Always carry 2x4 s, with one end cut at a 45 , to use for leveling. You can always burn them if you have to. If your fancy you can buy the plastic ones that stack. Safety first and always

Probably listed in the previous comments, however, when I toured the FWC factory before I ordered my HAWK, they had split pool noodles on the top of the door frame to help lessen the impact.

I see you forgot your wood blocks. I Got a similar pop camper much older tho. I like the kitchen cabinet it looks good, plenty of storage. I install a fold up TV DVD player above the junk storage cabinet and play movies at night. Good camper.

You should make some leveling blocks out of wood that are different sizes so your entire Tire can rest on it instead of causing issue with parking on small rocks just some wisdom from doing that myself
@BlazinBlades
@BlazinBlades 7 лет назад
Subscribed! Going over that rock for leveling will create an internal "wound" to the tire and could expose it to premature rupturing.
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
Thanks for the warning. Luckily we don't have to level out very often and when we do, we check our e-rated tires regularly for wear/damage.
@windmillcancersurvivor2568
@windmillcancersurvivor2568 7 лет назад
Intelligent reply on rolling over the rock. You could do this a thousand times and not have a consequence. May be different at speed though. I recommend Bridgestone, Michelin or Firestone which is basically a Bridgestone. Most tires will give good service.
@duane4972
@duane4972 7 лет назад
Coming in off the road with hot tires and parking on that rock can damage your tire, why off roaders air down tires in rocky terrain. Invest in a set of light weight stacking leveling blocks, much cheaper than a new tire, or the possibility of a bad accident when that tire blows out on the highway at speed !! You will find with experience that you will use the blocks regularly, trust me, I have owned a campground and several RV's.

Nice demo guys. I’m curious though, about the weight of the camper and the load capacity of your truck. How close are you to the limit of your truck? I have a 2019 Ram 1500 with a load capacity of 1566, and I really like the Hawk camper, but I may max the limits of my truck. Please advise. Thank you.
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 3 года назад
we were right at payload capacity and tried to travel as much as with empty water tanks. Our advice would be to weigh your truck with all gear, full tank of gas, all passengers you’ll be traveling with and figure out how much camper you can accommodate after

Sorry to keep bothering you man, but if you don't mind me asking, do you know what year your camper is? Also, do you think it is possible to fit a queen sized mattress through the opening in the door? Really, Thank You
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
John Augustyniak our camper is a 2014. If you can fold it you could probably get it in there but the problem you'd have is the bed area is a double bed unless you pull out the tray to extend it to a queen, for example in our camper with the tray out you lose half of the dinette seating since it hangs over it. A thick mattress might also create problems when closing the roof
@Spreadsomekindness

I like to see what people don't like about these campers ? We are buying one in 2019 for retirement. The inside will be sleeping.....an enclosed compost toilet that slides upward to a fan. The fridge off solar and a boat foot pump hand washing station..... The rest will be storage for clothes and boots. We will pull a 10 foot cargo double axle that___TELESCOPES ___to meet the parked vehicle. 10 feet becomes 16 feet with a full double sink ....200 gallons of water heated on a propane stove as we camp and do. 2 electronic propane lights......L shaped counter and cupboards 10 feet long like a house......12 volt fridge. Quiet electric heat off a garage sound proof Honda generator. The small door on the camper is like a space station hatch to give 2 separate areas alone. The back 8 feet is a garage for tools the generator .....fishing gear and at the rear a compost toilet and simple hand shower heated on the stove.....With an 18 canoe sailor and 2.5 hp on top the cargo. This should meet all our needs and we can detach the cargo to go into town shopping. Could not find a RV and engine we liked.
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
BRUCE LEE sounds fun! I guess something we did not like was having to pop up and down the roof over and over. That's also a benefit, but when you can't take the camper off but still need the truck to drive places every day, it becomes an annoyance.
@RETIREMESOON
@RETIREMESOON 7 лет назад
Hey,....I was listening to everything your wife didn't like as woman tend to like us listening...LOL 1) sink was too small and I have heard that from many campers in bigger rigs. So I will have 200 Gallons in the cargo and house sinks. The porta potty gets on my nerves when we camp as humans pee alot more than we think :0) So it's 2 compost washrooms 1 cargo with shower spot and a sm one with wall in pop up. Now as far as taking the camper off I'm NOT I'm gluing or welding it on......My wifes favorite saying is ....." ARE YOU GOING TO DRIVE TO THE STORE WITH YOUR BOAT TRAILER " Same question ?? since 1979......I should have been gay ......no man would say such a thing......people get excitted when they see a trailer of any kind and it starts questions and conversations so I don't have to go in the store and push the cart for mom.....I mean Angela.
@Spreadsomekindness

How do you guys run the fridge when on the road?
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
John Augustyniak we have a two way fridge, it is electric only. Our truck when running charges the batteries but mainly rely on our solar set up for our power needs.
@Spreadsomekindness
@Spreadsomekindness 7 лет назад
Adventures of Mulehawk So while you are driving the truck battery keeps it going until you are stopped and have the solar panels deployed?
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
John Augustyniak our roof mounted solar panel also charges the batteries while driving. The trucks alternator charges the battery, Four Wheel Campers have a battery separator to insure the truck battery is never drained by the camper. When parked we set up our portable panel for extra gain.

You are overweight on a Tundra. Was going to go that route but if you add up your all you weight ready to go with two people wet you will be way over a Tundra payload of 2080. Which if you cause or get into an accident your insurance will not cover you and you can be sued. Most people with campers are overweight and either know it or most probably don;t. It's a huge issue. Your Tundra is probably safe 300 lbs. over but that's about it. And you brakes and everything will wear out super fast. I love Toyota's and have had many and they are awesome. I think they are much better than any other truck. But.... they payload and towing sucks. So I went Chevy 2500HD 4x4. and still with bumpers and winch I'm getting close to max if I bring mt. bikes and kayaks. It's the perfect set up. You see so many FWC's on Tacoma, which I have and Tundra's. Just not enough payload no matter what you do. But... everyone is doing it anyway and FWC is more than happy to sell it to you. You have a bitchen Tundra though, you guys be careful with that heavy load.
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
We weren't overweight, I can assure you that. We had it on a scale, we were under payload and GVW
@matthewschiebout9081
@matthewschiebout9081 7 лет назад
They might not be overweight, but I assure you that many, not gonna say most, just quite a few, are. A Toyota Tundra and the older generation Nissan Titans don't offer a heavy payload option, unlike a Ford F150, for example. A quality, hard sided camper doesn't belong on anything less than a 3/4 ton. I did come across a self-proclaimed professional who was happy to overload even one of those (got a real "deal" when buying it). He was at that vehicle's limit before including passengers, food, water, etc. He should have ordered a 1 ton and spec'd it perfectly for his application with the camper, off-road, dual or high output alternators, etc. packages. Whatever I guess, people don't know what they don't know or think they know better than the manufacturers. At least we can learn from their mistakes:)

Curious how anyone under 40 can afford an FWC+Truck to haul it?? I follow a decent amount of young people with them on forums, blogs etc...I have a decent job and no student debt (unlike many my age) and an FWC is way out of the budget.
@AdventuresofMulehawk
@AdventuresofMulehawk 7 лет назад
We bought the FWC used--they guy had already bought himself a new one and really wanted to sell his old one fast, so we got lucky there. We sold our house (we live with my mom when not on the road) and traded in Luke's Subaru for the truck which was also used. We also have no children and saved up a lot for this journey! Sticking the public "potable water" spigot into your toilet and the waste compartment is not very considerate of others. Maybe you could use a short length of hose that attaches to the spigot and runs to the toilet that you can then leave on the ground.
