Need a rack under your truck cap to hold your fishing rods and other items? Then this video is for you! (Welding skills required). I've been searching for a utility rack / fishing rod rack, for a long time that doesn't require boring holes in my topper. I came up with this idea, and it has served me and my friends well over the years. This is my 4th one that I built. Hope this video helps you to come up with your own custom plan. Please share my video with your friends, .....and of course....... PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to my channel. Thanks for watching and sharing!

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! ALSO... thanks for subscribing! I always felt like this was one of my better ideas, but am surprised how little traffic this video gets. Glad this helped you out, my friend!

Excellent video. Due to the ‘stay home’ orders for c19 I have the extra time to indulge in a project as such and have the appropriate material on hand. Cut most everything tonight. Will fit and weld together tomorrow. Wish I would’ve kept those old overhead door springs.

You're going to love this rack. I use the hooks at least a couple times per week when I do my grocery shopping. they are great for hanging grocery sacks. Here's a tip for ya.... get a couple long bungees to span the rack in order to keep your grocery bags from swinging too much. Kind of 'cages' them in a little bit. Going to be load it with fishing rods this weekend I hope. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please share my video with all our fishing and welding family out there. I could use the views. Also, let me know how yours turns out. Thanks again, Matt!

This is more complex, but similar to what I did when I went to Canada...nice work.

I came up with this idea from the design of a covered wagon that we used to own. It's basically bows like you would see on a wagon.

That’s a cool project keeps your rods from breaking into pieces

Yes! I'm tempted to weld some hooks on the sides to create a gun rack too. The modifications on this are endless. Thanks for the positive feedback, Robert!

I find that I use it mostly for hanging hats, coats, and grocery bags most of the time.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been brainstorming an idea for more storage and the ability to mount things off the floor. I LOVE how you attached the frame without drilling holes, that was the big question I had yet to answer. Many thanks

I had this issue for several years too. It took some serious thought, but I pictured a covered wagon with the bows, and used that idea and ran with it. When I was a kid, we had a horse and covered wagon that my dad would take on trailsides. Basically, I made wagon bows. They work great. I use them on a daily basis. Thanks for the comment, Thomas! Please share the link of this video with anyone that you think might find this useful. I don't get a lot of hits on this, and I really thought it was one of my better inventions.

Brad, I really appreciate you sharing my video! Thanks for the good words. I don't know if you deer hunt, but I came up with another "invention" for that. Might help you and your friends out as well. here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V-ADgOictek.html oh ya... and here's another version I came up with: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D8Z_7nbD-DE.html

Yes. I have some long rods too. However, when I buy the longer rods, I make sure they are able to break down. I do like 1 piece rods, but they are not worth me having the headache of hauling them. My fly rods are 4 piece, and my saltwater Ocean rods are 3 piece.
