BE SURE TO TEST ONLY A LITTLE FIRST AS THESE "CAN BE" AN EMETIC!!! THEN ONLY IN SMALL QUANTITIES.
Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum) grows in huge colonies that can completely cover a forest floor (for more info see the link below).
This edible plant is a beautiful spring ephemeral, meaning it is short-lived in the spring only.
Be sure to use the Latin (or botanical) name when researching this plant as some of the other common names may also pertain to similar plants that may NOT be edible!

The ones by my house have a more camo splotching to their leaves.. some grow in sand by the creek n I know they live well in acidic soil. Sometimes I dig them up.. I’d like them to become shade plants on my property.

If you think that’s really odd you can message me n I can give you my number and send you pictures or a video to see that they are probably growing in the sand

I found a similar spread in Algonquin park. They're everywhere. You eat them raw? I've heard people cook them. Is raw the best way?

I love snacking on these when hiking. Yes, I eat them raw BUT in small quantities because it is an emetic herb (can make you throw up)... basically don't be eating a lot in one day. I eat the flowers and leaves raw and in salads. I've never cooked with them although you could add them to a casserole or stew!
