True continues its tradition of making sticks that don't last and I will keep calling them out for it. As a beer leaguer you want some performance and some durability. True doesn't get it and doesn't respect its customers.
Nicely done as always, Justin. I really wanted True to bring something great to market with the next batch of sticks however, they keep chasing weight vs striking the right balance between durability and performance characteristics. Your loss is our gain
They really are chasing the wrong thing. Anyone can have the lightest stick if they want to. The reason they don’t is it will cost them. Keep it at 380 or so for your top stick and you will have a balance.
Love the review. My local shop got the 9x3 last month and I have a teammate that's already gone through four. He bought two at one time and both went through warranty replacement, he was pissed!
I really like your stick reviews. What sets you apart from other reviewers is you tell it like it is. You say if you want a high performance stick this is the one to buy, but don't expect it to last more than a month. Other reviewers always leave that out.
Nice vid per the usual! I think we talked about this, but I’ve had a love/hate with True sticks. I love that they have a P92 equivalent in a real lie 5, but I hate that they last two minutes. Their custom skates are the same way.
Thx Chris yes we did lol it’s hard to like stick no matter the spec you want if it blows up this quick! The p14 clone was instant gamer for me until this. So sad.
I think you should review 7x3 catalyst/7x hazardous. I’ve been finding pretty good luck with them, but the resin peeling thing I’ve been noticing on a few of my hazardous sticks right now.
Any plans to see a video on 2023 protective anytime soon? I'm looking to upgrade Shoulders pads/elbows. FT6 stuff coming soon? Always appreciate that you take the time needed to really test the gear. (Noticed the FT6 pro is your current gamer, vid soon?)
Ft6 pro stick should release this week. Protective very soon. Summer was hard since I decided to take most of it off from the chaos of running’ a team and playing 4-5 times a week which is where I get most of my footage from. The ft6 stick is filmed just need to edit. Do least that will release fast. Few other things half filmed as well. Come sept there will be much more videos since I’ll be playing again! :)
I must say True sticks have been great for my boys who are both under 12 years old. They have lasted through entire seasons. My pro-stock Catalyst has been lasting pretty decently too but I know they make the pro-stock models a bit more robust than their high-end retail sticks.
Do you think it is just factory issues or just the build quality of true sticks? Also Alpha LX2 Pro review in the near future? I wanna see if it would top the Alpha LX on the tier list.
I think it’s a build quality from the factory and true not being like hey can we solve this. You can see the fuse point and resin that is poorly done and mfg defects like gaps and dents etc. lx2 soon. Have plans for that one a bit different
when you return within the warranty replace are you able to choose a different stick at the same price point? i can't imagine how i would feel if i had to use the same stick that lasted 2 practices and just loose $400 like that
Hockey tutorship sounded australian lol ive been loving the rekker so much my tmp still has pristine white tape. The sherwoods have worked great, i dont feel the need for more expensive sticks.
True just released a video of their new state of the art facility in Tijuana Mexico and looks impressive, but someone in QC is having a siesta 🤣 during their shift.
do you think that its possible that, because you seem to be a pretty strong guy, and you take mostly old school snap shots, that a 75 flex stick wouldnt hold up well in general for you with clappers?
The ft6 is holding up well, as is the Asv pro as well, and many others so although I’m pretty strong trained guy and using 75 these days, this particular type of composite and resin here is not going to be durable at all. Its almost like soft if that makes sense It’s prone to impact fractures that compromise the structure and literally dies right away. The new layering of the ccm ft6 seems to be quite good and holds well, where true seems to really struggle, I’m going to use the warranty for 85 and if it’s changes I’ll let everyone know.
I was waiting for this because I really want to get a 9x3, I guess I'll need to wait and see other peoples reviews and see if this is a common issue. I skipped the 9x due to the blade comments I've heard.
It will be common, I got my warranty return and checked all the sticks at the store. The build issue in the hosel will have issues unless they fix mid run. Could happen when they start getting massive returns but for now at lunch the stick is not worth buying and will hit people’s wallets quickly
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I typically wait for sales and or pro stocks before buying sticks anyway, so next summer when we get some prostocks is probably when I will look to pick one up. Unfortunately nothing pops like a True mid-kick I've found. Luckily I found 2 XC9s a few months back and hope those will hold me over.
I went through two hzrdus's in like four games. The warranty replacement lasted one game. It sucks, because like you, i wanna like these sticks. Everything i have is true head to toe, and the performance of these sticks is just insane, so it makes me sad honestly. The shafts are super thin if you look at them from the top. Like insanely thin. They definitely are about weight, and like you mentioned, 400+ grams isn't heavy at all... My catalyst 9x seems to be lasting though, and i have a pretty hard snapshot and clapper. Also my prostock project x has been lasting a while also. It might not necessarily be design. It could be the build process yield error rate. It almost seems like you get a lemon or a tank lol. I also noticed that fuse area at the blade neck. The stick itself must not be a true OPS, or something else. Idk. It goes from thin to fatter to thin right at the fuse point. I could've swore everyone was done with faux OPS's. With all that being said, we'll see how long my 9x3 lasts lol. It comes tomorrow. Luckily i have got every stick from them for half price. I would've been super salty had i paid full price. I'll probably try and find pro stock ft5 pro's or as v pro's next and try them. I like mid kickers.
That’s the shitty part of they could just make it a tad more durable with the performance it would be the best sticks on the market. But they can’t find that sweet spot. The new project x that is coming h man I can image what that’s gonna do. Blow up in one shot
It's a shame to see. I was a big fan of the A5.2 and A6.0 sticks and had probably 6 of them over the years, but those sticks had delimitation issues with the blade. I used the Euro Pro which was a version of the 6.0 in college hockey and 2 sticks lasted me a whole season, the best sticks i ever used. They dont even have a modern equivalent to the A6.0, you cant get a midkick stick from them that has a stiff blade, the catalyst line has a dampened blade. Luckily i found a Nick Bjugstad prostock catalyst that is actually a modern version of the A6.0, i gambled that he would have kept the same stick specs and lucked out, so far so good on durability, but its not a retail stick. True used to be known for durability and now I haven't heard anyone talk about say good things about True. New rule of thumb for true is to buy a prostock or go 1 model down from the flagship, or what most will do is avoid them all together.
I should have traded the warranty for a 7x now that you mentioned that. Darn it. Oh well once I brake it in one game maybe the store will feel bad for two in a couple days and let me change it lol
Lol Bauer has made an agent version of the sync so super light No ER spine its got the jetspeed R geometry and obviously a mid kick. Hasn't been released yet but no ER spine so if it has some durability might be a decent stick
I guess ill expect to see the boot cracking issues with the hzdrus skates like thr tf and catalyst retails. Sad to say im going to stop usont true skates altogether now even though their performance snd fit is exceptional. Like the stifks, im not spending so much money to enjoy them for a few hours at a time. Reminds me of easton sticks. Great performance. Super poor durability
I have 3 team Mates with cracks in true boots. It’s their composite for sure. I’ve never seen that in other skates. Bring to sticks with way weaker walls and have a bad combo
A couple of things. 1) That stick is not meant for heavy clappers. Especially not leaning all 200+lbs of your weight into a clapper and expecting this stick to hold up. 2) You CAN do that with the CCM AS line or the Warrior Alpha Line That stick IS meant for quick releases. I play beer league at a high level as a D man and its been probably 10 years since the last time I took a clapper like the one you took in this video. I primarily use CCM pro stock AS sticks. They're durable AF, take a beating, and give me a heavy snap shot any where from the hash marks out to the blue line. I think you should review sticks more in line with what the manufacturer has in mind, not with your 200lb alpha dude, I take 170 mph clappers and wonder why a stick disintegrates when you expect it to do something its not designed to do. I'm not sayin. . . . I'm just sayin.
You’re telling me a mid kick stick that’s marketed for power shouldn’t be taking clappers? You do realize that that’s what mid kicks sticks are meant for right? Low kick is quick release. And my 200 pound alpha Atitude beer league skill is nothing compared to how guys that use the stick day in junior or college shoot the puck on snaps and wrist shots let alone clappers. That’s a really poor excuse. Add in the clear manufacturing defects as pointed out in this video with weak soft resin at the hosel where it broke and you have one shitty stick. And I’ll be polite and say making excuses for manufacturers shitty products is why they continue to do it. Throw in your Asv and lx pro both of those are not marketed for power at all. The Asv is now ccms “wrist shot” stick as per the product manager on ice warehouse and the lx line has been quick release for years. I’m not saying I’m, just saying you’re tKe isn’t correct have a look at trues insta
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I said: "heavy clappers" you said: "clappers" Big difference. A mid-kick stick doesn't break at a low-kick area unless you're using a lower flex than you should and then putting an extreme amount of tension on the stick like you did. Your review of the 9X, where it broke in the middle? You know, where the actual kick point is? THAT shot did not look the same as the one in this video. I've given sticks to buddies and told them to break it. You know what they do? They lean as hard as they can on the stick like you did taking a clapper in order to break it. Look, my beef here is you LOOK like you tried to break stick and then spent the rest of the video telling me that its the shitty because of the resin they use. You can't compare beer leaguers to guys who are getting their sticks for free. They take a shot and something feels off? Go grab a brand new one. Some pros go through multiple sticks in a game for a variety of reasons. They also have sticks that are built to their own specifications. They're also manufactured completely different. A beer leaguer can't just go grab a new twig every time something feels off. The AS2,3, and 4 were all built for power. That WAS their power line. They changed everything in the AS-V like you said. The Alpha line isn't just the LX Pro. The LX Pro is notorious for its durability issues, the Alpha LX? Its actually heavier because they concentrated more on durability and power INSTEAD of making a sub 400g stick. You buy retail, you not only are paying too much, but the quality (like you pointed out) is a gamble on every stick. I have a few guys I play with that are like you. They're insanely hard on their sticks and should be using a heavier, more durable stick, but every time get suckered in by the marketing, then wonder why these 370g sticks can't take the beating they put on them on a nightly basis. Think about all of the high end sticks you've reviewed and how many of them you complain about their "durability" even going after the CCM FT5 Pro in this same video and you did an ENTIRE video on the "myth" that high end sticks are durable. They are durable, for the right player. You? Probably not a good fit for how you play bro. It's just physics, plain and simple. I do agree that the companies are rushing to make these ultra light sticks and most are just gimmicks. The Agent stick was a gimmick. The "Proto-R"? Same thing. The Bauer Sling? TOTAL gimmick. Bauer and they're weird copy of the STX shaft and their 5 sided geometry? Another gimmick. I honestly would love to see you review sticks that can stand up to the punishment you can put on them instead of reviewing sticks that have ZERO chance of holding up to how you play with them.
@@darksaga80 look end of the day i do try and break sticks to test durability. why would i recommend a stick that breaks from manufacturing issues? They all break thats not what this is about, its about an issue how the stick is made? for context the 7x3 was no different and i used it in a NO SLAP shot league one game. True has durability issues because it has resin at the hosel area. The 9x does not. This is a new build and it is poorly done. Me calling true out for it helps those who buy the stick. Guess what? Industry insiders have told me true is working with the manufacturers to fix the issue because whoa turns out they found out it had durability issues. This is just shooting can you imagine checking in a high end game? Face offs? come on man what exactly are you trying to support here i dont get it.Im not trying to be rude here but i saw the resin issue as soon as i picked it up and posted about it on instragram because i use so many sticks i can see defects right away. 1000 bucks says mid cycle this changes and True fixes it. Trust me its got around to them. In regards to other sticks i think youre incorrect the Ft5 was durable. It was the ft3 and 4 that werent, again manufacturing issues. These are real problems not from use. Actual defects. Top end sticks can be durable. You mention my durability vid. The rekker E1 is the most durable ive seen with performance insane long lasting my original stick from that review is with a team mate who played center for a year with it and can shoot. stick companies cant send stuff to the market with clear issues and true did it with the 9x3. Its on them to fix it, i just report it.
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews my true catalyst 5x3 is in very good shape got it like at end of season so baseball season is coming up so will use it again when hockey begins overall it's a good stick and very hard to break
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews recommend to buy it if you want and if you do buy it you should do a review on it. It's pretty good for stick handling and toe drags
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews Well keep up the good work. Really surprised your channel is not HUGE? You give honest options and you know your shit. Quick question. My son is 13 5'8 165lbs uses agent P92 65flex. About to buy another agent (maybe new one) should he go to intermediate 70+flex? Kid is growing day by day lol. He was always hyperlite but loves the quick release with his Agent. Thanks Man
@@maxhepburn4522 it’s a slow grow that’s for sure. Guess subscription is slow. People view but don’t sub. I have 37k views on my flex video. I loved the agent in 70 flex. But I’m also a weight trained individual since I was your sons age and been playing for 15 years. I thought it was perfect combo of the quick release and easy load but still good power. Flex is really about how the stick is responding. If he is over powering 65 it’s probably time to jump up. By that it’s usually you can feel lag in shooting because your over flexing the stick. Although he weighs a lot at 13 unsure just how strong and developed he can be at this point. It’s a fine line. It’s probably a bit early but if you ask him how his shots feel, his strength and see how much he is flexing the stick you can probably decide what’s best the 65 or start going up
Unsure what you are getting at. I’m 205. Flex has zero to do with a sticks durability. Construction materials ( true uses brittle weak composites ) kick point construction and softness, and technologies determine stick durability. I have same durability in a 70 flex ft6 as I do an 85 flex one. But the true sticks construction is weak and has resin as the fuse point that is easily broken.
i'm sorry pal but you're wrong. I work in the industry. To exaggerate, If you are a full grown adult using a 55 flex its inevitably going to break very quickly. same rule applies if you're too big for a 75 flex. when you're a pro, no these rules don't apply because you get as many as you want, whenever you want. if you don't believe me, contact a true rep and ask them what flex they recommend for a beer league bum who weights 205 with absolutely no technique taking old school slap shots..... hope this helps @@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
buddy why delete the comment where i cook u with facts , yet leave your garbage reasoning up. You're review is flat out wrong and extremely bias. You know nothing about hockey sticks and you're terrible at the game. No stick with a mid kick flex 1/3 of your weight is going to withstand a 200 lbs man slapshot, let alone a slapshot with u12 house league technique. quit youtube or fix up u bum @@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
Not sure if serious.. you know zero about sticks how they are made and how they perform. Please stop. Go have a convo with all the NHL players using sticks in the 70 flexes. Sticks break because of construction not flex. And second I don’t delete comments nor give a fuck what you think
i work in the industry, therefore have conversations with NHL players daily... there's even some NHL, AHL and KHL pros that use 65.... they only do this because if it breaks they get a brand new one full custom with tailored kick points and sizing. Retail sticks are nowhere near the specs of what the pros use. Every significant NHL pro uses a dressed stick, with everything spec-ed out to their liking... weight, kick points, curves and flexes are all full custom. lads like you who think they know hockey are just ruining brands reputation because of your lack of knowledge and inability to properly shoot, so you lighten your flex thinking its the sticks fault. There's a reason you're a beer league bum pal. Probably had a long house league career in minor hockey now an old head - NHL freak trying to find fame on youtube. @@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
you seem to review a lot of different sticks so i think at this point you would know that a guy of your size and strength shouldn't be using a 75 flex, for any brand with your shooting style
A lot of NHL players use 75 flex, and they are in far better shape, and stronger, and more efficient at loading their stick. You're basically making the argument that the stick can't (and shouldn't) handle the load. Clearly it can't. I think reasonably it *should* be able to ... certainly for more than a game and a couple of shots.
I've found flex correlates most with height, it's a physics thing. I'm 5'8 200lbs hammer curl 45's (so I'm reasonably strong) 75 flex cut down a bit or even 65 flex work best for me (I've tried as heavy as 95 flex).
Gonna have to disagree. Most of the dudes these days are using 70 Or 65 even. And because I review a lot of sticks 75 right now is the sweet spot and sticks like ft6 pro, Asv, ft5, trigger 6 and 7, tMP, Lxpro, Rekker , pro stock, all held up at 75 now problem.
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews it's definitely the build. The fracture you show at 5:05 looks like a delamination (whereas the actual chip in the CCM looks like its from stick or skate contact).
