I have a couple silver ,chart body Trout Magnets, and have never seriously fished them. We live in the day and age of Excess ; to many Lures in our arsenal, and they get forgotten about. The only realistic solution to that, is to have a " Just Trout Magnet day, or Just a Rapala day" . Most of us would need several lifetimes to fully test and use our Entire collection.

Well said and good point. I think it can be easy to spend too much time swapping out lures or fishing rods instead of actually fishing sometimes, too.

@wilsonfishingtv2574 That’s awesome! I’m not sure of the exact number, but I think I’m in that same range.. give or take a fish or two. The ones I know for sure that I’ve caught with a Trout Magnet are: creek chub, shiner, bluegill, crappie, white bass, yellow bass, yellow perch, red breast, green sunfish, pumpkinseed, shell cracker, largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass, channel catfish, drum. I caught a carp once on a Crappie Magnet using a Fin Spin jig head. Thank you so much for watching!

I’ve always been fairly dedicated to trout/crappie magnets until I got partnered with MuleFishing but I’ve found with the magnets that if you cut one of the 2 legs off, they get a ton more action and give a similar appearance to Bobby garlands with the thin tail flapping when twitched. It also makes it a ton easier for smaller panfish to get it down.
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek Год назад
That’s a brilliant idea! Thank you so much for that suggestion. I’ll definitely try that out next time I’m fishing. I have heard good things about Mule Fishing but yet to try their stuff. Appreciate you stopping by, friend!

#8 hook too big here sadly,mostly bluegills the mini works perfect and the TM trimmed down front and back on a #10 works sometimes.

@pistolcreek 6 месяцев назад
That’s a clever way to adapt! Maybe a size 12 would do really well for you? Check out the RU-vid channel called i_fish. He sells a nice bluegill jig that has a size 12 wire hook. Pairs perfectly with a trimmed Trout Magnet for smaller fish. The jig is called the BG-1 and I did a short review of them here on the channel last Summer if you are interested. Damnit you're the first person I've seen with your magnets on jigheads in a fly box, I was gonna do the same last week 😂 Good to see it works well though. In most cases I hate trying to slide new plastics onto a jighead just to change colors, so I buy a ton more jigheads and rig one of each color. I'm switching to the fly box with multiple colors of each, plus the mini magnets to go with them. Thanks!

@@pistolcreek The thing to remember about the 8lb. J-Braid is that I use it for less line memory and longer casting distance. I still have a mono or floro leader! Drag setting is very important here and my "hooksets" are more of a leaning into the fish than a hard hookset. You also have to check your double uni knot connection from time to time. Most of the time I break off it's there. Very helpful when hung up, but not so cool when you miss a fish. --- Check out www.youtube.com/@FishAnything - Ultra Lite fisherman who also has his own line of lures. (Mule Fishing) I use all of them. (in the smaller sizes). Also.. check out www.youtube.com/@ndyakangler. Your fantastic voice and easy going manor remind me a lot of him. Cheers!

That’s awesome information and high praise! Thank you so much. I watch NDYakAngler and love that guy’s channel. I will check the other fella out this weekend. I ordered another Daiwa Revros reel a few days ago and may experiment with the braid like you suggest once we are into Winter and those fish go deep on us. The leader makes sense, as I’m betting it would be tough to break the braid off when you got snagged. I got some braided line wrapped up in my trolling motor prop once and almost never got it out!😂

There are a ton of good choices out there! Some of my favorite mid-tier ultralight reels are the Pflueger Trion 20B, The Daiwa Revros LT 1000, and the Daiwa Regal LT 1000. These are all smooth and lightweight little reels. For Rods, I LOVE the Daiwa Presso rod. Really any of the little UL rods by Daiwa or Shimano are great. Bass Pro Shops has plenty of good options, as well. Main thing is look for something with an action rating of UL and 5’6 up to 7’ are great for most types of panfishing. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much! I’d bet that if you did add a crappie nibble, or even a small ball of that bread you use to catch your bait fish, they will hit it more aggressively. I know what you mean about the jig heads.😂 I have never seen a stronger hook on such a small jig head. Almost impossible to bend when you get snagged. At least, tough when you’re already using 2 or 4lb line. The trees along the bank line at my local lake are full of TM hooks!😂

I’ve used these for years with an ultralight setup and a float. Didn’t have that setup when I was out this weekend but the fishing as slow and I wanted to hit up some panfish. I used a 7’ light action rod with a 25 reel loaded with 10# braid and 6# flouro leader. Realized I didn’t have a typical trout magnet float and wondered how I was going to cast that 1/64 lure…until I found a water fillable slip float and threw it on without any type of stopper to hold it in place. Fished it the way I do with Ned rigs and just let it sink to the bottom for a good 30+ seconds after it was on bottom. I was able to put it into so many tight spots with the bobber half full and a good 75+’ away. Caught quite a few small and largemouth bass. Biggest was a 3lb 17.5” that leaped out of the water one last time, throwing the hook mid shake and landing in my readied net. Usually the bigger ones don’t make it into the boat when I’m using these, but not this time. Was a fun battle that didn’t take “too” long and I was able to get a quick pic for showing to my father in law (who then sent me a picture of his much larger fish…).

Hi, Steve! Depending on the price range you are looking to stay in, there are several options. I really like the Daiwa Presso UL rods, a lot. But there are ton of other options. If you are looking for something budget friendly, consider the Shimano Sienna 500 combo for around $52. If you want to spend a bit more, you can get some great reels from $40-70 from Daiwa, Pflueger, Shimano, and others. I really like the Revros LT 1000. Main thing is getting something in a 1000, 750, or 500 size reel with a slower retrieve rate. But honestly, you can fish these on any setup, provided you use light enough line. Ultralight rod and reel is just way more sensitive and fun, in my opinion.

Thank you so much! I bought the fly box from the RU-vidr, i_fishcatfish. You can also get them at Amazon and Walmart. It’s a fly box typically used by trout anglers. If you would like one of my decals, happy to send you one! Just send your mailing info to chris@pistolcreekpanfishing.com
