You guys need to explain some things to me; Why is Diana of Themyscira’s stunt double called Pudgey? & Why is the guy fresh out of a toothpaste commercial called Spartan?
I knew this was gonna be a great reaction when Pudgey was just losing it during the opening "previews". 😂 A surprising number of younger reactors don't even get the opening. *cough* Spartan *cough* 😉
really messed up thing is this is only one of the movies RDJ did this in he does it in another movie for Jamie Foxx called "All-Star Weekend" but it's been shelved because of the whole blackface thing
@@stefanforrer2573 I haven't watched any new Star Trek but as far as I've heard the only really horrible stuff has been most of Picard. Most of the other shows I've heard pretty good things about
This movie confused spartan so much, my man didn't even get a chance to laugh. He was just trying to figure out what was happening. Watch it again buddy
@@handohansolo8866 It doesn't matter how good an actor he is. It's just an exercise in basic facial recognition. *It's fucking Robert Downey Jr.* He's just got paint on his face.
Probably one of the best comedys of all time. And the best critical commentary of Hollywood ever done in a movie. RDJ should have gotten an Oscar for this (yes he was nominated)..he somehow managed to play a black guy in such a way that everybody finds it hillarious..what a genious actor. And yes those movie trailers from the start actually played as movie trailers in the cinema...
The only people who claim RDJ is offensive in this movie are people with weird last names that get mad if you call them white. I have yet to find a black person that is offended at RDJ pretending in this movie.
I watch this movie reaction among the reaction crowd a lot just to see how fast they clock Tom Cruise. I'd like to say that when I saw it in theaters I caught on fast. Nope. It wasn't until he was dancing in the credits and his name came up that I realized it. Cruise has an untapped side for humor, and we as an audience for three decades were denied that aspect of his skills. He's quite good at being funny, and aside from his one role momentarily in Austin Powers, we never get to see him in a comedy. Robbed.
The more I observe people NOT recognizing Robert Downey Junior and Tom Cruise in this movie, the more I am convinced that Clark Kent's disguise is actually valid. 😂😂😂
No kidding. I mean, to me it's obvious it's them from the start, especially Tom Cruise. His actual face isn't changed much and he speaks as he does IRL. Downy Jr at least did a different voice.
@@TReynard11 I remember watching this in theaters and EVERYONE was blown away it was Cruise at the end. I think it's just because no one ever expected Cruise (especially at that point in his career) to do a role like this. It was so unusual for him that people couldn't even process it in real time and recognize him.
Pudgey laughing through the "trailers" while Spartan stares in confusion trying to figure out what the hell is going on was a PERFECT follow-up to "I wonder whos humor this is gonna tickle" 😂😂
You have to appreciate Kirk's commitment. He sees through most of the stuffs going on pretty quickly and is also the first to get that Damian is really dead, but he still can't warn folks properly because he's still staying in character.
That's most people I've noticed, an authentic Australian accent seems to be way harder for most people to pull off. They just end up sounding British lol
@@KrazzeeKaneKirk was supposed to be Irish, but RDJ asked to do it as an Aussie because he had that accent ready after Natural Born Killers. It's just as ridiculous there.
@@highlander31527 Robert Downey Jr was born in Manhatten, New York City, New York, USA. He's an American actor. In Tropic Thunder, he plays an Australian actor named Kirk Lazerus who is playing an African-American soldier named Lincoln Osiris.
If you guys haven't seen "Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. That's where the "Get to the Chopper" line is from. Also the meme with the muscular arms shaking hands.
Tom Cruise’s voice is the give away. It was nagging me until the Apple Pie song. The reason it could put RDJ into blackface was because the movie was funny, not because it was made in 2008. Y’all have been brainwashed by 3rd rate comedians upset they can’t say the N-word because they think being edgy will make them funny. You can make movies with over the line content IF THE MOVIE IS FUNNY. If it’s not, you failed and deserve the criticism for being offensive or for going too far. That’s the risk you take and part of raking that risk is not being a crybaby when you get criticized.
This is not actually true. Many studios have policies in place now that would prevent a movie like this getting made. “You couldn’t make xyz movie today” doesn’t come from audiences, it comes from Hollywood itself.
Its why Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia can do comedy like this. Because they're actually making fun of the ignorance (like when they did black face).
@@tee4222 I fully admit that when I saw this in theaters, I had no idea it was Tom Cruise playing Les!! I knew the voice but I couldn’t place it and then the end credits rolled and everyone lost it! 🤣🤣
Spartan not being able to let loose and enjoy a comedy for being funny has been noted. Pudgey giggling is pure glory. I hope Spartan realizes how lucky he is to have a woman that can laugh and enjoy herself at silly stuff like this movie. They're quite rare.
Yes kids these days should come out of the box already having watched every sitcom from when their parents were kids so they can recognize the references to your satisfaction 🙄🙄🙄
@@pxpq I was waiting on it!! But realized that sense they didn't know "Neverending Story" song they most likely don't know "The Jeffersons" either. Which is cool. But would've really landed had they known it and the context of the show. Lol
@@iamthepope9167 What are you talking about i'm the same age as they are, that bit is not about Jefferson's alone, it was about Australia, which is the country the reactors are from...
YES!!! Pudgey without a doubt has an old school sense of humor, and it's becoming very hard to find👍👍. Also, I'm really glad she gave Ben Stiller credit for his role, he doesn't get enough. Of all the reactions I've seen maybe a couple reactors gave him the credit he deserves.
"I'm The Dude, Playing A Dude, Disguised As Another Dude" This line still makes me laugh ever time ave after seeing it like 100times by now (between my watches and the reactions I watch). "I'm a rooster illusion" also gets me. Ans every-time Tom Cruise was on screen.
Nah they all were amazing. RDJ just killed it and will be the only white guy ever getting green light from black people to black face ever! That's sadly the only controversy that stuck, while Tropüic Thunder took a shit on almost every Hollywood controversy.
Too busy over thinking the comedy. Knowing you're on camera and will be judged for your reaction to it probably didn't help. Or I'm being overly generous and he's dense. Who knows.
Depends what year you watched this movie. I seen it in the cinema and never realised until the end. Nobody seen a comedy cameo coming from cruise back then.
Lol this movie could easily be made today, it's not some woke agenda or cancel culture that would prevent it at least. The issue is that no one makes theatrical comedies anymore. Once MCU and other franchises started dominating the box office that is. Now it's all streaming
This is a parody of Hollywood. And references platoon, apocalypse now, the deer hunter, we were soldiers, mission impossible, Indiana jones, nutty professor, full metal jacket, saving private Ryan.
And even then he was questioning it this dude can't grasp a simple concept it happens a lot actually not allowing him to fully appreciate many movies they watch, unfortunately.
Tom Cruise is fantastic in this. The character of Les was based on his suggestions. For example, he insisted on having the large hands. He wanted to be as unrecognizable as he could. All the cast are great tbh, especially Stiller and RDJ. I think Pudgey got the humor of this film more 🙂 And yes, this film would NEVER be made today. RDJ in blackface today??? No chance. Yet he was nominated for an OSCAR for his performance in this. There was no outcry about it. Everyone loved it.
A GOLD movie look at Ben Stiller's old movies and I mean in all of them but especially in this one, he has always been in shape you can't tell because the guy is a master of showmanship and most of the time you are seeing his face and gestures but wow he has more muscle than half the cast of the avengers
Damn these guys are slow on seeing things in this movie, so many great things what was missed😂 And worst of all, they literally didn’t show the best scene in the whole goddamn movie just to play it save
Let me say ,besides that you are entertaining to watch, it is REALLY refreshing that you dont beep out the cuss words from your youtube edits. really fucking refreshing :D
One thing people miss in this a lot: Tugg's agent ACCEPTED the deal from Les Grossman, got the G5 airplane.... and then flew it to go rescue him. That's why he runs out of nowhere (he presumably landed it nearby), then runs back into the woods (back to his airplane), and is then shown flying in the jet (he wouldn't have gotten it). I think it's a great subtle touch in this film.
I feel like the only part Spartan really got a good laugh out of was when Ben threw the kid off the bridge. Rather telling about his sense of humor. Geez! 😂
[48:50] "A nutless monkey could do your job." Pudgey to Spartan after every video. [51:27] "Hugh Jackman as the Joker..." Spartan proves Pudgey right a minute and a half later.
Well, here are some iconic comedies for your must watch list in non particular order : The Naked Gun , Airplane! , Caddyshack, Planes trains and automobiles, Blazing Saddles, There is something about Mary, The pink panther (1963 version), The Hangover, Groundhog day, Shaun of the dead, See no evil hear no evil, Bad Santa, Superbad, School of Rock, Three Amigos, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, Top Secret, Hot Shots...... any of these for starters should be awesome
RDJ playing the black man is part of the joke. They are making fun of actors, pretending to "take the role so seriously". The entire movie is one giant Troll on acting and actors really.
Hey Spartan and Pudgey, I'm SO glad you both watched this! ---------- Tom Cruise's best character by far. Him dancing at the end is epic. --------- Gotta give props to Robert Downey Jr. as well. --------- AS a black man I have no problem with equal opportunity laughter. Folks need to get over themselves and give the PC train a rest.
