I think you are referring to the fact that this movie represents Jack Black more in his element than anything else he has ever done. This is why he should replace Ellen DeGeneres: He would be perfect for the kind of show Ellen fakes.

This movie is so precious. A proper feel good movie that’ll never get old for me. Bless these kids that are grown up by now and their musical chemistry is beautiful. I frickin love this scene
Actually “Man posing to be teacher stalks kids in music class and enters them into a competition without their parent’s consent and forced them to play music so he can pay his rent so he has a place to live” The Movie
Seeing Jack Black this young and seeing what he's like now, makes me happy that he's never lost touch with his inner self, he's still a kid stuck in a grown man's body.
I whole-heartedly believe that Jack Black’s performance in this movie is one of the best of all time, and that he should’ve been nominated for an academy award.
The smile Freddy gives when Dewey praises his drumming is so great. Clearly he never thought he was gonna be good at music so was that kid relegated to the triangle in music class, but now he's not only able to play something but receiving praise for doing a good job. love that positive reinforcement Also side not, same thing with Lawrence's smile when jack is singing that he is good at piano
Man the acting Jack Black Has Done in this movie is totally badass and the passion he shows while playing rock music or the guitar that is just amazing!!!
One underrated thing from this scene is the camera work. The subtle zoom in on Jack after the kid asks "are we not in the band?" Shows without words how much that hit home for his character. This movie truly is an underrated masterpiece and something I go to whenever I need a pick-me-up. Love it.
@@mustardretard1242 I know, that's what I'm saying -- she went through a hard time but is doing well now. I just started following her on instagram & she's sober.
I have a feeling that particular question really hit him. At first he just wanted to keep playing. But then he didn´t want anyone to feel left out, just like he was left out of his own band. Plus the delivery, maybe I´m overthinking but it got my attention lol
Man he is up there with this performance how in touch with his inner child. Watching this as an adult is quite therapeutic and healing and never got the message as a child but as an Adult it’s whole different meaning. Always follow your passion, never give up even when the world is against you!
You never know what you got until it's gone. I wish I could turn back time to 15 year old me watching this in the cinema for the first time not knowing how much of a masterpiece and prime Jack Black was. The way he moves his body when he starts playing the guitar will FOREVER make me giggle.
As I recall the only one they struggled with was Immigrant Song in the van after they get into battle of the bands, because Zeppelin almost never give anyone the rights to their stuff
My favorite part of this scene is how he is physically unable to contain his excitement when playing the different guitar riffs or when listening to Zach. Basically how we all feel when we hear something like "Highway to Hell". You just have to let out some grunts or "yes!". Its what rock does to us all.
This movie taught me a life lesson.. I am a sci-fi type of guy, I avoid musical movies, dramas, anything that isn’t stimulating enough for my mind.. that is the number one mistake i have made, watching only the genre that im interested in made it lose its magic and therefore basically life isn’t as enchanting as it was when i was a kid ; when id watch tv channels that broadcasted all genres of shows, movies.. as i grew older I learned to appreciate every genre and have patience, which finally will lead me to come full circle and become enchanted by tv, movies, once again..
This will always be one of my favorite movies to ever exist, I just feel like jack black cane in and made these kids feel so safe an comfortable, they just had fun on set and made music, plus It’s was my rerun childhood movie. At 22 I still love tf out of this movie like I did at 10 ❤️
That’s exactly what a loser is - having the talent that no one seems to appreciate and not having the chance to shine. If you have no talent in anything you are simply not human.
I ve just watched this film for the first time. It’s just been screened on regular terrestrial tv in the UK. Brilliant! Couldnt stop watching. I’m 65! Never heard of Jack Black before but he deserved awards for this perfomance!
When I saw this movie when it came out I started playing drums because of it. Today I am literally doing his Job and pulled the Smoke on the Water thing with my 11 year old band students. Inspiration is everything!
Just leaving this here for reference... 0:00 "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream 0:47 "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath 1:01 4:06 "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple 1:18 "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC 1:54 "Touch Me" by The Doors 6:22 "Tomorrow" by Alicia Morton 6:37 "Amazing Grace" by John Newton 6:58 "Memory" by Barbara Streisand
It's clever how Dewey is talking to them in such a delicate and non-pressuring way during this scene, knowing full well that his idea could well just be a flash in the pan pipe dream.
He was also never mean to those kids. It would have been so easy to make him be cruel and then “learn his lesson” by the end of the movie but no, he is nothing but supportive the whole time.
@@CameraHam exactly. He even tells Zack that he is so much better of a guitar player than he is and can write great songs. It's actually very heartwarming and sweet the way he embraced them and helped them find their skills
I watched this movie again tonight and am reminded how "similar" the music & arrangement was to "drum circles" i put on & facilitate. I go into schools, companies, organizations, after-school programs & outreach with as many as 80-100 of my percussion instruments. I often work with people who've never played musical instruments before. And it poses unique challenges when people have neither played, nor have much music aptitude. Fortunately for this movie, they had months to screen, cast, and teach these kids to play these parts. Compare that to my going into a school with an assortment of percussion instruments, and within 30-60 minutes, I've got kids rocking out. Age can make a big difference too, for when kids reach 14, 15, and 16 they’ve often had some music exposure & developed some skills.
TheHolyDiver 1 both were. Tenacious D was a project made by Jack, school of Rock was written by Mike White (the guy who plays Jack’s roommate) for Jack to play. The entire reason he wrote it was because he thought it was a cool idea for a Jack Black movie.
The way he twists himself around while he's cranking on the guitar at the end of this scene perfectly illustrates how much his talent made this film work.
what a fabulous movie, always loved Jack Black... his performance is fantastic, and so so funny.. and so musically talented .... this applies to ALL ages watching this, Music is everything x
Jack looked like he wasn't originally planning to have everyone in the band, but a kid asked otherwise, so he found things for them to do... He does this several times throughout the movie. When someone asks if they could do something else that he wasn't originally planning from them, he says go for it.
Because in that instant he remembered what it felt like to be left out of the band. This movie has such a positive message that everyone belongs and everyone is good at something, it's just a matter of finding it. From anyone else it could come across as corny but with Jables, it's just fun.
