Great post, Daniel. I watched “Soul” for the first time today. As a professional jazz trombonist myself, I was also very emotionally moved by the film. I was very curious who played the solo for the movie, and I watched the credits closely but the trombonist wasn’t noted. I’m very familiar with Andy Martin’s sound. Considering he gets most of the trombone recording work in L.A., I might have guessed it was him, but while the solo was nice, it wasn’t spectacular. Your comment that he was advised to tone it down to intermediate caliber now makes sense. Thank you for inspiring trombonists everywhere!
