Have had similar stories in the drift world since the new formulation of v power was released. Had engines go bang or run like crap after reviewing fueling data. Tesco 99 is now king v power is pishwasser

This is probably the 5th or 6th report of dodgy V Power I’ve heard this year - all of a sudden people are having problems. The majority of incidents were tuned cars, mapped for 99. Obviously a bone-stock car isn’t going to become unsafe - most will happily run on 95. But when it’s tuned to run on 99 it’s a very different story. Modern ECUs can pull timing when knock is detected but that still doesn’t guarantee you avoid issues. Other factors are at play, like heat. None of us want to be driving around wondering if we’re on the edge of something going wrong. At best you lose a fair bit of power, at worst you lose your engine - built or not. Currently running a mk6 R on a hybrid at 420 odd. It’s got half a tank of V Power in right now because that’s all I could get. Feels strong, making power, but it’s not enjoyable driving round with that uncertainty. Tesco 99 is my usual choice. Luckily I have WMI, so that should provide a bit of knock protection (obvs it’s not mapped for meth - that’s silly). But not all of us have that luxury. Anyway, a long ramble, but thanks for doing this vid. I kind of felt compelled to comment after hearing so many similar stories recently. Good luck with the project. PS - Devil Developments / Littco tested different fuels recently and the results pretty much fall in line with what we’re seeing.

That's very bad luck, my friend. Hopefully everything works out fine in the end. that's the advantage of going to a real expert tuner., they find the fault quickly. If you had used a chip box, your car would be ruined.

I’m lucky around by me I have the choice of different 99 octane fuel, texaco, esso, Tesco and shell vpower. I always believe v power to be the best but it’s worrying to think now companies are selling sub standard fuel at top tier prices to us!

It’s worrying that we cannot trust one of the biggest players in the fuel industry about the correct RON/Octane rating when we pay above the odds for it and use it assuming it’ll be a reliable fuel for modified and vintage cars, whenever I’ve spoke to shell regarding the fuel quality they always blatantly insist that all fuel v-power is always 99. Am thinking of using Tesco momentum and might try a couple tanks worth to test for myself.

with an obd reader you have to analyze the parameter octane booster learned , which is the octane quality of the fuel

There could have been a misload when the tanker delivered the fuel but to me if it’s completely 95 or less then I think they’ve got the wrong tank piped to the wrong pumps or they’re delivering into the wrong tank as it’s labelled reg unleaded not super. They’ll never admit it and the most you might get is a couple of quid in compo

I've noticed with at one particular shell station in my ST-Line 1.0 Ecoboost (wish I could have an ST), that the V-Power is cheaper than others near but the fuel is awful. I get 10-15mpg less, a lot less power and it feels as if the engine misfires. But when I go to the other station(s) that's 10p/L more expensive it runs like a dream. Might be worth trying different stations, but probably best sticking to Tesco Momentum 99

Who would you recommend for modified car insurance?

What sort of problem is the bad fuel causing? Misfires?

Mine is stock, will Shell v power ruin my engine?? I dont understand to be fair?

To be honest I always thought she’ll v power was the nuts I put it I’m my mk8 and it’s didn’t pop and bang as much I use Esso 99 it’s so much better

use momentum from tesco so much better and cheaper. its actually not made by tesco so you are good on that but most tesco fuel stations sell it, saved me so much money only cost like £40 - £45 to fill up my vxr

can you have the fuel tested? do you think you will need to blend your own fuel or order custom fuel from a race fuel supplier?

They would blame it on the fuel😂😂
