TRON Lightcycle Coaster Officially Confirmed for WDW - Disney News - 7/15/17 

1:16, since disney announced that they are trying to make a TRON 3 with Jared Leto as a new character name Ares, 2018 of filming, 2019 may Tron the ride opens, so as december 2019 january 2020 TRON 3 is released that is my theory.

1:17 for hidden Mickey. I think that they will open up the Tron lightcycle coaster in Summer of 2021. I have worked at Disney World for two years and the amount of guests they get in the summer is ridiculous and not to mention people coming right after in the Fall months for holidays as well. As well as all the other stuff coming to the other parks in 2019 and 2020 it makes sense that they will debut something new every Summer. Also just want to say that I really appreciate all the videos and hard work you've done this week for D23 and keeping us all in the loop and always providing good insight into things; really appreciate it Jack.

1:16 Because Disney has March 21, 2021 as the closest release date for a untitled (non-fairytale) live action film, I believe this date is for the third Tron. If this holds true, the light cycle coaster should debut in fall 2020 or early 2021. Since WDW didn't open until October of 1971, would early 2021 still count as before the 50 year celebration?! Regardless, my guess is the ride will open within months of the movie release for promotion and I couldn't be more excited! Thanks for the awesome D23 coverage Jack!

1:16 I believe the Tron Coaster will open around late 2020 to early 2021. For imagineers to fully make this ride magical, they need a lot of time to develop this ride. Also there will be a lot of new rides coming to Epcot like GOTG and lands like Toy Story Land and the Star Wars Land and Disney wants those new attractions to have the spotlight instead of releasing all these attractions at once. I already know this ride will be incredible and it will be the perfect addition to the parks just in time for the 50th anniversary to handle the crowds and celebrate the legacy of Disney World!!

1:16 I think the Tron light cycle coaster will be released in the winter of 2018, between now and the opening of the Star Wars expansion. I don't imagine it would take imagineers any longer to build the coaster and I feel like it would make a great midway checkpoint until the opening of Galaxy's Edge. I'm guessing winter simply because Disney released Tron: Legacy in theatres in the wintertime.

1:17 I'm really excited for the Tron coaster as it's clearly the headliner of what's clearly going to be a Tomorrowland overhaul. I think it'll be open around late 2019/early 2020. While I think Tron is exciting I gotta say I'm really excited for the Mickey ride, I think it's gonna become an instant classic and be the perfect headliner for the new Hollywood studios

I believe that it will open late 2020-early or mid 2021 as of they already are challenging the imagineers with all these renovations and addition from Epcot over haul to the two new land in Hollywood studios and the new gondolas so it will take some time and magic kingdom doesn't need as much help compared too Epcot and Hollywood studios. (just putting it out there)

1:16; I think its going to open in 2020, which is the year after Star Wars Land will be opened. In the coming years i am pretty sure Disney wants to kick off something brand new each spring of the following year leading up to the 50th anniversary. Like they did with Pandora and Toy Story Land next year!

I really hope it opens in 2021 for the 50th anniversary so that we can enjoy the openings of Galaxy's Edge, Toy Story Land, and other attractions without everything opening all at once. It's just so amazing that each park is getting the renovations they deserve!

1:16 I think the placement of the new TRON attraction is perfect! That walkway behind the Speedway that connects Tomorrowland and Storybook is highly underused, and now it will make itself more useful and hopefully alleviate some of the foot traffic elsewhere around the park.

Been wanting to ride the TRON cycles since it opened in Shanghai... this will be a lot closer to visit. Sign me up! :D

This is amazing news because of a number of reasons. 1: it takes pressure and lines off of Space Mountain. 2: it adds more of the futuristic look to the land which honestly need a a small makeover. 3: hopefully its a breakthrough for the tomorrowland curse/block and we start seeing more amazing developments for the land.

Like Jack said in a couple vids back and credit me as a source. Vekoma and Disney were probably in long talks and contract spending probably when Shanghai was being developed in which was a estimate guess of mine. Now this could be honestly a $450M budget for building the Tron Lightcycle coaster and would be wayyy cheaper to copy and paste to help reduce the costs. We are probably looking at honestly a time frame when Epcot's 40th anniversary for their Phase 2 projects that weren't announced today like Coca/Mexico pavilion, Inside Out, and the Spain and Brazilian pavilions. So I say around 2020 and that would put some tension on Universal in the heat of competition with Nintendo in Orlando, IMO.

Tron is underrated. High Science Fiction needs to make a comeback when the Superhero movies start to settle down a little bit. I am super geeked for the Tron coaster.

1:16 I think the tron light cycle coaster should open around late 2019 to early 2020.I think this would give it the right amount of time to go through its super over crowded phase but still be really popular on the 50th anniversary.

The good news is that it doesn't disrupt the views of Tomorrowland, a big cuboid building right next to Space Mountain would look ridiculous, this looks like it actually fits into the surroundings!

1:16 I just have a general comment that I've always loved this movie and I'm a huge fan of Bruce Boxleitner so now I'm excited to re-watch these movies with my kids so they can make a connection from the movie to the attraction. It was a great movie and it really doesn't date so today enjoyed by this generation as well.

1:16, I think they would wanna get it released near the time of a new era for Tron but it all depends on the time for it being built so maybe in 2020 or something like that so when Disney Expo comes around again in 2019 they will have some exciting news for people going ! Excited the Tron ride is going to Tomorrowland and that it's not replacing anything. God forbid they tore down Carousel of Progess. There would have been a uproar. I really believed Tron belonged in Epcot but it's a great addition and it fits perfectly with the iconic Space Mountain.

1:16 I think with it being the only announced new attraction for magic kingdom along with the new movie theatre on main street, I think it's likely 2021 would be the right time to open it to create the buzz around it, combined with the 50th anniversary with a spring time opening. how exciting!!

1:16 I think that the Tron ride will open at some point before Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens, because that way, once Galaxy's Edge opens, most people will be at Disney's Hollywood Studios and that could possibly give a lot more people the chance to ride the Tron ride (even though I think the Standby time for the Tron ride will still be around 200+ minutes even after Galaxy's Edge is open)

1:16 for the Hidden Mickey. I think they will open the Tron Coaster for Memorial Day Weekend 2021. I feel that this is the last project on their mind currently, and Disney has been opening attractions Memorial Day Weekend in multiple parks in 2017.

1:16 I love how the from coaster is coming. in all honesty I see the from light coaster opening in May of 2021 for it would be another huge reason for families to take a vacation and visit because it will be another new coaster and it'll be the 50th anniversary. I also love how they are starting to use some of the space from what I call the smoker trail that is another path that starts at the train station in fantasyland by barn stormer and goes all the way down to the space mountain gift shop. I don't see the speed way going away anytime soon because even though it's not that much of a popular attraction in the off season it is still very popular during the busier time if year

1:16 I'm not too big into the Tron franchise, but since they are trying to make a new movie, I think the ride would open up either a little while before the movie comes out or shortly after as this will bring more guests to the ride. I also think it's a great idea as Disney hasn't added much into the Tomorrowland area in a while & this gives each park new additions in the new few years so that one park won't be so full with guests coming to see new attractions, as there will be pretty much be new attractions everywhere.

I have a feeling that they're going to back up all the openings at Disney world to co-inside with the 50th. They're probably going to open Toy Story Land before to gain some attraction but then open Star Wars Land or Galaxy's Edge, the Tron coaster, the gondolas, the new Epcot pavilion and expansion, etc. all in a couple years before or the year of the 50th. This is how I've been viewing Disney World for a while, it's a very expensive stay (coming from Canada) so I will be waiting to go again until all of these expansions and improvements are done, and I have a feeling that a lot of people who can't easily go to Disney World (or Disneyland for that matter) are feeling the same way.

1:16 I'm so excited for both the gondola system and the Tron light coaster! I would think that they'd have it ready for the 50th anniversary. With all of the commotion surrounding plans for the 50th anniversary, that would only make sense and it fits perfectly with Walt's idea for Tomorrowland. As for the gondola system, I'm staying at Caribbean beach in late august for an entire week and got an awesome discount on my stay because the system and the resort already under construction. Several of the public spots (like one food court and gift shop areas) are actually closed for remodeling per an email I received from the resort. You bet I'll be looking for hints at how construction is going!

Hidden Mickey 1:17 I think it will open late 2019 or early 2020! The Tron Ride prediction is what I've been waiting to hear about all week. I am ecstatic for this roller coaster and even though I'm not really a fan of Tomorrowland Speedway, I am glad they plan on keeping it since it's a Magic Kingdom classic!

1:16! My theory is that in order to give the coaster its own time to shine, and to keep the park flow somewhat manageable, is that it will open sometime in Spring 2020. I'm thinking this time because 2019 will be the opening of Star Wars Land, and 2021 is the 50th Anniversary, so having only one huge event/opening per year should keep the guest flow within the parks and resorts manageable. And I'm thinking Spring because that seems to be the trend for when new things have been opening.

This will be a huge boost for the Magic Kingdom.
