When you get into those tight situations, try and get your drive group as far out as possible, rather than swinging through the corner. By getting the drive group out as far as possible, that will bring the trailer forward, hopefully allowing you to make the turn a bit easier.

@truckinguk Год назад

What's a drive group please
@111jacare
@111jacare Год назад
@@jonpitcher9542: The axles on a HGV are usually called Steer, Drive, Dolly and Trailer. If it is only one axle, then it is referred to as above. If there are two or more axles in a group, then it is referred to as a group, as there is more than one axle in that group. In the OP's videos, he is trying to get around corners without getting the drive axle group as far forward as possible. The drive group also includes the turntable, which the trailer connects to and pivots on. By getting that group further into the corner, by starting the turn, then reversing on the opposite lock, go forward, then reverse back, you are bringing the rear of the trailer forward, so you have a better chance of getting the trailer around the corner, without hooking the trailer on the inside of the turn. However, you now have to keep a close eye on the ends of the trailer due to the front and rear overhang. Yes, I have seen this done when transporting an 8 metre wide house, and have done this a few times myself in tight situations.l

@johnsuffill6520
@johnsuffill6520 10 месяцев назад
I reckon two things would help here. Firstly, if some roads were marked as 'not suitable for large vehicles'; and secondly, if a GPS system could be made that catered for HGV drivers instead of just car drivers.
@skylarius3757
@skylarius3757 2 месяца назад
there are already truck sat navs. But they are not 100% accurate. Sometimes they will try send you down a restricted road like 7.5t . Other times they can send you on a long route when a shorter alternative is possible. When a road says that it is unsuitable for HGV, that means that 2 HGV's cannot pass but that doesn't mean to say that a HGV can't go there because tractors may be using these types of roads.
@johnsuffill6520
@johnsuffill6520 2 месяца назад
@@skylarius3757 My post was somewhat tongue in cheek 😉 Your point is valid though, GPS needs to cater for different size vehicles accurately. It's no good sending a HGV down a road suitable for a 7.5 tonner max, or (and this has happened many times) directing you to a bridge over a river only to find it's for pedestrians only! Hats off to all HGV drivers, you have a tough job to do and it's not going to get any easier 🙁

Mate, you need a good dispatcher/router, to check your routes in advance for the best option, it's a small cost in money/time for a great benefit considering how much time you loose in every one of these incidents (how many extra loads per month/year could you take if you didn't get stuck so much)
@thesuperiorman8342

What exactly is a dispatcher/router? You mean a truck satnav or some telephone guy you call to get the best routes?
@TruthTortoise81
