Jesse, I went to the Haven Creek boat ramp yesterday morning and fought that wind through the Lafayette River and my Garmin Striker 4cv was trying to tell me to go home. I can count on one hand the number of fish I saw in 7 hours. Managed to get a couple of croaker and an ugly fish I’ve never seen before. Looked like a mix of a dogfish and a puffer?!?!!? Trout were just not having it.

I fish for Trout in SW Florida, out of my kayak. I am on grass flats and seldom get into Trout water that is more than six feet deep. So until I find a school of baitfish, trolling is my main method. When I do locate a school, it's all casting until the bite stops and I have to go find the baitfish again. My go-to lure is Mirrodine 27 MRS Silver. There are few species that will not hit it and that's why I use it for my primary search lure.

Trolling as an excellent way to find the depth and location of feeding trout. This includes fresh water trout like rainbows and such as well. Once you dial in the depth and location then you can make those casts to have your fix.

You let the cat out of the bag!!! Lol. I have the same yak but powered by MK. I troll a lot and it works well. I do it to locate the fish and I believe the fish will follow the bait for longer periods some times and trolling gives u the time instead of casting. Just my opinion. I catch plenty casting to. Just depends on how lazy I am!! Lol. Nice fish man.

Just came across your channel today, in reference to jig head and plastic bait while TROLLING what brand and name of the color were you using quarter ounce jig head quarter-ounce, 3/8 etc. etc. etc. thanks from Southern Louisiana

I agree with you that casting is way more fun than trolling, but trolling is really effective, especially for trout. I catch at least half my trout on the troll. I do troll pretty much anytime I am moving on the kayak and on slow days will sometimes troll around to try to locate fish.

Always like your content. Like you said depends on the day. But I’ve had similar results. While trout fishing because of this same occurrence I switched my twitch twitch pause retrieve to a slow reel retrieve. Sometimes brings big results. Panama City beach, Fl

Hey Jesse, don't feel bad about trolling... it's kind of a secret fishing weapon that few anglers want to acknowledge, lol... I've caught several different species PBs this year alone while trolling and since you can cover more water with more baits, what's not to like? Will be seeing you in about a week and a half for a sheepshead charter trip. Tight lines and keep up the good videos!
