While at the @AtlBotanicalGarden, we toured the Orchid Conservatory with Becky Brinkman. Though we've covered alpine plants before on this channel-this is the first time we're seeing a world class exhibit of tropical montane orchids.
In the meantime, check out my new podcast: Bad Seeds - www.radio.net/podcast/bad-seeds

That Heliamphora display is ridiculously impressive. This room was so well curated and cared for. While not the largest this is one of the most detailed spaces I've seen.

One of my top five favorite places. Watching your video puts me right back there, I know all those little corners. Can’t believe you didn’t drool over the ceratostema rauhii, 😂 but Ms. Brinkmanship finally gave me a name for that huge anthurium, the Giganteum, another stunner.😍

Gastrochilus pseudocalcilaris a new orchid species was discovered during floristic surveys in my area of Yingyushang Mountain, Longleng district, Nagaland, India in April 2022. Orchids are hypnotic I should say. It brings calmness, joy and peace as we enjoy its beauty.

Mrs. Brinkman also wrote a blog, it's called: the Orchid column there you can find interesting information about the orchids they grow and stuff they do behind the scene. Unfortunately Mrs Brinkman stopped writing on the blog a couple of years ago😢. Hopefully she can post new information on the blog again soon (hint). Hopefully I'll go to America anytime soon and see al that splendour for my self! Greetings from the Netherlands!

Hey !. What a place to meditate in. Im fully applying the law of attraction these days " The most powerful law in the universe. ". Training to be an earth mover, just finishing study to be an operator, i have 3 test coming up. Lavender house, ive turned into a berry and herb garden, its thriving. You look beautiful as always, loving the videos. x. Rats best friend is mesh and metal cable ties, you build a mesh bait bag and then put that in a big mesh cage, job done, make it narrow and long. They have tested me to my limits but ive also grown to love them and see them as company.

I enjoy googeling each of the plant names that appear on the video. I just pause the video from time to time, read about the plant and continue watching. The botanical garden tour debunks the myth that the tropics is a hot and humid environment year round. This misconception accompanies many people who buy plants and fail to grow them because they don't get the conditions right. I used to think so in the distant past, until I began visiting tropical greenhouses and witnessed the effects of the evaporative cooling radiators. The air was substantially cooler than the outside (and I live in a hot country) and were heavily shaded, yet they were thriving. Unfortunately, those coolers are too big and expensive for the private grower...

Thank you so much. That was great. I will never make it to the alpine regions of Latin America and I will probably never even make it to Atlanta, so this was a real treat for me. I loved your question about micropropagation, having just learned that tissue culture results in what would be called inbreeding in animals. Keep up the good work!

To add to the question 24 minuites in, there's a term called bottleneck, which describes how the gene pool of a species reduces when the population declines. Even if a species is propagated by seed unfortunately.

Conserving rare species in specialist botanical gardens is very worthy; however, a species cannot be truely conserved unless specialist pollinators are identified and also somehow conserved. Best to assure conservation in natural areas.
