Michel Camilo is still, after 36+ years, an unsung “DaVinci-type” hero and revolutionary jazz pianist. Well, who among the gods are recognized until they are dead. Doesn’t matter. He has made his mark for now and for all time. And for that, as a listener, I am grateful.
I have never see a comment like that from a Dominican yet, like they said "Nobody is a Prophet in his own land"". Camilo is to me one of the best in the Jazz world. In the Dominican Republic very few know his music. Thank you for your input.
Yo si se de hablo, ustedes los regulares, saben quien es Raul Diblasio y Gonzalo Rubalcaba y hasta dicen que es Mejor, jajjajajjajajjaja, Not your Regular, Run of the mill Dominican, Comprende? I guess you dont speak English Ivan?.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Camilo perform live and I must say he is nothing short of a beast, with total dominance of his instrument.Speed, precision, clarity & many other attributes. He is a master!
Para mi, el mejor del mundo en este género. El nivel es alto, un peso completo. Tremendo; limpieza, dominio, destreza, seguridad, balance, melodía, armonía y seguridad. Lo respeto y admiro.
Today August 22, 2013 marks the first anniversary of Charles Flores' passing. A wonderful friend, great bassist and Grammy winner. He is still dearly missed by all of us. Keep Swingin' in Heaven Charles!!!
I don't know whether he plays too fast or too many notes but Michel Camilo's playing makes me happy with all it's energy, enthousiasm and latin way of thinking music. I'm sure Dizzy would have loved that
Usually this is a trumpet driven piece, but as often we've seen, whoever has the "chops" can take the lead. But its' beauty is that it allows solos within the piece!
To all most comments here, real jazz is suppose to be interpretative according each performer visualization on the piece, can you appreciate that? on bass Charles Flores departed to soon, we were neighbors in CT, i can attest of the countless hours of practice on a daily basis; so the rest of the trio... who of you critics can perform at that level? speak up...
9:13 Para que Michel Camilo se acomode en el piano a mirarte soleando, es porque eres un Fenómeno.. 😲😵Dafnis Prieto👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏.Te pasaste!!!!!!!.... Saludos desde Chile🇨🇱.
I played a gig last night with a wonderful big band and it was my 80th birthday. I was in a great mood and I wanted to unwind so I found this video, OMG, blew me away......Life is good..
At first I passed out. Then I realized I was looking at, and hearing real geniuses. Now I laugh because my Drums looked so happy. Thanks , Dafnis. Latin Blood burns.
You think you´re doing alright until you listen to music like that then you realize you don´t know jack shit. This is beautiful and scary as hell at the same time.
Lee Ben Nasr Michael is really one of the best, I like his music so much, but even Michael recognize that the master of master is Chucho Valdes. I recomend you to see the movie "Calle 54" is a great one to enjoy all this incredible musician.. just a little piece of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Euos7BTcEEI.htmlm11s
Had the chills almost throughout. Unbelievable dynamics and chemistry. This is exactly what happens when you have 3 master class performers having fun. Bravo!
Yes it is fast. It seems strange to say that a musician has too much speed in his technical ability. It is however tight. When he played with Tito Puente he was more laid back. Perhaps Michael needs to get off of the Cocaine if that is what is happening here.
Benjamin David In the introduction, Michel did some things completely unnecessary and Agressive at the instrument. He wasn´t this way, looks like there´s something wrong !
I don’t know why this brilliant musician is playing so ugly. I once experienced mr. Camiio within the first 30 minutes of his concert - playing a wonderful Steinway completely out of tune. I suppose you can imagine how the rest of the concert sounded. In this recording it is quite obvious how it happens. You can actually hear every time Camilo is not only hitting the string but actually hit the key so hard you can hear the key against the wood. Even he also have a developed technique I his sound feels wrong. Effecient for partying. I will never enjoy
oh the energy in their performance is fascinating , and most of all the drum solo made me smile , looking at how Michael Camilo and the Bassist were amazed by his amazing chops
Coming from that 'Caribe' video to this.. that video has hands down the most ripping musicians ever. This though is .. wow. very wow. so wow. much wow.
This "A Night In Tunisia" by this Trio is the best ""A Night In Tunisia" for me. By the way, about 3 years ago there is "From Within" by this Michel Camilo Trio's playing movie on youtube and I really like it but that is disappeared. Do you have it? If so would you up load that again? Thank you!
Haven't checked out michel camilo for a while, so just realize charles passed away from the comments. Darn it... he is one of my fav bass players... RIP Charles.
2:00 Bassist looks at Michael He’s thinking: “ God Damn! I could have driven home, to take a nap, made coffee, had a shower and still had time to get dressed , drive back to the gig and stand here once again waiting. ‘Cause he still would not be finished with his cadenza.” See for yourself
Wow I'm going to agree that there are a lot of notes! Not that it's a bad thing. What's great is that they still made it musical with this many notes and enjoyed the crap out of it!
There was another time when God let such a burst of directed energy travel through a man. That's when Moses parted the sea. Only that was much slower. (And I don't think Moses had such a grin on his face! But you never know.) All praise to The Father Most High for lending mere mortals such talent and for giving us the understanding to enjoy it. You never cease to amaze me, Michel. Never cease to amaze me.
yo ears and brain just need to learn to listen......faster. nice to see 3 guys really enjoying each other's playing. none of that "ho hum that riff...again?" pose
