I've noticed that the American audience generally dislikes transhumanist themes, not sure if they just find it boring or goes over their head, but any movies that have a futurist concept and they start whining for explosions, while generally deriding them.
When I was little, I didn't really realize until after the movie that Clu must have been CG. I know now that reviewers weren't too sold on it, but 12yr me wasn't phased by his appearance at all. The movie was just too good
@@Rocksteady72a I'd seen the Final Fantasy Spirits Within movie... this cgi is by the same studio. It didn't stick out to me until the scene where he's making the long speech to his army.
Can we just talk about the lighting of this movie. The suits, the scenes and even the vehicles are all beautifully created with obvious care and thought
They made hay babies. They set the barn on fire. The fire department came. They found this guy and David Tennant. There was a third sibling no one knows about who joined the french foreign legion and who accidentally resurrected a mummy with the help of his librarian girlfriend and her womanizing brother.
It would have been nice for him to have a redemption arc in a sequel, and maybe his relationship with Quorra explored and explained. But we can only dream 😞
Oh Zuse is a program. He could make a comeback....if Tron was not killed off so quickly by Disney. All because it was "Unmarketable" and couldn't really sell toys and products based on the IP. Also, buying Star Wars did not help Tron's future. Really, Disney should sell off the Tron IP by this point. I hear they are really hurting for money. You know...being how they are racebaiting in children shows.
@Trazyn If he can forge disc's and has the power he has. I bet he is far from dead when it come to a good writer. Anything with this character is possible
He really does have the weird kind of phenomenon does he? Watched him and good omens and all I could think is, isn’t that dude from twilight?” Completely forgetting I saw him Tron😂😂😂
There's something about Clu having a 3D face, that with the uncanny valley makes him more part of the grid then the other characters. I think if all the Programs had 3D faces like Clu (the faces being from the respective actors) while the users stayed as live action, it might create a more interesting feeling of being inside the grid.
@@seditioncase5848 Yes, he's not supposed to look CGI. What I'm saying is that they could've used that to their advantage. By making the programs all CGI, which would make them unique and it would serve a purpose. Instead of this weird feeling that we know young Jeff Bridges/Clu is CGI, while everybody else is live action. Of course what they also need to do is eliminate those scenes in the real world where we see young Jeff Bridges, before he goes into the grid, so it doesn't ruin the effect.
I'm not too sure about this but I've heard it somewhere that CLU is supposedly the perfect being and even among the programs he is unique and perfect, so a CGI face for being perfect and unique has it's own perks.
I remember seeing this film with 3D glasses in the cinema. The scenes in the real world were shot in 2D while those in the program were 3D. It wasn't just a movie. It was freaking ARCHITECTURE!!
To Be Announced Ye but i thought ISOs have weird symbols that r light up like the symbol on Quorra’s arm. The other ISOs had those glowing symbols too in the flashback in uprising when clu passes them.
You can see Zuse was very nervous about this meeting with CLU. He knew he had to pick his words very wisely to make sure CLU was gonna still respect their deal but still Zuse got backstabbed by him for the master disc. This movie truly holds a hidden special place in my heart and i'm still waiting for a third movie even if it won't hold up for this one.
Micheal Sheen is an excellent actor. Just for example watch his face, hear to his voice showing the mixed emotions of being in his position at this moment (greed, fear, joy etc).
Fun fact, Zuse was named after one of the early inventors of the computer, Konrad Zuse. The Z3 was one of the first Turing-complete machines (minus conditional branching) built back during the early 1940s
@@weijiewang9844A:-Tron is a really obscure and nieche franchise. B:-It had staff who weren't commercially viable aside from daft punk. C:-Released next to INCEPTION!
Such a good display of why even tyrrants get bored of their underlings. Youll always find the weakest little weasels who betray themselves just to worm their way under the boot of their master. After a while, any leader gets tired of insects.
Interesting thing, there was a video game that had come out years ago (I think it was on Sega Dreamcast) called (IIRC) Omikron....and David Bowie played an NPC computer-character....a bit more benevolent than Zuse. 😁
@@leandersc7217 You either go down Michael Sheen's whole filmography or David Tennant's or BOTH We boutta watch Underworld, a shitload of Shakespeare, Doctor Who again, Fright Night, fuck knows what else. Jessica Jones or some shit idk.
Notice Zuse tries to get a word from him but Clu was in control. He doesn't need to speak, He just casually made a drink for Zuse then Proceeds to give him a "Send off" - Chillin like a villain.
This scene and this movie is awesome! I would just have loved an extra close-up on Zuse's face just before the explosion, looking toward Clu (so towards the camera), hastily drinking his drink from a single sip, his hand trembling slightly, with an expression of apprehension but determination on his face, and then the explosion. That would have been even more awesome!
I respectfully disagree, that wouldn’t fit the character i think they were portraying. Castor seems to be a flamboyant, egotistical person who’s politically opportunistic hence him asking for control of the main city. His face of shock fits the character as he thought he was the one pulling the strings for his negotiation only to realise clu was playing him the entire time. I do like ur description tho and it would fit for someone else.
Honestly I feel like whoever described how Zuse's character should look couldn't get the right looks out of the artist, so they said "make him look like david bowie"
This franchise had so much potential for greatness; lore on lore could've been created out of the premise alone. The years in between could've been filled with grit, and legend.
John McKenna it is purely zeus’ ego finally catching up to him. He is a vain flamboyant character, and after all of this time sucking up to clu, he has deluded himself to think he either had the upper hand or that he is too important that he would never be derezzed. So its pure karma
I would say for this the best comebacks from the main character to the computer character villains would be “think you’re real smart being smarmy like that, but what would I expect…after all I created your code in two hours while drunk.”
When I saw this movie in the theater, and saw how Castor/Zuse was a famous resistance fighter and then he betrayed them and handed the disc over to Clu and then got destroyed, I thought, "Oh, I know what's going to happen. Since Zuse is in the resistance and he knows CLU wants the disc he planted a virus in the disc, so when CLU makes his army they'll be damaged and useless. Zuse is actually sacrificing himself to save the Tron world and everbody." Then CLU made his army and they were fine and it turned out Castor/Zuse was just a big dummy who made a big play and got blown up. That really disappointed me because I loved the way Michael Sheen played the character and wanted him to be a good guy. Oh well.
I always thought peewee herman played that character for some reason. Loved this movie, the visual style, the soundtrack, and the computer equivalent of biogenesis then being brought into the real world was a great ending.

Named after Konrad Zuse, who built the world's first programmable computer. Wonderful performance by Michael Sheen. Some query CLU's use of "End of Line". That is the name of the club operated by Zuse, and CLU is being ironic. End of Line of the End of Line Club...and it's owner.
