It’s weird watching this when you know the actor personally. His wife Deanne Bray is friends with my older sister. They met at an elementary school called arroyo in Simi Valley when they were in 6th grade together. She came to many of my birthday parties as a kid and photobombed many photos of mine. She was an actress too and had her own show later on when she grew up. Her husband deserves this Oscar win. They’re nice people.

I love Deanne!! Troy would guest star on her show. I was like 12 and no exposure to this community in India and this was so long ago. Internet wasn't what it was. I learnt a bit of sign language thanks to the show. Love them all. I remember after so long switched at birth came which again bought the community some recognition but the movie has made history. About damn time

I come from the future, Troy Kotsur is the first openly male deaf actor to win an Oscar.

As a resident of Massachusetts, I had the pleasure of watching CODA in a theater just days after it won all three of its Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur. And I wasn’t going to let any “Oscar slap” get in the way of appreciating a truly deserving work of love.

My name is Linda Mosca-Ginis. I have always loved Drew Barrymore since I was young. I was with New York School for the Deaf (Fanwood) students to visit the show and watch Marlee and Troy. FYI, Marlee is my biggest FAN.

I am very keen to watch that film. Sounds like it's genuinely authentic, let alone, relatable.

It's very good. It's about the Deaf community, but on the other hand it's also just about being a teenager and learning how to be independent from your parents while still loving them. So it's also universal.

I grew up with a hearing problem which doctors confirmed at age three. I was stuck in between the hearing and deaf world. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I enjoyed the sue thomas series which I saw him play in. So many things I can relate to.

I have had a unique problem with my ears. I had constant runny, pussy ears. They were always draining into my hair. I hated it, the smell, mixed lot of times with blood too. It hurts still today thinking about all those struggles. Doctor visits and hearing test I endured. My ear canals never developed correctly so the ears were about impossible to fit with hearing aids. Squealing and popping out of my ears with feedback! Torcherous in every way!

@@TheValSL I don't know for sure, but very possible in 2014 when the French film came out, it had a very limited exposure, mostly in Europe. If it didn't get distributed or broadcast in the US (not much streaming back then), it just didn't catch on. This may have been the impetus to do an English version remake and set it in the US. When it was shown at Sundance, it was well received and and a number of companies bid on the US distribution. Apple secured its US rights and put it on its Apple TV+ streaming platform plus gave free theater viewings in select cities. This raised awareness to the general public and the Academy, and once nominated, Apple did a huge ($10M) promotional campaign which got even more people and Academy members to view it. That's likely something the original French version just didn't have at the time. Now with 3 Oscar wins, I'm sure the French film will also get many new views. I understand the French film was also very good.

@@TheValSL I've read a comment saying the actors on the French film were not deaf at all and the film producers opted to cast hearing actors to play deaf role.

The french movie was a huge success, but imo it was really not as good. The parents were played by hearing actors, and they signed very poorly. There were a lot of embarrassing moments, and the deaf community complained about it. If you look for articles about "la famille bélier" on the Internet you will find ressources
