Yup, I’m not impressed by those who show their “trophy” buck that was taken in private land where they’re fed like cattle, and to top it off are just sitting all for a couple of hours in blinds…
That is probably the nicest Columbia Blacktail I have ever seen. If you have ever hunted Blacktails, you know that is a 1 in 10,000 kind of a buck. I would say that is one of the finest specimens of a buck for any deer species that I have ever seen. I would liken that buck to the "Chadwick Ram" in its relative trophy class to its species.
Congratulations those are great bucks, and you guys have a great spot. Our spot got run over with people when we haven't seen a sole in years because of the fires in 20. We packed 1 tent big enough for 4 guys with a wood stove inside that weighs less than 1 of your tents. I'll try to up load some pictures of our set up so you can check it out. Losing 2 of the tents leaves room for more comfort items. Great job guys
Congratulations!!! Hunting in California is a feat buy itself!!! Finding that buck is priceless… but one question Where in the Blazing hell did it rain in California
Appreciate that! California is definitely challenging, but it has some great opportunities for those willing to put it the work. You know all about that ✌
Congratulations bro. Got to say I really like the fact that you took the time to make a good Shot. By watching your past videos I know you and your buddy are more than capable of doing that. Congratulations again and keep up the good videos.
Good stuff gents. I’m liking the content, subbed! My first time hunting this year, went with an experienced hunter buddy of mine to d3-d5 and it was super tough. Haven’t got a deer yet but gonna try one last time next week before season ends
Nice I’m all tagged out 5x4 n a 3x3 not as wide as that tho. My sister got a major 5x5 with a 24” spread at the widest tip biggest black tail I’ve seen yet. All public land hunt also. I will never do no private or pay someone to hunt I don’t believe in that crap gotta work hard for it and do it yourself always solo when I’m doing it also. That’s the way I enjoy and love it all the hard work by myself.
Nice bucks guys, congratulations.Hoping next years we don't get any fires like we've had, getting tired of the fire closures that affected B zone the last few years.
Just found the channel - growing interest in hunting and in CA. Gotta say - 535yds…WHAT A SHOT! That was perfect! And slow mo was SWEET! Congrats and well done!
@@ryan6937 they’re just factory loads believe it or not. The rifle I’m shooting really eats them well, even better than most hand loads. The scope is an Arken Optics SH4 Gen 2 I highly recommend.
If CA wasn't the way it is... I would've probably never left. People talk shit about the deer hunting there. I'm now in Montana, and while we do have better success percentages and larger deer which is to be expected since CA mule deer, as an example, is the smallest subspecies. The hunting in CA is better in my opinion. Better access for us who can't pack in, more deer spotted per day, no grizzlies to worry about, i just like hunting my i hunted with tons of successful trips with family and friends. I did spent 15 years learning and understanding the zone I hunted, the herd and their patterns. Now, because I can't carry a pack nor hike far due to back surgeries and a couple knee injuries, Montana isn't the best where I am. Very limited access to good areas because they lock the gates the week before opener.
I’m curious, you said your rain gear was soaked through, which I see was Kuiu. Was your soaked tent floor a Kuiu tent too? Congrats on that beautiful buck. I had to turn in my X7A tag with all the forest closures.
None of the tents are Kuiu. The biggest culprit with the leaky tents was the wind... it kept blowing the rain fly around and dropping water through the mesh underneath. Next we will string up a tarp to cover the tents. There are different classifications of rain gear from Kuiu - some gear handles light rain, other gear is designed for heavy sustained rains.
Y’all gave me a little inspiration to kill a big one and I got a 19 inch real think 15 inch tall 4 point lol huge body about killed me packing him out a half mile up hill lol it sucked but very awesome
You guys ever want a tag along I got a long range 6.5 prc don’t have a group to go hunt with in the high country but would love to I want to hunt to trinity alps here this next year since all around it burned
I know I’m a little late to this video but a comment back would be nice. I shoot a 7mm rem mag as well and I’m trying to learn MOA as much as I can before this deer season, how much did you adjust your turret on that shot assuming they were 1/4 moa a click? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I think I’m getting the hang of it but cross reference is always good
It’s hard to remember exactly, but somewhere in the ballpark if 7.25 MOA Keep in mind, you’ll have a different adjustment if you have a different bullet, if the temp is different, or your at a different elevation. All of those factors are critical at rages beyond 500, not to mention your zero yardage and elevation. Best of luck!
CACCIA Outdoors thanks so much for the reply man, that’s about what I estimated in my head for my bullet type and weight. Hoping to make a little chart like yours for my gun as well. Good luck this season!
@@jacobcaras3209 hey man if your gonna be shooting past 300 I’d invest in a ballistic app that links with a weather meter/ wind meter then input the data of your load, scope height ,twist rate of your rifle and a good range finder then go shoot and confirm your data and make adjustments accordingly. Or you could get a range finder that you put your ballistic data in and run a separate wind meter it cost more but it works a lot faster.
Still a beautiful state i dont care about politics or other peoples views complaining about it doesnt change anything People will continue to be manipulated by Politicians and the government and vote themselves into a hole It does not matter where they are from sooner or later North Carolina will end up like California just give it about 20 years and if you say that it wont maybe you need to take a history lesson and Broaden your knowledge Instead of being stuck in a Boomer mindset
@MrZachgonz I lived in N. Ca. for 20 years. I left in 1998 because I couldn't stand the direction it was going. Once you leave only then can you truly appreciate how bad it is, even in the northern part of the state. You all live under the same rules and laws.
Let's see, how many fires in all B zones alone last year? August Fire alone was over 1 million acres. No secrets shared. Nice bucks boys. Diggin' the videos and upping the ante on bucks and vid quality.
It really depends on where we’re hunting. Every spot is different. Base camp (or the truck) may be several miles away, but we usually like to set up our spike camp within a mile of where we plan to glass/hunt.
@@CacciaOutdoors thanks for the reply and info. Been primarily a road hunter for the last 5 years. Getting in the backcountry next weekend! Keep up the videos!
@@jamesabreu613 different abilities elicit different outcomes. I’m sure it would be unethical for a carpenter to perform brain surgery too, but to a trained brain surgeon, it’s just another day at the office.
Well, everyone has their own skill set and capabilities. We would definitely not take any shots outside ours. If you watched closely you’ll notice that buck was dead before he hit the ground. If you aren’t comfortable shooting at 500 I would highly advise you to hold off. For me, it’s not an issue. Also the topography in this location made getting closer almost impossibility without blowing that buck out.
He claims to "hunt" this animal over a bait pile with every technological advantage that exists today. Pay someone to build that rifle, sight it in, and build the dope card. Anyone can hire this "hunt". Look at the scope rings on that rifle lol. You cant even order quality hunting ammo in that skid mark state. What a joke.
Always a hater! Mad because you can’t get one like this from your pick up while road hunting 😂 who would bate a deer and shoot it from 500+yds?? Stay 🧂
Amazing buck.Who cares about politics or the state of the state of California. I chase bucks all over CA and it does not matter where you are when you are out in it. Get out and hunt.
