@@ShaneWelcher I started a new position last year requiring the use of virtual machines (VMWare Workstation Pro). I never had to concern myself too much with Ethernet networking, beyond setting the IP address on my computer to get online with a PLC or Panelview, until now. I still struggle with getting online at times. I'll look through your videos, perhaps you might recommend a starting point to understanding network architecture?
@@timcombs7646 I have a few videos on VMware, however I have made any on network adapter setups because it can get very detailed very quickly for someone to understand. Hi Shane I have RSLinx that shows my PLC in RSWho , But the program doesn't show it when I try to connect I'm using Studio 5000 v 32.0 . 1756-ENBT/A and I can see it. RSLinx Classic Lite 4.21
Meaning...you can setup an RSLinx driver & browse it then it does show the PLC processor but from Studio 5000, you are unable to download. Is that correct? If so then make sure you are browsing the correct RSlinx driver from Studio 5000 then check the status of the Upload, download, go online buttons. If they are greyed out then save the Studio 5000 program to a safe location so you can find it then close Studio 5000 then open the saved file & try to use the WhoActive comms in Studio 5000. @@ShaneWelcher Well I think it did the trick I was on a work PC so I was off for the weekend, but when I tried it Monday afternoon it worked I could see my PLC in RSlink, and in Studio 5000 You are the man. Not I need your step by step class on Studio 5000, and Panleview, But thanks 👍

Hi Shane, I have a question for you, maybe you know. I have an older laptop with: win 7/64/SP1; 1756-L61/B with few I/O modules on 7slot chassis, and rslogix5000 v19 and 19.11 firmware. No issues, rslogix was working fine until I formatted the drive, new clean win .RSlinx classic/gateway is fine --I see all devices in there connected and communicating, I can go online, upload, download. Problem is I cannot add the modules back in the I/O config when I create a new project. I can only add the processor and go online/rem run but that's it. In the I/O tree my New Module option is greyed out, as well the logic instructions menu. Funny thing is if I open an older acd that i saved before on a stick I can download and go online and run the program with the correct modules. There is no security , and even security option is greyed out. No idea what happened. Thank you!
Sounds like you bought an old computer from Ebay. I wouldn't recommend that, there are often problems with those. Only buy something from a trusted source. I provide a VM in my course for training.
@@ShaneWelcher Thanks for reply. I fixed the problem. I had an "incomplete" version of RSlogix , with like a view license . Lucky I found a "full " V20 :) ....And no, the laptop was mine. I would buy a license than to buy/pay $800 on a shady ebay laptop. Problem is most of the time rockwell won't give you a license if you don't have a company registered with them. ...so we have to find other ways around to make the software to work.
