Prayers, and best of wishes from Tornado Alley. For the people effected by this remember, tornadoes may be smaller than hurricanes, but they are much stronger, move much faster, and if you're in their path they are much more dangerous. If you are in a tornado warning, go to your basement. If you don't have a basement, go to a room in the center of the lowest floor, preferably a closet or a tub in a bathroom. Cover yourself with mattresses, pillows, blankets, and anything else that can protect you from debris. Wear a good pair of walking shoes or work boots. If you have one wear a helmet (it doesn't matter what kind). Once in shelter and covered, get as close to the floor as physically possible (laying perfectly flat is ideal) and face the ground. Cover the back of your neck with your arms. Do not leave shelter until the all-clear is issued as just because the sirens stop sounding, it seems calm, or it seems like the storm has passed , none of those things mean its safe yet. Things you will want to have with you include, emergency money, a flashlight, a radio to listen for the all-clear (preferably a weather radio), some sort of legal identification (like a driver's license), and any important medications you can't go without for an extended period (like insulin).
Fair warning from tornado alley, a watch can become a warning at any moment, and even if the weather doesn't look or seem bad, there can still be a tornado coming. Be prepared to take shelter at any time. Edit: It just occurred to me, that you're in Dixie Alley, so you already know that.
Thank you, NOAA, for the hurricane tracking and warnings for everywhere from Florida to North Carolina and beyond. I don't know what we'd do if Trump got in and got rid of you. No more hurricane warnings. No more tornado warnings. No more blizzard warnings. People would die.
You can't always see tornadoes. They can be especially hard to see in heavy rain. Additionally they blend in perfectly with the darkness at night. Don't wait till you see or hear the tornado, because it might be too late by the time that you do.
