Hi. You contacted my Cousin Greg Davis for details on this story and I really appreciate it. We grew up hearing this story and every time going to the graveyard growing up we would be reminded of what happened. Greg played this video at a family gathering tonight and brought back a bunch of memories in our family. Thank you so much.
@TheAppalachianStoryteller
@TheAppalachianStoryteller 7 месяцев назад
Thank you! Yes Greg asked me if I would write a story on this tragedy, it was a hard story to tell without being brutally honest about the violence that happened, yet I did my best to pay honor to the entire Snodderly family and their memory in this story- so it wouldn’t be forgotten

We all truly appreciate your wonderfully done story telling and really enjoyed playing this video for all of the old timers. The best part about playing this was all the stories that got added onto this of what happened from that point to present in the Hinds Creek Valley. So many precious stories to be told. Thank you for your amazing work!

I positively cannot believe that sheriff! Going after poor Sam, based entirely on a hunch, and not a shred of evidence. I mean, he might as well just have added insult to injury; arrested young Rena, and slapped her with a 'breaking and entering' charge, for forcing her way into her uncle’s cabin for warmth and safety. Absolutely unbelievable!

Wow, You Surely Can Tell an Awesome Story. I was so caught up in it, near the end I was eating an apple, at a particularly exciting part, I involuntarily drew in a deep breath. I had to pause and cough for a moment as a very small piece of apple 🍎 was a problem. I had to laugh 😂 at myself. I've learned not to eat or drink while enthralled in a dramatic story, of Your Telling. Now I feel compelled to listen again.

Another piece of history told by you, JD. And what a story. They were cowards, and justice was served. What gets me is the sheriff at first thinking it was poor Sam that did it. At least the Snodderlys went to be with the Lord together. But what senseless murders. Just because a couple of drunks listening to a rumor. I felt so bad for the young folks trying to get to safe shelter. Sad story, but a good ending. Thanks JD👍. I sure enjoyed this one.

my kin grew up on a little farm just near maysville. fried chicken, biscuits for breakfast on sunday playing barefoot in the woods looking for crawdads in the creek my uncle made bunny tail necklaces for us around our birthdays my cousins taught me the bow& arrow and dogs were never leashed because "how they gonna do their jobs " , cats caught mice & you peed in a pot during the night ❤

Too bad we can’t have this kind of justice still today, but too many activists crying it’s inhumane. What about the poor innocent victims and their lost lives? Great storytelling. Being a history fanatic I love hearing all these stories of the past and You do a wonderful job!
