Usually a cruise ship will sail out away from a hurricane or tropical storm… but sometimes you can’t. This is what happened to us during Tropical Storm Ophelia while we were sailing on Norwegian Sky.
We were off the coast of Massachusetts (on a New England/Canada cruise) and supposed to visit Martha’s Vineyard… but our port was canceled because the storm hit!!

Lol yes ? I didn't enjoy it...that was a hurricane though, the top decks closed and flooding in the dining areas. I said I'd never try saving a few bucks by going in the fall again lol

I'm the same way, I got off Celebrity Equinox a month ago and the only thing that was disappointed was the ocean was a sheet of glass the entire time... haha

I love hurricane conditions on a large vessels! Definitely want to avoid those conditions for the entire trip, but a couple days of rocking and rolling is a blast

I know you go to Boston every so often. You can get a ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard and back. That is what I did a few years ago when I went to Boston. It was well worth it.

Cruising in a storm is just another cruise experience to "collect." Just have to make the best of it! Loved your attitude. We had two days like this on NCL Prima Northern Europe cruise. Missed two ports. Oh well, sad for few minutes, then move on. Jason, thanks for reminding us the value of submitting comments. I didn't realize this is another way to show support for our favorite vloggers!!

Jason you brought up a good point about Cagney's steaks. They used to be seasoned till around 10 years ago then they stopped. Cagneys used to have the best seasoned steaks I've ever had. While the quality is still there I miss the seasoning they had.

We had similar seas in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand in January. Missed a port as well. Enjoy!

I love a good storm, we ran into one last year and also missed a port day. We had people getting sick everywhere, poor crew were kept busy until the barf bags were put out. Luckily, our insurance paid out the fees for the missed port. 😊

Such a shame you had to miss Martha's Vineyard, a true New England gem. Been on many cruises thru hurricanes, seen the gift shops with duct tape holding things on the shelves; people swaying when they walk! Honestly I'd rather be on a cruise with bad weather than no cruise for sure, can always find indoor activities like you two do! Dinner looked nice, that chocolate cake YIKES yumo, looks like two scoops of vanilla could have done the trick. Jason is a hoot, you two level each other out for sure! Looking forward to a Boston video, my home town!

The dancing leaves a lot to be desired! I was on a cruise alongside Boston harbour on 7 September 2001 - 2 days before 9/11. It was peaceful and tranquil. Little did we know about what would happen 2 days later. I saw the explosion and fireball at the Pentagon from Arlington Cemetery. Will never forget it.

We were in hurricane/tropical storm Joaquin a few years back. 100+ winds and 16' seas They completely closed the decks down,... no going outside at all We spent a lot of time playing board games and dominoes with our friends....and of course drinking The ship was rocking and rolling for sure

We had bad weather on a scheduled sea day and unfortunately the Spinnaker was booked all day with several private functions. It caused everyone to be crammed into the other indoor areas.

Weather on a ship can be fun to be sure; saw a guy walking from one side of the lido deck to the other carrying a full beer in a glass. By the time he got to the other side, he had about a shots worth left. Too funny! 😂 Wind was whipping!

You guys have such a great attitude! Good to see people being pleasant in unexpected changes. I like storms at sea, was in one years ago where the stuff fell off the shelves in the gift shop and at dinner we had to hold onto our glasses so they didn’t slide off the tables. It was quite an adventure!

Absolutely loved this vlog. I had forgotten about a storm my husband and I went through on a cruise back in 2015. There’s just something about watching a storm that is so exciting. Had totally forgotten about enjoying the hot tub during the storm and walking to dinner sideways because of the storm surge. As long as no one gets hurt, it is an amazing experience. Funny how memories come back just like that, a couple I was in the hot tub with was from Iowa. We are starting to cruise again, but DH doesn’t like it so looks like I’ll be doing solos. Two are planned for 2024. I’ll have to contact you for my next one in 2025. This is hard work planning all by myself.

I understand the disappointment with the loss of your Martha's Vineyard port. We were on a Canada & New England 13-day cruise on Princess in 2019 (from Quebec City to Ft Lauderdale) and my most looked forward to port was Newport, Rhode Island and the Captain decided to go around it because of gale force winds. He was keeping us safe but I was so disappointed. :( Still we were on a cruise so that's okay.

Love rough weather on board a ship as the restaurants are often very quiet, except on board a ferry and can't dock and just steaming back and forth for 8 or more hours and a delivery has to be made on time.

What a sea day! I probably would have been like Jason in the hot tub. "Water is water" you're going to be wet anyway 😂. I've found Cagney's lately can be hit or miss. Make the best of the day if you cant get into a port. You're both so fun to watch. Thank you ❤❤

We boarded the Emerald Princess in NYC just as Ophelia came in. They actually anchored us in the harbor just past Lady Liberty overnight. We were told we would miss Newport the next day, and the sea that day was intense! That fog {and the horns} scared me more than the waves/movement. Hubby was horribly seasick, which never happens. I think I will stick with cruising in non-hurricane season 😂

We sailed around hurricane Noel a few years back. 28-30 ft seas for a couple days. It was fun.

I would have spent the day in cabin or library reading! A rainy day at sea for me is awesome. I always get the crabcake at Cagneys too. Then onion soup, the Ribeye, mushrooms, mashed taters, raspberry creme brulee yum. We always eat at Cagneys twice. Only disappointment we ever had was the Tomahawk. Wasnt worth the up charge. Well done outer portion, very rare at the bone but, that cant be helped!!! Nothing against Cagneys, you cant fast grill a steak that size without that happening. Smoking is a better option. Cant wait to see the Portland video! We are Mainers❤

The NCL Sky did pretty good for rocking considering its small size. In July on NCL Star to Iceland and Greenland, our ship had to be “rescued “ by an icebreaker freighter due to lots of sea ice AND icebergs. It was quite an experience, but we missed 3 of the 4 ports in Greenland. 😢

Eek that was a rough journey to Boston brings back memories of school cruise 1979 i. did to the Baltic sea area We had Gale force 9 nearly 10 that was very scary . Have a Good week 🥰

So sorry this happened on your trip but so happy you shared the experience. I am wanting to book another cruise next July and we are thinking we want to do St Thomas, martin that whole area out of Florida but say possibility of storms in July was wondering what that may be like. You made the best of it always enjoy and appreciate you both!! Thought that cake was huge!! Oh and another thank you for everything Alaska turned out wonderful tempted in going again!! We had deck 4 closed on the Disney Wonder in Alaska for a storm.. last trip of the season.. big swells.. stuff was crashing when it started.. but everyone was safe.

Oh wow! I was under the impression the Disney itinerary meant smoother sailing just due to missing the Pacific Coast. I guess with any storm brewing it doesn't matter....hope you all had fun regardless, love a DC!

@@MJ-gj6mj it did calm down.. I think the storm hit more when we were at Sitka which has no protection.. so from there to Ketchikan it was really rocking. I think the staff were surprised also by how strong the storm was.. which explains a bit of the crashing sounds of plates falling.. or stuff at the entrance to tritons rolling and hitting the other wall. But first time for us to have a storm on our Alaska trip.. we still had fun and didnt let the storm bring us down.

I cruised during Hurricane Sandy. YIKES. 😅. The captain could not get away from the storm. Three days trying to outrun the hurricane. Still had a great time.

When you book way in advance it’s just a guessing game. The east coast had an unusual amount of storms this year.

I booked two cruises back to back and I watch international weather. One cruise I did January we missed storms so I know next year there will be storms but being ex air crew I always go to muster stations and look at all the equipment One never knows yet I’m mentally prepared Just add margaritas 😂

Went to Alaska in September on NLC. Terrible experience food was terrible and half the ship came down with Covid including me. I am happy that things are better for other cruisers Never again.
