I actually live here in Trona. Bought a house here June of 2023. That huge building is the old rec center. The last quake in 2019 pretty much decimatef the majority of businesses left as it was too expensive to renovate. Houses are actually selling around here. Town has a great community and very protective.

Trona is a nice clean little town. Between the two earthquakes that happened back to back and Covid, the town has lost population and businesses. However, it has very inexpensive housing with good city power, water that is good for bathing and cooking natural gas. I know someone who bought a nice, very livable house for $29K

FYI I lived in that town when there was 2000 people there the reason it’s a ghost town now is because they broke the union up at the plant back in the 70’s also that big building that was boarded up was Joshua hall there is a full size bowling alley below it

At one time Trona got all it's water from within the valley. There are springs up each of the major canyons in the Argus Range. There are still remnants of the old water system. You just gotta do a little hiking to get to them!

@@blackturtleshow I did some online research about why people moved away and it said one of the main reasons was because of water shortages. Also I know the history with the Owens River valley and how LA country really screwed up the environment when they rerouted all the runoff to the LA aqueduct. I assumed it was a similar situation, but my Internet source could be inaccurate, and I suppose I made a bit of assumption just from looking at how dry the landscape is around there.

Ridgecrest is only 25 minutes away from Trona. Not 45 minutes. The Shell gasoline station you photographed closed shortly after the earthquake. As for the mineral plant, majority of it is now automated & sadly not much of a need for humans to operate it. It's not a bad town & the locals have a lot of camaraderie amongst each other.

@@MeMe-cd1wy Thank you for the kind compliments. Yes there are a lot of abandoned properties within Trona. However it's not exactly a ghost town & when you get to know the residents within Trona, you won't find a nicer group of residents.

shell station has been closed for years owner was very nice he would keep restrooms open and clean for travelers. I asked him if he ever had problems, and he immediately produced a pistol. He told me no one bothers him. I thanked him for being so kind to people needing a bathroom. The Church is an amazing piece of architecture, there is the pinnacles to the south east where star trek planet of the apes was filmed. some cool side canyons going north homewood great basin really scenic when it's raining. Past valley wells and slate pass is ballarat and a number of blm cabins on both sides of the panamint valley .you can access death valley or go onto saline eureka valleys a true must for any off roader.

@MeMe-cd1wy

Trona has a sad story. Twin earthquakes of 7+ and federal and state government did nothing. San Bernardino county gave ice and water. Many people were instantly homeless. The falling down building you are see are the results of those earthquakes. People are poor, but the earthquakes made them homeless. These old homes were owned free and clear, but people did not have money for insurance. So many just walked away.

The video would be improved if it was less about you and your face and the interior of your car, and more about Trona, the vibe of the empty houses, the fantastic landscape, the majestic mountains, the pinnacles at sunrise. Look at the art in the little burger shack. Amazing watercolors by a local artist.

WOW Jack! You got just about everything wrong. Did you stop and talk to any of the long time residents? I lived and worked in Trona for 45yrs. My wife was born and raised there. We both made a damn good living there. We sent both our children to a university debt free. We retired debt free. We bought a house in a 55+ community that is much closer to our children DEBT FREE. Maybe you should do a little more research first before you go badmouthing someone’s community.

This is a response to Bill Gavin Newsome and people like him don’t care about anything or anyone other than their own special interests and or business that he or they are friendly to. People really need to stop and look at the leftist communist democrat party agenda better to understand what is really going. Why did President Carter shut down USA steel mills all across the USA in the late 1970’s? Because of what the democrat party was promoting at that time was global freezing and they claimed at that time that the steel mills were causing pollution that was going to cause global cooling and freezing. Kiser Steel in Fontana California was closed down supposedly due to the Global Freezing. But it has been running as a foreign business ever since.
