That's usually the case after learning a bunch of new ideas at once as it forces you to reset your usual game. That's natural, don't let it out you off.
Don't worry bro, there are always fluctuations. Just keep at it, the study time pays off with a delay of maybe some months, rating is not gonna skyrocket overnight when you're out of the hundreds
Hello, Eric! I am very happy to see your speedrun videos. I was focusing on my rating climb for a week, also streaming my way to 2000 elo and I just reached 1600 in rapid with pseudo Trompowsky and Tronpowsky as white and the Sicilian and Scandi and Benoni with black. I really hope you’ll play the other openings on your way to master
I am somewhere around 1400 rapid, but i'm kind of half-assing it because i mostly play to battle boredom and end up playing idiotic, risky openings and losing a lot. I'm at a point where i'd have to seriously study openings and refine my Theory to further improve in rating, but as of right now i dont really have the time or the incentive to do either. Love watching your videos !
When reviewing the Vienna gave, as soon as you noticed you'd missed a tactic, I saw what it was. But only for the same reason I can see tactics when doing tactics training; because I know it's there. But I definitely didn't spot it during the game.
hovering 1200 CC I did see the queen taking on f1 but I was hesitant as to whether I was missing some counter resource or whether you actually missed the tactic
I'm here before the analysis of the first game. I think a better idea in the beginning when white is attacking your pawn on e4 is just to give the material back and prioritize fast development. By the time they played the Nf3 move, you had moved your queen twice and they forced it to move a third time. Then, they made your light square bishop move twice. Meanwhile, they had three pieces developed and were prepared to castle. If you were playing that exact position against a player of a similar rating, I think you might've lost. Again, this is all before I've seen the analysis and I could be missing something
I have an addiction to quick dopamine so I usually play bullet (1000 elo) or blitz (1300) and my rapid rating is 1450 which sadly seems to be my unbreakable peak. Glad to know I’ve peaked as an amateur 😢
I've watched your videos for many years now I have decent idea of what you mean by this position will be very sharp but can you possibly elaborate a little bit on exactly what you mean by that ty love your content and my oh no my queen mug 🤣
I haven't checked this with the engine, but after a4, was there Qxf1, Bxf1, and then Bd5 to pin the Queen to the king and win it back? At a glance, that results in being up a rook for the bishop
I noticed that tactic in the first game while the black bishop was still hanging. So I imagined the next two moves after which it could actually be profitable, and was blown away that the moves actually happened that way. I have 2055 puzzle rating on lichess but no other ratings. Since I solve puzzles very slowly, so I might be about 1300-1500 rating in rapid. I donated through prime.
@@kevinbaker4164 yeah same here, I saw the potential for it after d4 attacking the bishop but realised that the bishop would still be lost afterwards, so it didn't work out. Then, after a4 allowed it again I was quite surprised that Eric missed it ngl
Do you show any videos of you losing?? Every player gets loses eventually, right? I think it would be good to talk about your most recent losses, how it happened and what you learned, etc. Thanks.
I love your speedrun, but there is some lack of d4 lessons. I understand that you recommand e4 for begginers, but at intermediary level there is a little bit more of us d4 players who already made their choice.
@@WhistlingStickman ive been to a couple but I never perform well past the second game. I won my first rated game against a 1600 Elo player but lost against a 1254 12 year old next game so Idk what to expect haha. Also I am planning on playing next week in a chessclub nearby and I always bring my minichess set to the bar and even the club
I'm 1850 blitz, 2050 rapid on LiChess, and learning loads from this speed run - thanks very much. (19:00 I did manage to spot that tactic during the game. Tactics are always easier to spot when you're not the one playing the game.)
I didn’t see the Queen sac during the game, although I could smell that there might be something and I was trying to find it. But when I saw your face looking at the engine with that position on the board it instantly became obvious to me. Crazy how easier it is to find a tactic when you _know_ there’s one.
Hi Eric! I’d love to invite you to our online event Central Park Tower Chess Pro Masters. It’s an 11 round event 3+0 being held this Sunday, March 24, at 5pm CET. The tournament is held on lichess. Prize Fund is 3000USD with 5 best prizes, 1 best streamers prize and 1 best female prize. We would greatly appreciate your participation. Our sponsor is saying that for big viewership among streamers of the event, money bonuses are possible (and likely, especially in the future events when it becomes regular). Would love to hear your response thanks!
@@abictor3312 I really like the 'Predator at the Chessboard' website for getting better at tactics. It's what I wish I'd had when I was around 1000, and it's still useful now I'm over 1800. The site seems down at the moment, but can be viewed through Wayback Machine. (It's so good I ended up buying the book version.)
Eric bro i started following you in 2018 and I was feeling very nostalgic yesterday still remembering those old days and the state of chess at that time. I went through a lot of your old stuff, you were my first chess teacher my repertoire was all of your opening recommendations and I still play some of them. Chess has come too far I am happy for the growth of the channel, keep it up!
I'm currently around 1350 rapid on lichess. I've gotten a friend of mine into chess over the past year and a half and that has really helped me to improve my rating. Love the series.
First time ever commenting on your channel. Surprised when I did see the temporary queen sac on the first game. Of course I paused the video after each move which gave me plenty of time to find such moves. Thanks for the many hours of great content. Forever a fan.
In my first game after watching this video I faced the French defense and it went in to the exact same variation as your last game but with Kxh7, what a feeling to play Qd3 instead of throwing the game away and deliver that checkmate 😍 thanks for creating the best content on RU-vid!
Keep at it man, those early days are the best because you can really start crushing your opponents once you learn some solid openings and simple tactics.
1164 rapid on Lichess - Your thought process in these videos is very helpful. I still have to constantly remind myself to check all of my pieces and not just where the action is. Because that's where I end up losing. Or I take too much time and blunder with 30 seconds left. Thanks for the up;loads
At 11:10 instead of gxf4 taking the bishop right away I saw another in between move I think you should have played using the same idea you mentioned several times. Bd5! forces the queen to move off the diagonal so it will never be able to take b2, then you take the very strong bishop on g2 with check. And finally you can play gxf4 with no consequences. Would have been a very clean win if you had played this I think. Also possible but not as good was Bxf5 in between move. But I think forcing the bishop trade would've been crushing here.
Eric is an IM so his perception of weaker players is distorted, 1475 means that you are stronger than >90% of chess amateurs basically. Not average by any means, even if we 1400s still suck :D
1475... average amateur rating... ouch - that hurt :/ I am rated 800 in rapid - not really study anything - just playing some moves mostly italian / scotch games blundering as allways - thought i was the average beginner - guess i am trash :(
I have no rating. I played competitively on the high school varsity team 30 years ago but never was rated by any kind of number. Now I play a game occasionally in person and usually destroy my opponents. I have been watching your videos in this series and would probably take my first loss in one of the last two videos. Does this mean I might be around a 1400 player?
1869 FIDE, in lichess 2181 rapid and currently 1860 blitz. Started playing chess about 5 years ago at the age of 30, also had some 1.5 years Break in between. I have never played Blitz the first 3-4years, so I'm definitely worse in fast time controls. The current 1860 isn't near my peak though
Wow, I'm rated 1456 on lichess. I've always considered myself a beginner, but to hear that I'm somewhere between a beginner and a master is a huge honor!
It's disheartening to see my fellow Vienna players at this level being almost as lazy as London players ;) not knowing what to do after 3... d5 4. fxe5 4... Nxe4 is pretty bad. Would have loved to have seen another Paulsen Attack (4. Qf3) with the Bardeleben Variation as Eric's preferred response (4... f5). 17:27 g3 is an instructive mistake from white, as it doesn't seem to be inherently damaging to white's game. However, the engine reveals that Nc6 is the best move with a whopping -2.81 eval! After looking at the lines ahead in the engine, I think Nc6 is such a great move because it threatens either Nb5 or Nd5 aiming for the fork on c2. Nd4 in particular is gaining a potential tempo on the white queen, which will most likely come to e2 to defend the pawn, of which we saw in the game. Combining the Nc6 move with a bishop on f5 that x-rays the c2 square, and white starts to realise they don't have time to take back the pawn on e4.
1) I play all my games in Lichess, so my rating is specific to that platform. 2) Ratings are specific to different time controls. I play mostly blitz, with a rating currently around 1700. But my bullet rating is under 1400. Every now and then I play a few bullet games to get over 1400, but I can’t seem to do it. 3) Different time controls have different strengths of players. I played several hundred 3/2 blitz games and my rating hit 1600 and was pretty stable. I switched to playing 5/3 games, and in a week my rating went to 1700, where it has generally stayed. My theory is that the shorter the game, the better the players on Lichess playing that time control, even within the somewhat arbitrary bullet/blitz/rapid categories. . 4) I don’t really have a sense of what my rating number actually means except in relation to someone else’s rating. A more meaningful number to me is the “percent of players you’re better than” number that Lichess gives you. At least I know what that means.
Hi Eric, in rapid I'm around 1150, blitz 850-1000 and bullet lower, around 600, even though I play a lot of bullet. Maybe it's because I'm slow or maybe the player pool is of higher average skill. Any idea?
Best game of the series! Nag1978 is a STRONG 1464. How well did he/she play! I didn't recognize the flag, do you know where Nag is from? I don't know what my rating is as I haven't played a rated game in over 30 years but I think Nag would beat me.
9:49 and interesting line here could be: sac the queen Qxf1 Bxf1 so then Bd5 pinning the queen to the king and forcing Qxd5 Rxd5 if Bc4 you might save the F pawn by forcing a trade with the horsey and you may end up with a rock up vs bishop Maybe Im missing something idk, Im not even close to a IM so😂 Love your videos Eric, greetings from Spain❤ Edit: Nevermind, I saw the review at 18:41 😂
Li chess 3+2 blitz almost exclusively.. I was stable around 1650 for a while... but been playing bad lately, dipped into 1560s and am currently 1602... my all time best was around 1790... I really badly want to break 1800.
Game 1 maybe was interesting - the question (to my mind) is if the moves ....0-0-0; ...Kd7; ...Kc6; ...Kc5 were part of a plan. If they were merely serendipitous then I'm sorry but the game was a bit sloppy.
I’m not sure why it would interest you what your viewers and fans are rated but, since you ask, I am about 800 playing 10 min games. My worst fault is playing too quickly and not acknowledging threats. When I take my time, I tend to blunder less frequently. My rating even totters above 800 very occasionally, before slumping back down after doing something idiotic. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos and your enthusiasm for the game. Thanks.
Eric almost lost to a 1400 player -- that's very weird! He's like 1200+ points higher-rated than this guy...UNLESS the guy's not actually a 1400, which in my opinion he played at a much higher level.
Maxed at about 1700. In the first game I did not see q takes r. That first game was giving me such anxiety lol. I play rapid, blitz and bullet. In bullet (1+1) I think like 75% of my losses are from timeouts (and at least 2/3 of those games I'm either equal or more likely in a winning position).
During the game I was thinking that after white plays Nf5 you could play Bd5, forcing the queen to move, because Qf5+ was no longer possible and Nxe7+ would be met with Nxe7 successfully guarding f5 again. You would win that bishop and be guaranteed to trade off the other bishop
from 8:30 to 10:05, isn't there Qxf1 bxf1 Bd5 pinning the white queen to the king effectively winning a rook for a bishop? EDIT: okay explanation came at 18:38 with engine analysis, still happy I found it during the game though :P
Currently I’m about 1300 on Lichess Rapid. Only about a month or two ago I was about 1000 though. I’ve been growing quickly since learning more about the Ponziani!
Currently 1280 on rapid. Trying to break into 1300's. I took the plunge and purchased a couple of books and courses to help with my study. I should collate a study regime to help me achieve my goals.
Eric, there is a video game called King of the Bridge. You should get it (it's $3) and play it. I think you would enjoy it and it would give you some great content. In fact, steam has SO SO many chess games. You could make a whole series of trying them out and seeing how hard the hardest difficultly is. When I was flying recently, the plane had a chess game on it. I was surprised at how easy the hard bot was. I think a series where you just try out chess bots on games could also be fun to watch.
1100 ELO, playing 15+10 Playing for about 3 months now, and I feel like I've reached a point where I have to study a bit more theory to go higher Mostly playing off instinct at the moment
No wonder I cannot rank up if 1450s are playing so well... Very instructive Greek Gift presentation, Id always thought to play diagonally with the queen and not towards the center.... very nice!
I'm about 1110. Highest was about 1180. I play when I am waiting for things randomly, so I resign a lot. I also have good and bad days. If I had to honestly estimate, I think I am capable of 1600 in a month or two if I played seriously.
Eric I was rated 700 and i have used the speed run, which is very clear and informative, to reach a rating of 1000. Thank you for the excellent content. I have watched all 35 episodes, and many multiple times. I look forward to seeing out the full speed run. cheers. chris
I'm around 1100 Lichess, but play very little, I enjoy watching speedruns too much. But I did see the queen sac, which makes me very happy and might be the pinnacle of my chess career :)
My highest score is 509 I think but I’ve been getting pacified this week. 439😢 I finally beat my stepdad over the board twice last week so I think I’m decent again
I was close to plateau at around 1100 and since I started watching this series I have recently broke through 1300 and still improving. Rapid rating that is.
19:17 yes it was seen. As soon as I saw you missed this, I figured you'd have something to say about it in the game review. We can't catch all the tactics all the time 🤷🏾♂
I haven't played enough timed rated games to establish yet but I do need to push myself to do so for a starting basis. As far as correspondence chess which is what I have time for mostly I am around 1700 and puzzle(tactics) training is similar
It's interesting how between danya's speedruns and eric's speedrun, you can sort of see the difference between an IM and GM. danya pretty much completely wipes the floor against anyone below 2000. eric is a stronger player than I will ever be but compared to danya makes a lot more inaccuracies that can get him into trouble even in the amateur range. it's cool seeing how big of a difference positional and tactical minutiae can make.
still trying to get to 900 rating, im close tho :D its my 4th month playing chess and you helped me a lot, thank you and keep it up, u're doing a good job. my favorite chess streamer for sure
i just hit my highest rating of 908. i should not have hit it because i played 5 games that day and i lost the first, then i SHOULD have lost the next three but i won them. then i actually won pretty hard on the actual game where i broke 900.
