Truck Breaks Crossing Gate During Malfunction

First, a truck gets hit by a crossing gate at this malfunctioning Railroad Crossing. Then, another truck breaks the crossing gate on the other side and just leaves! A huge traffic jam is created in the midst of this malfunction on the CSX S line, maintained by the SFRTA. This is the Railroad Crossing on NW 20th Street next to the historic CSX Drawbridge in Miami, Florida. Cars will be rage honking and you will see the aftermath; the gate on the floor with the lights still flashing!

if your driving and you can see a grade crossing malfunction turn around if you can !!!! go to other crossing !!!!!

US railroad crossings are the cheapest and less visible of them all. They should really improve the visibility of crossings and modernize the setup.

Ok!! its good that you like to do this kind of thing. Did you report the guy that hit the gate? I would have. Now I'm guessing that you are a rail fan. someplace on the gate signal is a phone number with all the location info you need to report any malfunction. Its a good thing to do that. Keep up the GOOD work.

Looks like they replaced one of the cantilevers. One side has a newer one, the other might be a older RACO Pratt truss cantilever. Once someone takes out the gate the lights may stay on non stop. ♣️💚♦️♠️.

MY UNCLE WORKS FOR RAIL ROAD FOR MANY YEARS IN CALIFORINA AND SAID YOU NEVER CROSS THE GATE WHEN GATE COMES DOWN AND YOU SHOULD CALL THE POLICE IF YOU SEE SOME DRIVER DO THAT. CAN LOSE HIS LICENSE FOR THAT.

I remember chasing a train one time. The arms was going down and a semi driver was turning right, next thing i knew, the arm got stuck between the cab and trailer, and the semi knocked the arm down on the track. Luckily enough the train was going slow and had time to to stop. Semi driver got arrested for damage to private property

okay, first. Who drives into a crossing gate while the light is clearly blinking and also this is gonna cost him money, Like tons of money for the gate itself he is probably going to get sued by the creators of the railroad crossing gates (in this case I don’t know their name)

You need radars installed at your crossings. UK Level Crossings have it, and that does save lives. The system can stop the gates at any time if something is on the crossing.

I’m assuming you’ve looked down both sides of the track and within..... 3000+ feet, you didn’t see any maintenance of way employees or anything on the tracks whatso ever

I don't get all the hate for the truck driver here. If he drove off afterwards, then that I can understand. But if I hear the gate coming down and for whatever reason get stuck there to Hell with the gate, I'll pay for that over a new vehicle, damage to the train, rails, and everything else that may get damaged. Like what else are you supposed to do in that situation?

Shitty looking crossing, cheap railroad wont install a decent road surface at tracks. If i was pulling a trailer and crossing arm comes down in the middle i probably wouldn't even be aware of it.
