Truck Camping in a 1.8 Million Acre Forest

We're truck camping in the 1.8 million acre Ouachita national forest. The Albert Pike recreational area is a favorite of ours in Arkansas. That morning Kellie made chocolate scones. We went on a run and found disgusting amounts of trash in this beautiful area. Later that day we decided to clean up the entire national forest road and all the campsites. After an afternoon of cleaning we relaxed back at camp in the creek. Made a campfire and for dinner Kellie prepared a delicious three cheese rigatoni. Please remember to leave no trace and leave your camp better than you found it!

Pack it in, pack it out. People who leave trash are to blame for our parks getting closed. Stupid and irresponsible. Good on you for taking the time to clean up where and what you could.

Get a silicone wedding band. Actually get 3-4 of them and just keep them handy. They’ll just break off you instead of trying to take your finger with it.

Kudus to you both for being good citizens and cleaning up. It always baffles me how someone could be so inconsiderate and thoughtless leaving trash behind and abusing nature. These are the same people that would complain if the state parks put restrictions on use due to this problem. Great work! Cody - about your ring finger.... I am a licensed and graduate engineer / project manager that worked in the oil and gas business for 45 years until retiring last year. The incident with your ring getting caught is all too familiar. This is a common accident for construction workers and you are lucky to still have your finger. I'll refrain from any gore, but on my first field assignment as a young engineer, I had an assistant superintendent on the project that was inspecting work, one day he jumped off the scaffold to the ground that was higher than his height. His ring was caught on the scaffold, he went all the way down. He lost his ring finger. About two months later I was moving furniture at home and a big chest slipped in my hand and caught my ring.... nothing serious happened, but I felt the pressure and tug on my finger that reminded me of the superintendent. I took off my ring, put it in the chest and I don't think I've ever put it back on. You can't un-see an event like I did and it not make an impression on you. FYI... married for 48 years this December and going strong. Unfortunately, I've seen this particular injury several times. Be careful is all I can say, or get a silicone band. We have the cookbook! Highly recommend it! We'll be trying out the Three Cheese Rigatoni really soon! Always enjoy following you guys and your adventures. Be safe! Don from Florida

I know a lot of fans have thanked you for all of your work cleaning up after disrespectful campers, but it needs to be said again. Thank you so much. You have cleaned up more than once, and I want you to know it hasn't gone unnoticed. We will always have to clean up after those who go before us, but it is a good feeling when we leave places better than we found them. Yes, we clean up other's trash, too. We always carry extra bags for that purpose. We participate in "operation clean stream" along the river we live next to. Kellie, your mac and cheese looks phenomenal! I'd be making it if I didn't have to be dairy free 😢. I had to put an oven thermometer in my camper oven to verify the temp. Most of the time it is pretty accurate. I, too, put a stone in mine and it helps a lot with regulating the temp. Happy camping 😊.

Cody' I feel your pain. Climbing down a precarious placed ladder while steading myself on a wood structure, I had a giant wood sliver jab me under my ring causing me to fall of the ladder. I hung by my finger until I got my footing back. It Hurt for months. I love your videos, keep them coming . Oh yeah, thanks for cleaning up the trash. That was an amazing thing to do. Most people would just leave it and complain

I do anesthesia for a living and you can't imagine how many people I've seen de-glove (rip the skin completely off!) their fingers by catching their metallic rings on things just as you did! That's why years ago I started wearing a silicone wedding band only and wear no other rings. It's much safer! ...... Oh, and on a side note, I love your videos and have followed you two since the very start!

Nice of you guys to take responsibility for other people's mess. I have a suggestion about your dish. I think you could increase the presentation by adding diced red or green peppers, and/or diced tomatoes and sprinkle with oregano. You could also add frozen vegetables/peas for additional taste. 😁

I believe they do say NOT to bury toilet paper. Thanks for doing this. I live in a small, rural town, and am part of a forest cleanup group. A suggestion for females is to use a kula (pee) cloth. It's reusable and washable. Great even for home use!! Amazon sells them in packs of two. You can snap one onto a backpack for use while hiking.

THANK YOU for helping to clean up our beautiful natural spaces!!! It's unbelievable how much trash and waste people leave behind. Leave NO Trace People! I live in CA and am always cleaning up. I bring trash bags on my hikes and just clean up as I stroll or camp. The fisherman out here are the worst. Fishing line, cigarette butts, beer cans/bottles, empty bait jars, food wrappers all around our beautiful lakes and streams. Keep our waterways clean or you pollute your fishing spots. And the people who go to the bathroom right near the water!!!! Seriously?! Backpackers are the most responsible. Car campers are a mixed bag of good and bad. It's not hard people. Pack out what you pack in. 🙏

Thank you for trying to set a good example for all the ignorant, negligent, and selfish people out there who feel it is their right to go camping in public places, but cannot be bothered to pick up their toilet paper, poop in a cathole far from a water source, or keep their garbage out of the fire pit. It is maddening to see evidence of society's descent into savagery at nearly every campsite.
