These migrant workers come to Singapore to help build our country. They should not risk their safety or even fork out extra money to get back to the dormitory. The public transport system should look into extending the hours of service in making sure the workers get home safely and they get sufficient rest. Look at how many news reported this year, migrant works help pull car/people into safety or help to search for items that were lost. These people have a bigger and kinder heart than Singaporeans (unfortunately). We should return the same

Agreed! We must extend the bus hours for our migrant workers! I'm sure Smrt won't lose much, as MWs would be willing to pay for the transport of a dollar to get back instead of $2 with illegal lorries.

Yup the lame statement, summons, illegal, employers responsibility, why not just be straight to the point of solving the solution and typically stop with the round the blame bushes. Just extend the operating hours of the bus service, why end service early in the first place for that area. Run the bus service operation hours just like the other estate. Many contractors in Singapore don't work mostly at office hours, and even work at weekends. Show some proper humanity. They have work hard to keep Singapore infrastructure for what it is now.

Should fault the authorities for not taking action to help the worker rather than taking action against the operators. Obviously the operators will take cover. Then what happens to the workers.

I think this is misguided. Last bus service 925M ends at 7.20pm on sun and ph. That is why we only see these "illegal ferry" on sun and ph evenings. How about any other day. If not mistaken, service 925 last bus timing is 9pm on normal days.

This will not be an issue if the root of the problem is solved. Right now, weekends and public holiday Bus service ends early. MW and even people working in that area have no accessible transport. With high cost of living in SG and comparing their low wage, do you expect them to take cab every weekends? Are we depriving them from their off days to shop for their basic needs? Bus service should extend. If not, LTA and dorm overall In charge discuss how to provide good well being. Let's respect all. Be kind and nice to one another.

Money talks. Even if companies were asked to get buses for transport, the costs will be handed down to end consumers, citing "rising costs". The bigwigs mostly close eye on this, as long as ownself get rich.

yes I agree I use to work as security at west lite kranji way dorm. useally sun and ph servicev925 m. end at 19:53 then I have to be stuck like hell until 21:30 then get taxi I ask my wife to book grab on that priod 😢 luckly my agency that I work no assignment

The govt stop buses at 8 creating demand for cheap and convenient, illegal transportation. Which cascades into a supply of illegal offences which the government can then fine. At the end of the day, still a profitable business model for the govt.

why so many illegal activities allowed to operate rampantly? something is not right. it is already morally wrong to allow humans to be transported as goods in these lorries in order not to incur cost at the expense of lives - now with these illegal operators doing this, in the event of an accident these workers will not be compensated by the insurers. Will the lorry owners and drivers be jailed and the company involved taken to task?

why does the bus ends so early whereas diff parts of the country busses run until 11pm or 12pm? Bus services say please tap in and out with ur cards for payment as well as statistics for planning routes and usages. Well aint this needed to extend the bus services beyond 8pm then? Singapore needs to take care of the people who help build this country. As a matter of fact they live in this country too.

Why can't we just "import" Thai red truck taxis? It's cheap and just enough for comfortable transport without much danger to the workers... certainly better than the dangerous scaling up the back of the truck...

1st world country but the bus service is not 1st world standard..why make the bus service end so early, just because "cant" earn enough profit if run the bus abit late.. so this is how our system treat or respond a problem.. its sound more of $$$ over a service for the mass. want profit, go play crypto or bitcoin.. dont go and be a bus compy that service the backbone of spore transportation service.

The most disturbing situation that had emerged during the pandemic is the health vulnerability of the migrant workers as a result of the failure of the government to listen to the warnings of non-governmental civil society activists. And Singaporeans are genuinely appalled by the government’s neglect and sympathetic to the workers. Consequence to that is the urgent call for more civil society participation and for the government to respect the work of civil society.

You make it sound like it’s very easy “be back before 8pm”. Not everyone in sg works in office 9 to 5 goyang kaki in office. Some works in shift. I also work shift my shift starts at 10pm bus ends at 8pm I have to go early 3hrs sometimes, sometimes I have to divert to a longer route since it still has service until midnight.
