High winds, rain and scattered flooding battered South Florida on Sunday and Monday as Tropical Storm Eta crept along southern Florida.
Cars were stuck in flooded streets in Miami's business center and tens of thousands of households were without power.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued hurricane and storm surge warnings for the Florida Keys and Florida Bay.
The storm is expected to produce dangerous storm surge, flash floods and strong winds over portions of Cuba, Florida, and the Florida Keys.
At midnight local time, Eta was located about 30 miles (45 km) east-northeast of Marathon, Florida and packing maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (100 km/h).
One of the fiercest storms to hit Central America in years, Eta caused heavy flooding and mudslides in Central America, where at least 150 people have died or are still missing.
