They may not be besties, but he has interviewed him several times over the years, not just once as a child and they are close in age. That rapport is why Troye is more forthright about things with him that he may not talk about with other interviewers. If not, Troye would shut him down or deflect the question. Also being on Amazon there's less self censoring which lends to a more open conversation.

I agree. But some 'straight' men aren't trying to abuse their hookups if they disclose its casual sex. Communication is important. Some men have told me they are sexually attracted to men but cannot see themselves dating one so sex is purely casual. Making that clear isnt really abusive if it is talked about openly prior, which i think is another side of the song, being vulnerable to explore! And that's a great thing in any light if you are open to that.

From the way you're describing the men you're speaking about, it seems to they're comfortable with their attraction to men (the men I'm referring to in my original comment, and the guys Troye 'dedicated' this song to, do not seem accept their attraction), but do not want to be seen as not straight. Quite explicitly the song is about desperation. Healthy communication is a good bit beyond the scope of the song lol. I feel like a lot of gays are romanticizing the song. The song is definitely about unrequited love, but in a self-loathing way. I agree with your sentiment, but I don't see where the song communicates that. I don't think this is a good case of death of the author either because the song is just so direct.
