@@robindhood9125 I saw the UAW abandon over 400 workers in a wheel plant near the place I live at, back in the late 90s. They stopped paying them strike pay and never could negotiate a contract for their members, while their international built a golf course up north…
I put in my 2 weeks notice after 10 years of being a manager for a company. I ALWAYS worked overtime when needed and no one else would do it and hardly ever took time off. I put in my 2 weeks notice and all of a sudden they had an “investigator” (who wasn’t really an investigator after all) coming to talk to me to say that I did something I wasn’t supposed to do. They wanted me to admit it and write it down on paper. The only thing I wrote was “I DIDN’T DO SHIT!”. They said they had me on tape, but after I asked to see the tape, and threatened to get a lawyer, they left me alone and let me finish my last week there. MOTHER FUCKERS!!!
Such people have seemingly forgotten what they learned in their socialization and need a proper beat up. Those people have to be handled like thugs. They are even a danger to capitalism itself.
@@nicolewinters They were trying to make me essentially “look bad” To future employers. They were mad that I was leaving the company and they wanted to give me a bad reputation. You know, it looks really good to future employers when you put in a two weeks notice from a job. That way when they check your references they don’t tell your other job that you were fired for doing something wrong. I was accused of stealing something very very fucking stupid. And they wanted to fire me on the spot, or make me just abandon my job on the spot, instead of work my two weeks like you are supposed to do at a job. I have never stolen anything in my life, if I have it has been by complete accident, like if you forget to grab something small out of a shopping cart, like a Chapstick or something and you don’t realize it until you get to your car. Something like that that’s not on purpose I may have done that at some point. But I never ever stole anything from this company. They were just trying to bully me for no reason.
Yes! HR *IS* management! Their job is to keep management out of litigation. In my experience, I found them to be useless in advocating for employees. I found them to be a protective shield for the interests of the business/organization.
Be very careful telling the HR staff about serious personal problems as they will immediately tell your boss: Jane has such-and-such a problem. We should let her go now before your job performance deteriorates.
So all the suck-ups are safe? Companies wonder why their bottom line is failing? All those "yes" people are just hiding the truth and do not help any company move forward. You need to hear where the problems are from the people who are dealing with the problem.
If I was a boss, I would promote those who mention problem but also suggest solutions. Those are the employees who care the most about the company's success.
People need to realize that Human Resource is not there to mediate or even help you. Ask yourself, who is singing their checks every two weeks? Not you. So why would they help you?
It's very true. At my last job, the three HR women were catty, rude and as unprofessional as can be. They wouldn't have a clue on what it meant to advocate for employees and made it evident they kowtowed to the company's interests, even if it negatively affected their own.
@Mocha 777 TV I don't believe they were EVER the employee's advocate. In my view they only look out for what appeases the company and ensure employees are compliant lemmings without any talent to proffer constructive feedback. To me, HR is the most useless division in any company. Their aim to retain talent and promote efficiency can be delegated to other personnel as opposed to categorize an entire dept. into achieving this mission. If anything, non HR managers and staff are better equipped to accomplish HR's goals than the actual HR members, seeing how they conduct the daily operations and therefore know what's suficient to maintain employee satisfaction, where areas of improvement are of a necessity and how best to streamline policy for improved results.
HR in most companies are NOT your friend...I have been working in a hostile work environment, and when I filed a complaint they have made my life a nightmare!!!
This is so disgusting. This is exactly why the Federal Government needs to start mandating paid vacation, sick leave and maternity leave. Its big business worst nightmare.
Here's another tip, companies rarely ever give you a "stellar review", why you ask? Because you can ask for more money which is something they do not want to pay.
When I worked for this horrible company I was truthful and hard working. I disagreed with my manager about a minor thing and suddenly, more work is being piled on top of me, more scrutiny. And more write ups. Suddenly rumors started sprouting up and my co-workers started ostrcising me and bullying me. Of course, my mental and physical health would nosedive because of that. So it went downhill. Made the mistake of telling hr and things started going badly. The management and co-workers started accusing me of horrible and slanderous things such as laziness and terrorism. Bloody terrorism!?. So I threatened them with a lawsuit for defamation individually of all peoples involved. Got a hush contract and money to boot because I also threatened them with media coverage. The company is Farmers Trading Company, the holding company is James Pascoe Group. I'm out of the country, somewhere where their corruption can't get me and if 9ne of them is reading this: "You can kiss where the sun don't shine HR and the useless manager Sam, put me into any of your pathetic black list or whatever impotent show of your useless power over me can do. I own my business and expanding into an organization to expose and shame companies and individuals like you who abuse their power and abuse and exploit workers. No violence, Just legal and lawful justice. My silence is wholly dependent on me getting my money on time and you broke it first by being a week late. Hope you all go bankrupt and poor. Remember HR people can be usefull but instead chose to be HR. Never abuse somebody young and energetic. I never forgive and I never forget.
Right on!!!!!! My first job was horrible. The lady who tried to fire me was unpardonlely rude. What was worse was that she was a member of our church.Unfortunently my mom and dad backed her up. Our relationship went down hill after that! Later i visited my sister brotherinlaw in SF. I almost didnt want to leave. Later next year we were taking pictures for the church directory and my former boss and I were in the same room and I mad dogged her so badly she had to leave room!!!! AHHHHH!!!!! Revenge is sweet!
I showed up early for my interview in a suit and tie. The HR woman was 15 minutes late, came in, called my name and never introduced herself. She just said, "Follow me." I thought she may have been a runner and was asked to come out and get me. As we entered an office, she said this is where the interview would take place. As I sat down in the chair she took the other side of the desk. I still had no idea what position she held or what her name was as she started asking questions. I had to ask her what her name and position was halfway through the interview. She was not even dressed professionally, but in jeans and a pullover shirt for being a large corporation. I was dressed well enough that you would have thought I was in a high-ranking position with the company. I immediately knew this is not the kind of place I'd want to work for when HR looks and acts so unprofessional. These are usually the people a job interviewee is the first to meet, they should be making a phenomenal impression for themselves and the company. Yet, she has a job.
Lots of tacky, no-class, rude, unprofessional, morally bankrupt folks with good jobs...and it’s a damned shame. I hope you’re doing well now and doing work you love in an environment that suits you. Much Love to you, from a windy (tonight) San Francisco. 🌉✨🧡💙🤎
Lowe’s did this to me lol . They thought it was funny and smart . My attorney was smarter tho 😂 joke was on them . That was in 2008 and I’m still getting paid
Watching 10 years later and I have to admit that I was not considered for an internal transfer into HR because of "more qualified candidates" but I had 5 years of prior HR experience managing several programs... The kicker was I was pregnant and I knew there reason was BS. I went on maternity leave, enjoyed every moment and when I was scheduled to return from leave I resigned. F the healthcare network I worked for.
No matter what you do, you are a target . Companies want yes men . You can be the best performer and if don’t look the part or if you listen to the wrong music ( I listen to Metallica , Slayer etc ) they WILL find a way to fire you It happened to me recently.
What is really weird , is they do not like independent innovative employees . They have a formula employees have to follow , they want compliance only and will discourage creativity .
i believe i was lay'd off because i was pregnant, although I did not tell them I had visible symtoms like puking and had to go to the bathroom a bit more then usual. they said i was getting a promotion and went ahead and hired someone else for my position only to tell me that the new position created was no longer needed and they had to let me go.....
If you're job hunting, deactivate your facebook, make your instagram private. Make sure they can't look you up and judge you before they even meet you.
After 25 years doing software development, I “fired” the company for insubordination. They didn’t listen to my advice. Their idiocy cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars. They had to downgrade a product because they didn’t listen. Their stock price is now in the toilet.
I had FMLA and religion and Medical exemption I worked 5 to 6 hours off the clock for two year not compensated when I provided proof I was suspended the same day I provided as requested. I was then fired after working seven in half years for Medstar Health In Maryland
In current times, HR people are realizing the company is screwing employees. I've been screwed twice then the same HR people who delt with my issues resigned after what happened. I even talked to them and found out what they asked them to do was against the law!
I wish there were easier ways to prove wrongful termination. A company can simply say you were a bad employee. The real reason will not be revealed. You have to document everything that happens to you and have several witnesses to back you up; don't sign arbitration agreements. Hire a good lawyer.
Or do what they did to me upgrading my next medical they knew I wouldn't pass this in Australia me 65 I resigned in disgust they advertised for workers I put up a big warning hope they lost
I have NEVER trusted HR, there are a few good HR professionals but the vast majority are terrible and work in the interest of management, even if said management is corrupt/bullies etc.
My second cousin worked in HR as a 31 year old , they wanted 20 something women , maybe because they are more easily controlled . She was being groomed to leave , social rejection , sudden strange clannish behavior from other HR employees and bullying . She and her husband have no children , so I am thinking they did not like her independent innovative thinking and questioning their system was not allowed . She now works at home doing bookkeeping and making more money. What is happening in corporations is disgusting!
That last quip about "brown nosers" and "suck ups"... Check this out - I was consistently a top sales performer and my employer was dying to promote me to sales management. I saw through this. I knew that the company embraced a level of incompetence that was astonishing and I continually turned down their offers. But I saw that whomever flew the flag highest and shouted "Ooh Yeah!" the loudest would always get the promotions - regardless of their experience or talent. I tried for months to get fired by calling management on the carpet for their incompetence, always in private - never publicly. They refused to fire me! Day-um! I would love to share with you some of the hysterical discussions I had. End of story is that a few competent co-workers and I peeled off and started our own gig. Non-compete clause be damned - sue me, I dare you...
You seem unstable. If you actively tried to get fired, you are the issue. It literally takes 1 simple notice to your employer that you quit and you are good to go. The fact that you deliberately stayed at a company you can't stand working for is a sign of mental health distress.
no job offers that kind of longevity security kind of thing. thats where your employment rights and laws come in and protect you from toxic work places and unethical conduct.
And there are still people out there that think you should stay loyal to your employer. We are all there to provide a service with payment in return. And to be treated with respect
“…you want vacation time? Go teach third grade public school.” HAHAHAHA as a FORMER teacher, I’ve never had LESS vacation (and ZERO PTO) time as a teacher 🤣🤣
America sounds like a hellhole. I get 6 weeks paid holiday every year plus bank holidays (we have 17 of those In my region of Germany), I take 3 and sometimes 4 week holidays every year
So take the job abuse and discrimination. Don't worry about your health especially the mental health. You can play the game of kiss azz and your mental health will suffer greatly. So say something or suffer, the choice is up to you, GOOD LUCK people.
Cynthia thanks for this video; I have hired an employment attorney to fight against a mid size tech company. My new managers only had me for 2 months start writing me out and puts me on PIP and wants to terminate me.
Corruption is the norm ethics are how much can you get away with without breaking law . This is the corporate manifesto employee's are a needed evil ,not a valuable tool . it is that plain and simple , sorry after 50 years in the work world that is the bottom line for most of businesses out there.
Why hire people when you want to fire them? Just to show the government that the companies meet the legal compliances, most companies do hiring for show.
I really thanks youtube for all the educational viedos you guys put up. In a substitute I don't trust secretaries because they report to hr about my performance an I know someone is watching me at work. I'm aware of that. At least I choose my days an stuff. Hr is there to protect the company not us. I am keeping my business to my self I got friends out side if work don't need friends at work
I'm a retired HR Director. During my 25 years in HR I saw many things but we never did anything illegal nor unethical. Then again, I worked in the public sector. Maybe that is the difference. The public sector in my State was highly regulated and unionized. There were civil service regulations, collective bargaining agreements and administrative law to deal with so agencies were not so free to do as they pleased and HR professionals' primary responsibility was to represent the interests of the State as the employer so, although sometimes one felt one was walking on a tight rope, we were protected from retaliation by department and agency heads. End result...things were done on the up and up.
The suckups are gassed out by proper leadership. You gotta manage your company right if you want to grow both your capital and your rapor with people. The value exchange must be maintained and if natural procedures break down: employee resigns, time taken off, unsuccesful projects - these all need to be handled accordingly, learned from and improved and innovated upon. All the laws governing causality will bear on you if choose the get rich quick route. More than likely you're not skilled enough to bear with the slow problems, and they will ruin you. Those who like to gamble tho, feel free to try. Human existence is only fun when you know other people have it worse.
most people don't know about their rights and the laws that protect them. businesses are utilizing 100% of their company rights and protections and workers are falling right into line without realizing they have rights too in the work force.
If HR will work in its supposed purpose it would only to be as part of a legal govermental body repesentative and every company required by law to have it. Some type of a legal psychologist HR director
1:57 the "layoff list" is kind of necessary. When you do something that could get you fired for cause, but could also be ignored, it's a lot safer to put someone on that list. Almost any termination for cause can be contested with a lawsuit and companies like to avoid lawsuits. Even companies that have lawyers on retainer and liability insurance want to avoid lawsuits. So instead, they wait for the end of the fiscal year when the numbers may or may not show that they need to lay off people to cut payroll. Then, they lay off people. Some of them might be overpaid or redundant; but a lot of them will be on that list of assholes who should have been fired a long time ago; only this time, it's not a termination for cause that can be contested with a lawsuit; it's just a business decision and the laid-off individual can't sue for wrongful dismissal (maybe for unpaid wages or something like that but they can't say they shouldn't have been fired at all at that point). . It might not even be a "list" on paper or even in a digital file. Publicly-traded companies need to hold on to those for a few years. That means they could pop up in the discovery process of a lawsuit. It can just be a mental note and it doesn't have to be a mental note by anyone in the HR department. Every manager knows who the troublemakers, the disciplinary problems, or the low-performers are are on their team. They don't need to write that down to remember it because it's always on their mind. Then all it takes is for management to look at the end-of-year audit, discover how much more profit they could make (or how much more money they could re-invest in the company, say with a major IT project) if they cut $X.XX from their payroll, and out goes the email to the HR department and all the managers: "your team's payroll is $Y.YY and you need to cut $Z.ZZ from it by the end of the month. Make a list and send it to HR." Of course the manager is going to write down the names of the people whom they've been wanting to see gone for months, and now the list is official. . The solution: don't be perceived as a troublemaker, a disciplinary problem, or a low-performer. And if you are and you can't avoid it, work on changing your job before the fiscal year ends, because someone is already thinking of putting your head on a platter and you won't gain anything from it.
