bit of its distortion

@@DeathcoreHusky The lineup was Khemmis, Whitechapel, Between the Buried and Me, then Trivium. They were all fantastic, but seeing Shogun live was the highlight of my year!

This is him?... What's on the "Dragon"-album?... Programming?... A lot of this is messy compared what he did on that album, which is insane. This... this is kind of a mess, but perhaps it's exactly that it's not completely his style and it's difficult to adapt or something. I mean, Travis' style was much more "groovy", almost old-school at this point, obviously inspired by even older drummers, while Alex is... more like the new-age machines of Metal. - This ain't it, however. That said, studio and live are different beasts, and these drumtracks are intense. - But still, I wouldn't guess this is the same person.

@Michael Angelo H. What I'm saying is that he didn't do the studio recording of Shogun for the album. Alex wasn't in the band until 4 albums later. But in this playthrough, he stayed very true to the original recording. There is almost none of his own style in it. I saw them play it live about a week after this video was uploaded and again, he played it almost exactly like it was played on the album.

@@michaelangeloh.5383 almost every band on the planet quantizes the drums to the grid after recording them when they're tracking for an album, which is why album drums always sound so perfect. The best way to describe album drums is that a human is playing them with robotic precision. Live will never be perfect because it's an actual human with the precision of a human. Alex is an absolute monster if you watch some of his other playthroughs of Trivium stuff

Id go as far as saying Shogun is up there with l’enfant sauvage, the blackening and a bunch of others as one of the best metal albums of 2000s

I feel like "Court of the Dragon" is in the same vein, as it encapsulates "Ascendancy", "Crusade", and "Shogun". While I had to get used to that album, after not really having been into Trivium since those three, I got into it exactly because it feels like those three. Like... "Phalanx" is much along the lines of the track 'Shogun'. This long groovy epic type song.

I wouldn't expect anything less.

I only recently heard BTBAM for first time and have been blown away, I am trying to slowly listen to their material so I have lots of first listens to enjoy. So far I am in love with disease, injury, madness. Every time I listen I hear something new. I’m super pumped to get to see musicians of their caliber live!

BTBAM newbie - Make sure you listen to their full albums in one sitting. They have stand out tracks, of course, but their albums are just too well done to not listen to in one sitting...a dozen times a piece and you will still hear new things each time. They are just meant to be ingested as a full meal @ToasterTheTerrible Telos>Bloom>Melting City 👌
