For maximum thermal transfer, place the electric blanket under you so you're laying on top of it. Then put your blankets over-the-top and trap the heat from escaping. You won't have to raise it above the low setting when you do it that way. Remember, heat rises, so put it underneath you.

I use my for 18 euro on a minimal setting drawing around 1,75A @12V (including 150W MSW inverter) in freezing temperatures without problems. Anything beyond minimal output is unbearable to lay on. I remember having old school heated blankets. The kind that didn’t turn off with a timer. Eventually my dad figured out that it would be cheaper to insulate the house better and run the thermostat a few degrees warmer than it was to run 2 fire hazards during the winter.
@DanielSultana
@DanielSultana 2 года назад
I'm pretty sure that using an electric blanket properly is way cheaper than trying to warm up the whole living space. I own and use an old style (no timer) electric blanket, which is rated at 60 Watts per side, it has two power settings, so 60 Watts is the high setting, and it should use far less on the lower setting (unfortunately it doesn't say what wattage it runs on on the lower setting), but even if you calculate it at the high setting running all night, that's still only 0.36kwh per 8hr night, again that's the high setting, if running it all night, you should use the low setting. The way to use it: put it directly on the mattress and cover with a fitted sheet, use a top sheet and quilt/duvet. This makes the heat source close and uninsulated to your body. The mattress and quilt/duvet trap the heat produced by the electric blanket and your body, therefore you need very little energy to keep the bed warm as you're heating up very little space and holding that heat in, compared to trying to heat the entire house including the bed
@andrewnovo3078

As a veteran of electric blanket cold-camping, here’s what you do: 1) insulate under your sleeping bag. This is a must. 2) electric blanket has to go INSIDE your sleeping bag with you, but on top of your body inside the bag. Remember that blanket only puts out as much heat as a 100watt light bulb, so if it’s laying out in the open it won’t do you any good. An insulated sleeping bag will insulate you from the warmth the blanket creates as well as the cold (thus why it needs to be inside the bag).

@tomcat8662 2 года назад
@@mtnbound2764 You’d be fine with just a small battery pack. Assuming that you’re well insulated inside a good sleeping bag and that it’s zipped up all the way, the heating blanket inside would only need to run at the very beginning of the night. Once the warmth has built up, you should be ok after that without assistance.

FYI, lowest temp I've used mine in was low 20s, while out camping during a bad windstorm, but it worked like a charm. Btw, yes, you can wash it, the instructions are on the blanket. A 12 volt heating blanket does not require as much power. If you take your time, research and compare the power consumption of different 12 volt blankets, you can find some very efficient options.
@EndstyleGG
@EndstyleGG 2 года назад
But the lower consumption ones will be colder...
@Just.Ashley.S
@Just.Ashley.S 2 года назад
@@EndstyleGG Colder isn’t an accurate descriptions for 100+ degrees of heat in a blanket. That’s plenty hot and 12 volts can power that just fine.
@EndstyleGG
@EndstyleGG 2 года назад
@@Just.Ashley.S A blanked that takes 100w versus a blanket that takes 50w will literally put out 2x as much heat. How many degrees exactly will depend on how cold it is and how much insulation (aka. blankets) you have around it and yourself
@Just.Ashley.S
@Just.Ashley.S 2 года назад
@@EndstyleGG Outside temperature and insulation are subjective factors. I’m talking about the standard temperature rating on 12 volt heating blankets. It’s simply mathematics to understand that less power consumption equals less output, however that’s not what I’m arguing nor does my statement contradict that. My reply is quite simply if you read it for what it is. Again, 12 volts can power heating blankets upwards of 100 degrees with no issue. That is quite hot and almost intolerable at the highest settings, therefore anything using the word cold/er is not an accurate description. It does not require that much power to put out that much heat. Will more power put out more heat, of course, but it’s not necessary especially when it’s at the expense of inverter power consumption.
@jameshughes131
@jameshughes131 2 года назад
@@EndstyleGG so what he means in laymen's terms is that powering a 100w dc device is more efficient that powering an AC devices if using dc batteries becuz there is power loss in the DC to AC and back to DC conversions.
