Another great troubleshooting video Regarding flakey light sockets, this is what I do when I am in the process of restoring an old EM I put a drop or two of light oil on the insulator near the bottom of the socket Within 24 hours the insulator swells up a little and it make great contact Been doing this for a long time with great results Haven’t replaced a socket in years Keep up the good work !!!
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 5 лет назад
Interesting... I'd be afraid it would conduct and short out to the other contact, i'll have to look at one to understand it a little better but that sounds like a great idea!

Never had a problem with a short If I was going to replace the socket, I figured I had nothing to lose by doing this Most of the time the barrel of the socket is loose. You can spin it around After I put the oil on the insulator I twist the barrel a little to work the oil in 24 hours later things tighten up and good connection is made When I restore a machine I have the playfield on a rotisserie I flip it over and make it a practice to do this to every lamp socket wether it needs it or not Been getting excellent results Never a short

Fun looking game, and great video as always. 😁 It's always interesting seeing how you track down faults. I'm getting my first EM soon. Hopefully these might help and when things inevitably go wrong.
@LyonsArcade

It can always be found, even if you have to start all over again and rewire the whole cabinet, it can be tracked down.

+Joe's Classic Video Games Can you do a video on removing playfield components, cleaning and waxing (please do a demonstration) and then putting components back? EM pin would be fire!

We like that we can get them very inexpensively and are pretty much the only people near here that will work on them, it's fun resurrecting one!

Dang, this thing was a mess before you fixed it. So many little issues to sort out.
@LyonsArcade

Unfortunately a lot of them are like that, takes a ton of time to get one doing what it's supposed to... just little stuff everywhere that's problematic.

Excellent video! I have a Gottlieb 2 player 1969 Airplane Machine. Looks Identical to your college queens 4 player. I have repaired a few items, but still have a problem with the score unit. I get a loud buzz on ball 2 only. Keeps buzzing until ball goes down, and 3rd ball pops up. Anything you could help me with? Thanks!
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 4 года назад
Steve I don't have the schematics here with me but if I remember correctly each ball as it starts turns on a different relay, to change the scoring. So whatever relay turns on for ball 2 must be dirty or the switches are adjusted too loose. If you open it up and start the game, then get to ball two, look and see which relay pulls in on ball two (it's probably on the long bank of relays on the left side of the bottom of the game), and see if that sounds like the relay that's buzzing. If the plate that pulls in next to the relay is rusted it will do that, and if the spring is too tight it will buzz too.

@@LyonsArcade Thank you for the reply! The playing field on the machine in this video and the relays on the bottom of machine looks identical to mine. I will look, but you mentioned in this video that the bottom bank of relays on left, and 1st relay toward the front of machine was the ball 2 relay. I did notice that relay had the contacts on the outside of the bar that pulls the contacts in. All the rest of the relays have the contacts on the inside of the bar. That sounds like the problem. the contacts would be closed all the time I believe. Will let you know. Thank you again!!

Follow up for Joe. Ok, just as I thought, the contacts were on the wrong side of the bar that pulls the contacts open. Was holding the contacts closed all the time. Adjusted the contacts and that took care of other problems I had. Shows ball 2 on first and second ball, then sequence is correct on rest of balls. Just bought this machine a couple weeks ago. Still has a couple issues, but getting closer thanks to you!! Thank you again!!!

Don't sweat it, I get about 10 comments per video about how shitty I am at playing pinball, I'm just going to stop filming me playing because it doesn't really help anybody out and I don't really need the negativity from everybody.

@@LyonsArcade 😂come on, I was just joking. I mean, don't mind if you don't play as a champion, the important thing is to show us people how the game just plays!

Can anyone help me. I have a Sure Shot and when you turn it on it just makes that da da da....da da da....and that rotary thing just keeps spinning. Even when the balls in its home. I checked the ball sensor and for broken parts on that rotery thing but nothing. Do you know what I mean? You know when you first turn on the machine it makes that noise until the new ball kicks out and then it stops. Mine doesn't stop. I have to shut it off because I am scared the motor will burn out. Tried everything.
