I have been in the trucking industry for 15 years and I find your videos very informative and helpful for people that are new to our industry. Keep up the great work!
I fully understand people with GPS, (I'M A TECH JUNKY) but I alway learn the old school way of things, there for wen I go to GPS it'd even better to under stand. That atlas right there never looses signal or makes you go somewhere ilegal. keep that in mind. combine both techniques.
GPS not always give you the most accurate directions to places. Nothing beats the ATLAS road trucker for sure. Writing things downs to the driver and student understanding is best. Gracias por compartir tu knowledge junior.
+Francisco Roman Yeah Francisco alot of people dont see that part of this whole process of Trip Planning. Gracias mi hermano y esque ahora en dia todo mundo si no es el GPS no saben hacer nada. Gracias y gracias por ver el video 👍👍
It always pays to have a good plan of action for excursions. Just think of what we had before GPS: Rand McNally or AAA maps, Delorme & Thomas Bros map books, and of course the phone calls to the receiver for directions. I still don't fully trust a GPS unit.
Wow very similar to how I do/did my directions before GPS. I find that writing them down helps lock them in my mind. GPS is great but can sometimes lead you astray.
+chrisretusn Not only lock them in the mind but also makes sure that they are actually looking at the signs and not just following GPS. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
+gdvibes1 thank you very much and look at the other videos I have and it will show you a little bit more as far as how to work the atlas. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
great tip Junior H...as you could see from the atlas that NM6 is not a truck route though it was exactly where u were to exit from I-25...goods head up as most drivers may have taken the short cut and risked being off a truck route and maybe even being fined. drive safely.
+jmtckr That is correct and im sure some have done it and have been lucky. Like I say and have said before "I like to play it safe". Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Junior, Im prepping to go to CDL school/training. Been watching alot of videos lately and this seems like the most valuable information I have come across yet.
+CALI MAN hey man I haven't seen you in a minute. I hope all is well with you and then you are staying away from the winter weather and from what I can read I believe you are being that you are a cali man. Thank you very much for watching I really appreciate it 👍👍
Junior, is ok when you have someone doing this while other guy is driving, but sit very new company driver with the whole pressing the carrier used against to the drivers and the driver freek out and only follow the qualcomm direction, using dispatch or manualy set adress on it.
Good idea to start with a paper map Wow, we didn't HAVE GPS 20 years ago. A paper map was all you got. I can't believe how many people can't read a map. It's not their fault, though. They just never had to read a map but if you use GPS exclusively, it seems like you will miss some signs. Kinda like pay phones. They are obsolete now. LOL
The main issue I have is knowing what truck stops I should stop at when I stop for the night to maximize my hours for the day but still have a fair chance in finding a spot to park when I decide to park
how can you do all that work when drop and hook if shippers give you about 30 minutes to leave their premises, and as soon as you leave the shipper you can't pull over on the road blocking traffic just to do all that trip planning, that happens to me a lot and even if I don't like it I have to follow the GPS ..besides my company uses people's net, their directions are very vague..great info and very helpful for many out there..Keep it up.
+Hernando Patiño I definitely understand where you are coming from but all this is dond prior to you even getting to the shipper. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
How's reefer? I'm stuck between reefer and flatbed but starting flatbed in the winter has its pros and cons. If I was to go reefer I would choose Wil-Trans a sister company of Prime if I was to do flatbed I'd choose TMC
+Demetrius Davis Yeah I can't really tell you about Flatbed. I can tell you that there are more loads here on the reefer side as opposed to the flatbed. Goodluck and be safe out there. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
+sean chastain I do not have any videos on those but if you can explain a little bit more as to what you are looking for maybe I can come up with a video. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
In to month I will be in Florida but I need you to train me how to drive a trailer have been following for two year really long live.am a refugee here in Kenya.
hey Junior I got a question since I noticed on the Qualcomm thing it said no overnight parking. Do you get many tickets from parking overnight or do you look for places where you can avoid the tickets. just asking because I heard that there are truck drivers that stay overnight because they want to be ready to get their load as quick as possible and keep on moving to make more money. What's your input on this? I would appreciate it if you could give me some insight on this. Thank you
+Arturo Beltran Well I have never gotten a ticket for parking somewhere I am not supposed to and trust me I have parked in some places that I even amaze myself as to how its done. What I mean by that is who would have thought of working here? I did 😅😅. At times you have to get creative as to where you're going to park because what drivers like to do is they like to park nearby so that in the morning when you go to deliver your clock does not start having to drive to the delivery. The reason being that they don't like to start the clock is because sometimes the locations will have you wait longer periods so that messes up the clock for your next load and of course it would have a domino effect on to your money. It's always good to trip plan ahead and get that out the way so when you get there you know where you're going and what not you're not having to look around burn your clock driving around for a place to Park. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
Junior, how to you plan your ETA? I was told to take mileage to the designation and divide by 55mph and then add the time for things such as breaks, fueling etc.
+Jason Chadd that is one way to do it and with that being said you have to planned it out every time you stop meaning what do you stop depending what time you start depending what time you start you have to get another ETA from wherever you are. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
I have a question. Today I passed my skills test and my instructor sent the wrong info to the DMV. They gave me a code 55 restriction which means I tested in a truck with a gross weight of less that 26,001 lbs. But my truck I did it in was 29,000 lbs. Does the instructor need to resend the correct info to the DMV to get the restriction taken off? Thanks!
+Sonic_1000 Yes for sure because he was the one that sent it in the first place. Hopefully they dont question it too much if any and Goodluck.Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
5-10 years ago I could see a need for all this but nowadays gps are accurate to within 1 ft and 10 minutes most of the time so I do not see the need for all of this let’s say you do not have signal then at that point ## Qualcomm otherwise just stick to a trucking gps and to even eliminate the problem of having no service just take a picture of gps directions on your phone Tada ! As far as a trucking gps acting up and sending you the wrong way the cops will more than likely understand if you get pulled over, and it’s not that difficult to ask for new directions from gps either way just input Qualcomm directions into gps now you can never go wrong if you go wrong then it’s dispatchers fault not yours
I'm going to CRST for training February 4th is there anything you can tell me now before I get there?? Email me naturefreak80@gmail.com my name is Adam
Man, I hate to tell you but what you see on Prime's QC ain't chit! Wait till you get sick of their BS and leave for another company that has directions that are shady as fuck. Anyone who has been at prime and went else where knows what I mean.
I dont think truck drivers actually look at physical maps anymore. No reason to. Just put into gps, zoom into the last mile and follow the map to see if it matches the notes.
+Beyond The Stars Because I have no room for error and if there were to be an error it could cost me alot of money or maybe someones life. I like to llay it safe. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
+Beyond The Stars Yes I understand what your saying but until you get a fat ticket then you will continue to say routes are routes. Which is something I am not going to wait and find out. Yes they have truck GPS don't get me wrong but at the end of the day the GPS still acts like a GPS which means it will act up and send you the wrong way. 👍👍
I don't get this shit. Just download a truck GPS app off the Google play store and you're good to go. I don't need a damn map. They are too complicated to read.
@@adamwolfe6068 it is better to use maps as a second option. But now a day's u can buy a truck gps in eBay that helps u avoid low Bridges and neighbor hoods where trucks won't fit
