I've heard about Mojave Road for years. An infamous 4x4 road through the desert. I had to try it in the truck camper, I just had too...

One thing that doesn't show on camera is how hard it is to make the call that the trip ends at the washout. There are plenty of bodies at the top of Everest of people who sought the summit at all costs. Turning around when you did shows a lot of maturity/experience. Also, it was funny to see a rig like yours that would look perfect anywhere in Alaska, driving through the desert. Two watercraft on the top of your rig in the middle of the desert just struck me as surreal. Nice channel, excellent content, keep up the great work.

That washout at 13:00 was there when I did the trail in 2015. You are right that once past that spot it's pretty easy going. Some soft spots, along with some narrow portions. Otherwise pretty simple.

Great job backing down the road after the impassable washout. Like the others have said, this is an "iffy" spot even for the Jeeps. There is a 13 mile alternative route that used to be posted on the NPS website. By making a wise decision, you can live to play another day. Nice rig, by the way. Good Luck in your travels.

For towing applications and heavy duty trucks they make airbag systems that help with payload/towing and they also make self adjusting versions that could maybe help keep the camper more level on off camber stuff. They adjust all 4 corners separately. Expensive but just a thought

68#? You can go lower pressure with large tires. I’m driving Dodge Cummins and I don’t generally run more than 40# in front. Getting good tire wear and 22-24mpg. Those high pressure recommendations are for much smaller tires than you are running. I do realize that your rig is massive and heavy and you know what you are doing. I’ve never driven a house🤣 Great show!

You remind me so much of my late husband! He was always going to the hardest most difficult places to get to in his 56 International pickup (original engine & drive train too). We spent most of the time exploring the deserts, ghost towns, abandoned mine claims, or just going! That International had an awesome granny gear and could go anywhere. He liked to take the dirt bike along so when we would get as far as the truck would go, he'd unload the dirt bike and we would continue going till we reached the limit on gas or got to a location he wanted to be. Then we would hike. As many times as we had been to the desert, we were always finding new and amazing places. Your driving and preparation skills are so much like him. With the original drive train there was no need for special replacement parts. When he brake cable to the pedal broke, he had a piece of old bailing wire in the bed of the truck and used it to fix it. When the engine was running bad and he determined it was a bad plug, he knew where there was an abandoned mine claim from the 60s. The people that had the claim did all their own repairs on their vehicles and machines for mining. When the Govt denied the renewal of their claim and ordered them to leave, they used dynamite to blow up all the buildings. So, my husband limped the truck there and after about 45 minutes of searching, we found a total of 5 spark plugs, all different. My husband chose the one he thought would work, used his knife to clean and gap it. He replaced the fouled plug with the one we found and BINGO!!! The engine was running smoothly!! LOL! You are so much like him in your ability to be prepared and have the knowledge on how to fix things, resolve any problems or issues, and be able to continue on with a smile and looking for the next adventure. I am so addicted to your channel because I picture him sitting beside me saying, "Honey! We need to go there!" LMBO!! May God continue to Bless and protect you in all that you do!

@@TruckHouseLife Unfortunately my husband passed away in 2009 after a battle with lung cancer. He had been a professional test driver for AMC (before they went under) & and also for military vehicles. Once they found out he was also a computer guru they re-assigned him, but the adventurous driver never left. Before he passed, he told me to be sure his vehicles (65 Mustang, 56 International pickup, boat, all his dirt bikes, and his Harley Sportster) were divided between his 2 sons. The one stipulation was the International was to never ever leave the desert in order to protect it from rusting. I miss bouncing around in that truck. The seat was padding covering the springs, and then a blanket seat cover over that because the original seating material had worn out years ago. Hit a bump hard enough or drop down to quickly in a wash and the seat would launch you into the air and smack your head on the ceiling! LOL!! And I miss that! My health won't let me do any of the things I really want to do, but your channel is allowing me to live them through you. Now if I could just catch a big salmon or Halibut, anything over 4 lbs. LMBO!! Please give Erin my love and tell her she is in incredible, amazing, and talented young woman. She is a keeper and I hope you all will continue to have an amazing life filled with wonderful adventures. And by the way, if you want to see some REALLY HUGE TREES, check out the Redwood Forests and The General in Sequoia National Park/Forest.

You cut off a good chunk of the road by starting at Hwy 95. There is a section to the East that takes you all the way to the Colorado river. There is a go around where you got blocked that used to be published on the Mojave Preserve's website. That wash out has been there for a number of years but since I'm on a bicycle it isn't a problem. You were correct thinking this is the roughest section of the entire road. Try starting at Afton Rd. on I-15. That said you might need to go around Soda Lake if it has been raining a lot. Starting at Afton if the lake isn't passable you would to out Rasor Ranch Road back to I-15 then cut over to Baker and take Kelbaker Rd East to most any dirt road that takes off to the right and connect back with the Mojave Rd. From I-15 to the Colorado River was 134 miles on the bicycle and took 3 days.

So I have had one of these (analog gauge) ones for a few years now, and I once learned a hard lesson while fiddling with it and having my valve core “disappear” somewhere unknown. I used the same little puller to carefully take the core out of my spare and air up the tire, but I now carry a bag of spare cores and someday will break down and buy one of those “all 4 at once” things.

If you decide to overnight for FREE just outside the south entrance of JT (as many do), be sure to park like the others = *perpendicular* to the Interstate and *not* parallel to it. The katabatic winds in that area are fierce! Spooked me so bad (we parked wrong) that I got up in the night and reconnected our truck to our 5th wheel at a 45-degree downwind angle -- the wind was literally *screaming* through there -- never experienced anything like it -- before *or* since! :(

That area has been washed out for years, gotta make a left at the power lines and bypass it. You more than likely would of had to bypass the dry lake also as it wouldn’t have been so dry and burying a big ford is easy to do. Good luck on your next river to river try.

If you manage to encounter a rattlesnake this time of year, they're moving SO slow = not much of a threat. They're a *much* bigger potential issue May thru Sep but during these "winter" months? We've only seen three of 'em in 6+ years and they were happy to get out our way (slowly) every time. :)

Enjoyed your trip although short. Look forward to seeing more. Lived on the Mojave for 32 years riding horses. You need a dog.

As much as I just love to see the trails you take that big ass truck down, I'm just as happy to see that you aren't reckless for the sake of making a video and even better, willing to back down and say so and show why rather than just toss the entire video. There's more reality in this video than in most reality tv and you did it in 20 minutes. Do you have gauges to indicate the angles the truck sits at or are you utilizing your inbuilt clench master?
