Truck Tries To Beat Train To The Railroad Crossing & Takes Out The Crossing Gate Arm. This train is in Mount Orab, Ohio on the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. This is a heavy rock train. The train struggled on the Williamsburg hill due to being loaded with grain and rock. This is part 1 of 2. Part 2 will show what happens when the train stalled on the hill.
The reason for the old color position lights, pole line and insulators is that this line is owned by Norfolk Southern Railroad and leased to CCET. The pole line and old N&W signals were shut off about 18 years ago. I don't remember the exact date but I did write it down in a notebook somewhere. They were shut off before CCET started operating about 69+ route miles of track back in 2014. I have videos of the last NS trains and the first CCET trains. See my playlists for more.
Parts of this video were filmed by Mrs Tooth. She filmed Chessie for me and the aftermath scenes at the crossing in Mt Orab after the truck left.

I am working on an update video to the train derailment. Yesterday I filmed the new track and the site of the derailment. The crossing was also repaved and it just reopened yesterday. It will be an awesome video and I am putting it together right now. Also, the crossing gate arms are made to break away like that and there is very little damage. I have filmed this same thing 4 or 5 times in the past year and they are easy to repair.

If you listen carefully, you can hear the Chevrolet S10 Colorado's brakes squeaking as he tried to stop. When he ended up on the track before the gate came down, he knew he had to get off the tracks quickly. It still doesn't excuse him leaving the scene.

Although they were trying to help protect railroad property which I admire, the engineer probably got more bothered he had to stop to figure out if it was truly safe. He would have been better off hitting it and calling the work order in.

I love the fact that this train engineer LOVES to lean on that air horn standing still. If he kept blowing that air horn, he would exhaust all the air out of the locomotive air tanks and have no brakes. That's the most work a train engineer has to do all day. Lean on the air horn handle. Make a lot of racket.

They must make those gates have a weak break point on purpose I presume. As that sort of thing must happen a lot. Plus it would break should a train run over it. In this case the train was definitely going to stop anyway. Easy for the police to track down the vehicle with the video and photos you provided.

Yeah, they're just plastic - you saw how floppy it was when that guy came and removed it from the tracks. ..... Most gate in the UK are a LOT heavier, with hanging rods that hang down to pedestrians can't duck under either. But then the entire railway is fenced off, so it is difficult for anyone to find their way onto the tracks without jumping over a fence, or entering the open end at a level crossing.

That said, rising bollards, as used in some European countries, to keep cars and vans out of roads reserved for public transport, would be a good possibility!

The shadow of the pickup driver appears he was on the phone. Unless he was delivering a repaired lawn mower he was probably PO'd about having to mow the mother-in-law's grass. JT. Sure aren't a lot of fans who like to wait at the Grade Crossings in your area. Looks like some different reporting marks on some of the hopper cars. Sad to say time and decay after the fire spelled the end for that building and the background views will unfortunately lose that rustic look. Jaw tooth did it scare you half to death when the crossing gate had the accident. And I have been studying grade crossing safety for many years. And it's called operation lifesaver. And saw it on a local channel and tv commercials for it. And everything else.

Where are the police this guy should have to pay for the gate and get a fine for running the red lights,what a nutball it created a dangerous situation for other drivers too.
