Saw Trooper in Regina Saskatchewan late 70's. Fortunately as an American I was raised on border. I was exposed to all the good old Canadian rock. Best rock is from Canada.
I lived in northern North Dakota and the only decent rock stations we could get were out of Winnipeg (well, CITI-FM was it) so we grew up with 25% Canadian rock :-)
Me too! I lived south of Buffalo NY in the 70s and 80s. There was some fantastic music coming out of Canada. I still remember listening to CHUM out of Toronto.
I was born and raised south of the border (USA). Love Canada, and spent most of my vacations growing up there. Canada gave the world Rush and Triumph. We are forever grateful.
You know.........I'm 59 years old and have listened to these guys all my life. It wasn't until a few years ago i realized what the song was actually is about, all i thought was raise a little hell because we are young and stupid lol. Now that i have listened to the words very carefully, this song is my number 1 motivational song. I tell my kids, I tell my wife, i tell my brother I'll even tell a stranger..........Hey man if something has you down, dont give up just crank this song up and listen to the words carefully. hopefully it will move you like it has moved me. Raise a little hell!
I just turned 18 recently, and have also only just been recently actually listening to the lyrics, not only does the music pump you up, but as you said, the lyrics are extremely inspiring
1978 Fort St John BC I was 16 and my first concert was Trooper playing in a local arena they had just released this song and its what they opened with and I was in heaven imagine what you heard hear but cranked up a few thousand watts to where the kick drum made your heart skip a beat as it should be🙂
That's freaking awesome. First time I ever heard them was the summer of 1980. I was 14. Loved them ever since. This one song summarizes life, in my opinion
There are parts of the vocals that, if I close my eyes, sounds a whole lot like Freddie Mercury. Kudos and Canadian RnR is criminally underrated in the States outside of the Big 8. Trooper deserves its place in the Hall, no doubt.
Those guys were amazing! 1977 I saw then in Lethbridge Alberta at the age of 15. I saw them again the following year for the Thick as Thieves tour, and they were great! It was their guitar player Brian Smith that made me decide that I was going to be a guitarist the rest of my life.
I didn't know Tommy Stewart at all. He was the eldest. Played soccer with Bob. He was good. Nice family. Father was Chief of Police of Vancouver. Ironically their house was burglarized a few days before they moved from Boundary Road at Moscrop. Jimmy and my sister Laura were the boy and girl best smile of the same year at high school. Tonight is my memory lane night.
The harmonies, clapping, and chord progression is so f insatiable. Even after all these years, I can listen to this over and over. It’s all I can do to wonder about why this is their only song that I know of.
Saw them with my friend Dennis at a bar called Red’s in Deadmonton’s big mall ❤ still got the stub 😭😂 sadly my boyfriend was stationed on some tour overseas : (
Thanks! I used the album audio but a lot of keyframing involved as Ra's cadence in the live performance didn't quite match the cadence in the studio version
My man apprenticed under Randy Bachman and got his first Engineering credit on the Orange album. He has worked with more Canadian bands over the year than I even knew there were that many lol. In the 16 months I was fortunate enough to have him in my life I don't think a single day went by that he didn't have a story or anecdote or fyi about Trooper. This song stuck with me all these years and today I can play every single Trooper song on drums, and sing every word. I go into my studio some nights wanting to be alone and I start belting out this song on a legendary drum kit that Neil Peart of Rush gave my man when he retired in 2015. I've been offered "10 figures" for the kit but memories are priceless. Not to mention I've been in every NHL Arena in the league and this song is played in every single arena, there's maybe 5 bands ever that hold that distinction
Words to live by.😎 Back when this was brand new, I was a Radio DJ at ASJS. I was green but wanted to be a good DJ. The one thing I knew, or heard often regarding Showbiz, was always leave them wanting more. So I closed the noon hour set with this song. The procedure in those days was after lunch the kids did Undisturbed Silent Sustained Reading, or USSR. It was meant to mellow everybody out after smoking pot all lunch hour, I mean, playing innocent children's games. Anyways, I get called to the Principals Office shortly after USSR starts. The Principal informs me my music was too Stimulating to the kids, and Teachers all over were complaining because the kids wouldn't mellow out. I was told to play less Stimulating Music, particularly at the end of the set. I of course promised to comply, which of course I totally didn't. This was the power of media. This was Rock and Roll. This was my calling. And this is The Song that Set My Soul on Fire 🔥. Raise A Little Hell 🤘😈🤘
In other words, if you're having trouble in in life, take resposibility for changing your own life rather than exPecting someone else to do it FOR YOU. Argent's "Hold Your Head Up" is another classic thst's always been in my own PERSONAL "rock n roll program rotation."
My cousins little girl was born today on Friday the 13th. He asked if she was going to be a slasher… I said “no… she was just born to raise a little hell”😂🎉
Love Trooper, but two members of a 70s rock band have to wear hats with all that big hair around them, well I guess hair is here for a good time, not a long time.
I remember hearing on a rock station. For some reason i couldn't resist the urge to give the car some gas 😂, the posted limit was 120kp/h I juste rose it up to 220, 😂 then dropped it after the song.
It was from “Whatever Turns You On” which was You Can’t Do That on Television’s attempt to go prime time. But it wasn’t successful so they just stuck with YCDTOT. The entire episode and this performance with the original audio is on RU-vid.
@@b_uppy Depends on where you lived. Didn't make much inroads into the US but had a string of hits in Canada, like "We're Here For A Good Time", "The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car", "General Hand Grenade", "3 Dressed Up as a 9", "Janine", "Two For The Show", "Oh Pretty Lady", "Santa Maria", "Boy With A Beat" and "Thin White Line".
