Holy Smokes dude!!! Man! Your range and flexibility has me in awe. I've been playing trombone for 30 years, and bouncing off those lower register notes is NOT EASY. very nice.
HE'S ONLY TRIPLE TOUNGUING WHAT A NOOB! But seriously, the range, finesse, and the ease with which Gilkes transfers between completely different ranges and embouchures leaves me in awe
Unbelievable! I am still In the retro mode, eg Green, Watrous, and my all time fav. Si Zentner, but this guy is an over the top Superman of the horn. He has everything, but I would to like to hear him play a ballad with vibrato, just for the same of hearing it.
I hobby play trombone and I know a trombonist that practices 8 hours a day every day that could be marshalls dad that played since before M was born. He's serious when he says M is a better trombonist.
@metsoforte Bb :3 I tried playing this on my double-rotor bass... My slide's nowhere near fast enough, nor is it responsive to get those nice lip slurs...
carlbone22, are you serious? i think you have to take the piece for what it is, i could be wrong but I don't get the impression he was looking for what you would call "heart". was he showing off, probably, and if I could do what he's doing i would too :)
The greatest trombonist in every way, sound, technique, range everything, He avoids vibrato. Amazing, but I am very old school, and for easy listening, my preference for listening would still be Watrous and Si Zentner, greats from the old days. I am not a great fan of modern trombone music but do appreciate the great advances in recent years.
