Troy Bilt leaf blower wont start. I show you how to disassemble a Troy Bilt TB430 leaf blower to see why it won't start. Parts for the TB430 leaf blower model is in the description below.
Replacement parts for Troy Bilt TB430 Leaf Blower.
Complete carburetor kit: ebay.us/T2UX5B
Carburetor cleaner: amzn.to/3dBgSKn
Carburetor adjustment tool: amzn.to/3uzdO7c
New Troy Bilt TB430 25cc 200MPH Gas Leaf Blower: ebay.us/6EiTHP
108pc ratchet/socket set: amzn.to/3uzrz68
Brand new 25cc Gas powered Craftsman leaf blower here: amzn.to/3s5pRHH
Information about video:
When the leaf blower wouldn't turn on anymore, I took it apart and checked the fuel, then the ignition. After diagnosing those two problems, the only thing left to check was the engine block, so I got to the block and found the problem. A worn piston and piston ring, isn't that something?
The compression was terrible. So I purchased a new engine block today, on 4/14/17 from Troy Bilt, so I cant wait for it to get here. Its only a matter of time until I have a brand new Troy Bilt leaf blower working again! Thanks for watching me go through this wonderful experience and finding out the problem to my leaf blower. See you later 🖐

Jesus I did the same thing... Ignition coil, momentary switch, spark plug, fuel lines, fuel filter... Nothing. And I did open it up and see the piston rubbing I thought maybe it was because it was dry with no fuel/oil to lubricate it.
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 3 месяца назад
Your probably right. But mine did the same. I opened it up and the piston rubbed against the cylinder block. I think that’s how these blowers usually fail. I saw another video of a person talking about the same thing and that’s how I learned how to take it apart. So I just bought a new motor for 40 bucks and it cranked right up. Brand new motor for 40 bucks lol

I have the same model and ran it twice with correct mix and it got to where it wouldn't start. So I cleaned the carbs out and spark plug and it would only run choked. So I decided to pull the piston out like you did because I could see thick carbon on top of the cylinder and mine look exactly like yours. I'm junking it and buying a stihl! I've had my still weed eater for three years now and it always starts on the second pull. Cool trick with the rope I don't have a impact wrench either. Thanks.

I want to thank you for taking your time to show us the explosion part of the engine taking apart piece by piece. this is probably why my way blower runs for two or three minutes at full speed tests are slowing down rapidly to install.

Thanks for the video. I'm having the exact same problem with exactly the same blower model. Did the replacement parts last longer since you put it on? I bought this thing for $30 and spent $20 on the carb and now I'm wondering whether it makes sense to spend more money on this stupid thing. TIA.

@GreenThumbEngines 4 года назад
Yep, I still have it till this day. Works fine. I don’t use it as much as I did since I have other blowers. But I still use it every now and then. As far as worth? It’s pretty cheap to me. The engine block is $40. I’m not sure how much the whole unit cost in stores. But if the engine fails all you need is $40 bucks and you got yourself a brand new engine unit again

Hello, before you waste your time and money for parts, there's an easy and quick way to check for serious engine damage. As over 90% of scoring will be on the exhaust side of the piston, just pull the muffler and take a look using a good flashlight. Any scoring/damage is easily visible. This knowledge will allow you to make an informed decision on your next course of action. Thanks for the vid.
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 5 лет назад
Either way. I really enjoy disassembling a small motor to find out the cause of the problem. I don’t think it wastes my time at all. It’s definitely worth every second to me going through the entire piece and cleaning everything to make it last longer

@craigkerr9281

WOW this observation of looking into the exhaust Port really helped I can see scoring on the Piston but I don't understand I've always used the correct amount of fuel and still got a burnt piston or piston rings or scoring in the cylinder whatever you want to call it. I have the same exact blower tb430. I do not have much time on this engine. But really pisses me off that Troy-Bilt thinks they are such good equipment and it feels so EZ cheap equipment cheap parts never again Troy-Bilt From now on it's still all the way. Unless of course Troy-Bilt
@robstone5333
@robstone5333 4 года назад
Craig Kerr Unfortunately, even with the correct fuel/oil mix, this can still happen. Even a minor air leak will alter the fuel/air mix. This will cause a lean running condition, engine will run hot, scoring and other fatal conditions result. TB used to mfg good products. Nowadays, IMO, TB sucks. Just more crap from MTD.

@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 2 года назад
possibly. could be the reason why the piston rubbed against the cylinder wall and damaged the engine. I had to buy a new motor for $40. Works great till this day and I made this video a long time ago.
@tonygram5414

Good job, running these units lean will cause that. I know the mix is what it is, sometimes running a little extra oil doesn’t hurt, it may smoke some, I mean just a little extra but it saves the lower end. Excellent work!

Great video. I have a question. So thi piston is scratch so we replace it with new on and new rings. Do we have to do anything to the block? I need to replace mine thats why I ask. If the block is scratch also do we sand it, replace it or just changing the piston will do?
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 4 года назад
That is a good question. Well my piston was destroyed along with the rings. And inside the cylinder block had scratches in it too. In order for it to work properly, everything has to fit just right and all walls and surfaces must be flat and smooth (no cuts in metal). What I did was purchase the entire engine block from the Troy bilt website and it came with everything including screws. The total cost when I purchased it was $40. So basically $40 and you got yourself a brand new engine. Just assemble and screw everything onto the engine and you are good to go. So overall, to answer your question, just buy a whole new Engine Block, will only cost you $40 :)

I have the same blower and I've got good fire and it feels like I have good compression but not sure if it's enough cause I can't get it to crank is this what was going on with your blower
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 6 лет назад
lol yeah, i know why maybe its doing that. Um, grab your blower and look at the Black Air Filter Cover. it should have like a red switch on there, flip the switch to the left, then prime the gas a few times and try starting it. it should start in like 1-3 pulls with the red switch to the left. once its on, flip the switch back to the right instantly. that switch is called the choke. its meant for starting it up when you havent started it in a while or also known as (cold start). let me know how it goes.

just picked up a weedeater vs2000bv 25cc 2 stroke no start , piston ring seized to piston thats why no compression
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 6 лет назад
damn it seized? did you take the head off to see it? should try scrapping the piston head clean with a wire brush and pouring a little bit of oil between the piston and bore, and then clean the spark plug tip and try starting it. it might fire up for sure. if the engine cylinder wall is bad, then it might shut off after you start it but it will start for sure if you clean the inside.
@jonienglish3231
@jonienglish3231 6 лет назад
took the head off , ring seized to piston , tried to soak piston with CLR, penetrating fluid , loosed up slightly then ring broke . there was a new plug from previous owner , lots of spark , i even rebuild the carb and sprayed Brake kleens to try and start it . got the new ring and installed yesterday , lots of compression now , the piston was smooth no scoring , even cylinder walls no scoring

my murry /mtd same exact problem 2 seasons. threw it in the junk. looking now at new, all the low cost stihl, echo, husqvarna ones only have 1 piston ring. can't see that lasting long. only mtd built has 2 rings on the piston and still junk.
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 6 лет назад
having one ring or two shouldnt make a difference if its junk or not. if the motor is operating like its supposed to, then it should be good. rings just provide a good seal for oil not to leak. if the motor blown, it must of been a gas/oil mixture problem like mine was. must of been running too lean or too rich. in my case in this video, i was running too lean (not enough oil) is why my piston was scored and scratched just like the head was.

I got the same TB430. And same problem i believe. I've done spark plug and verified spark, air filter, cleaned all carb jets, verified that im getting fuel, the piston and rings is all that's left! 👍 UPDATE: Took it apart and no scoring anywhere BUT had low compression (20 psi) so I replaced the rings anyway and NOW can’t get the piston back in the cylinder it’s too tight. And no way to compress rings except with fingers! Very frustrating. This is why I’m not a mechanic by profession lol
@GreenThumbEngines
@GreenThumbEngines 3 года назад
Awwww daaammnn. I like doing that part lol what you do is get a bottle of car oil and touch the oil with your finger a little bit. Then rub it around the top of the piston where the ring is. Then you compress the ring with your fingers like you said while trying to slide the head back on... with the oil, it will slide on easier because of lubrication from the oil. I hope that helps
