The TROMBA might be perfect for taking with you on vacation without fear of losing a $3,500 trumpet.

Nice. Thanks for the demo. Considering this because of travel. It seems to have a slightly darker tone but definitely sounds good enough to keep your lip up!

+Kaeli Ferguson My friend travels a lot for his work and keeps in great shape traveling with the Tromba trumpet and a practice mute. He really makes good use of it!

Ken, you do well for the instrument that you have. I am not going to state that these instruments are toys, as I see them as instruments that are made of a different and workable material. I also will not say that there is no difference in the sound between them and a fine brass horn. There is a world of difference in the sound. The most noticeable differences to me are the 'drop-offs' or lack of crispness at the conclusion of playing a note...and of course there is a much flatter resonance . I do not however expect plastic to have a ringing tone and I am very impressed for what these are.

Exactly! And I personally love something kinda saxophony on jazz trumpet and Blue Spanish Eyes or classical music is not my idea of my personal trumpet sound. At times I prefer the sound of my tromba plastic over my good Yamaha trumpet because I don't want the glaring overtones.

Ken, thanks for the video. Even though it's a couple years old now it had the info I needed. I've been wanting to mess around with a C trumpet, Tromba now has one that is silver for a stupid cheap price. It won't play like a pro level horn but then again I'm not a pro.. My biggest concern was having to use their plastic mouthpieces. I play on Marcinkiewicz mouthpieces (trumpet, flugle and pic) and don't' really feel like adapting to a new one. I can use my regular Bb Shew! Also like to echo another comment below to the person who want to learn to play our wonderful pile of brass addiction. Thanks for taking the time to offer a bit of guidance instead of ignoring or belittling. We all had to start somewhere and some time. BTW I have been using Ultrapure for a long time. Except on my pic, it doesn't like it... True trumpet players horror story behind that discovery..

Great demonstration! What type of mouthpiece would you recommend for a beginner ?
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 8 лет назад
+Arun Saha Most beginners when they are young and have smaller lips will start on a 7C. As their lips grow in size and strength, they move to a bit larger mouthpiece, usually around a 3C or even larger (some brands have different numbering schemes. I am referring to the Bach trumpet mouthpiece numbering convention.) The larger mouthpiece will have a generally fuller and richer tone but takes a bit more strength.

+Ken Saul Thanks for your response! So the 1.25C you are using must be really large! I'm in my early thirties and I am about the start learning the instrument, what size would recommend ?
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 8 лет назад
+Arun Saha I would recommend a 3C to an adult beginner.

I want to buy a trumpet but i dont know how to play. Do you change the tone or pressure of the air from your mouth to get different notes? I noticed you were not pressing down on the valves and still changing notes.
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 8 лет назад
+Cesar A Hi Cesar, there are only seven valve combinations but with those seven, you can play the full chromatic scale. You change from one "level" to the next (one valve combination) by a subtle combination of faster air, tighter lips, raised tongue, etc. After some time on the horn, it becomes second nature. You hear the tone in your head and your body knows what to do to produce that tone. There are some very good trumpet tutorials on youtube - search for "how to play trumpet".

Is it still holding up 2 years later?
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 7 лет назад
Absolutely! Since I only play the Tromba plastic trumpets on fairly rare occasion, they are still like new and play fine. No issues with any parts breaking, etc.

im trying to decide between the tromba and the ptrumpet. they both sound good, the tromba is better looking, but the ptrumpet is slightly cheaper. thoughts, anyone?
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 8 лет назад
Most players prefer the Tromba for its tone and ease of playing. The metal valves and a metal portion of the leadpipe are also in Tromba's favor.

+Ken Saul thank you so much for your feedback. I use to play the trumpet a bit in high school, I mostly played french horn. I just want something cheap but still nice so I can play again.

DieterLo1 I see these Tromba trumpets listed in amazon.co.uk for 120GPB. Very likely available now in Germany. I also have the Tromba C trumpet, which is actually very good and has a brighter tone compared to the Bb model. These should also be available very soon in the same stores that carry the Bb model.

I plan to visit the large International Music Fair in Frankfurt, beginning at 15th of April 2015. May be i find one over there too? Okay, i am very interested in a c-modell, because i am accordion player and it is more eysy for me to play the c-model, if i play without notes, but if i play with notes it does not matter b or c., but also can play slow songs in b. Thanks for your advise, it was a great presentation you did. Greetings from Germany, near Frankfurt am Main.

@johnpknuckles4739

The precision needed for the slide and valves will be impossible for your 3d printer :( sad
@KenSaul
@KenSaul 8 лет назад
+JohnPKnuckles The engineers at the Tromba company use 3D printing and precision machining to make a working prototype, improve on it until it is quite good, and then they create the plastic molds to use in mass production. So 3D printing is definitely useful in speeding up the design and refinement process.
