I love this show. What was Liz's son saying to Kali? I just heard him say, listen, tell my mom... but then I couldn't hear the rest. What if the contaminants from the water are causing people to hallucinate. So the scientists just scared themselves to death. As far as "she being awaken" what if that's just a cross between the containments and the microbes being researched. What if the reason Annie was dating the scientist was to get intel to help activists really learn what was going on?

The same thing happened over on “think story“… But I didn’t even have close captions on, and I knew he was whistling “Twist and Shout” I kind of wish close captions didn’t give everything away that way it would be more of a mystery.

Yall need to start watching with the cc on! When Liz and Navarro confronted wheeler he was whistling twist and shout! Liz expression makes sense when you go back to her turning the song off in that house and maybe what Liz heard in the fridge was her son, remeber when Navarro fell on the ice Liz son said tell my mom. And Navarro hospital scene could have been in her head.

When Navarro hits her head on the ice, she hallucinates about being in Afghanistan again (wrecked armored car in background), then she is approached by the child. The words on his pajamas are spelled backwards. I think Annie getting a message from Lund before he dies might be another hallucination.

He asks Navarro “do we [want Clark brought in alive]?” in a kind of skeptical/smirky tone-I think he knows the last time Navarro and Danvers worked a case together, the perp wasn’t brought in alive; one of them killed him. I have not paid that close attention to notice the snow melt off their boots, but if its not an oversight by the show production, its probably because there is less overall vehicle pollution there to make the snow dirtier? I am also originally from Wisconsin and the winters there is just one layer of snow accumulating on top of another layer and after a few weeks the snow on the side of the road looks like geological stratification with all of the various layers of dirty snow.

I'm not sure which one of the women shot Wheeler, but they definitely did. It parallels the scene in season 1 when Marty kills Ledoux when they find the kids in the cargo container. Marty and Rust covered that up together, and agreed the keep to the story regardless of the state of their friendship. Same seems to apply here. I'm inclined to believe it was Navarro. It explains why Liz transfered her, why Liz felt comfortable lying to Peter about what happened, and why she's not afraid that Navarro will tell anyone, even when it's clear Navarro really dislikes her but still gravitated to Liz when she wants to push forward to solve Annie's case. I think Hank might know more, too. We'll find out!

as per Subtitles: Twist & shout tune is heard: * when Danvers is at the frig (it's distorted) * Wheeler whistles it. * Navarro hears it (female voice) when on the ice she sees a child in distance/slips & hits her head. Ever since GOT, I've used subtitles, they give more info: sometimes it's off screen conversations or sounds, inaudible clues etc...

Notice how many times Danvers refers to Prioirs civilian helpers as “hillbillies”. Don’t think that is a random term she’s using, and it’s not fitting for people (non-native American) from the area. It’s the Pacific Northwest. i think these men are workers that have been recruited to work in the mine & (Tuttles workers from down south) are also helping to keep things in order according to whatever the Turttle enterprise is really up to.

That Wheeler guy (the bad, bad man sitting in the chair on Liz & Evangeline’s last case) was whistling “Twist & Shout”! I believe he was taunting Liz… & I think Liz did him in & Navarro wasn’t okay with the cover up. There is more to that song besides just her little boy loving it. Maybe reason she hates that song is because her son’s death, (possibly Leah’s father as well) wasn’t an accident & it was a nefarious set up to make it look like a drunk driving accident! & maybe whoever was behind the “accident “ rigged it to be playing on repeat to give Liz some kind of a sick warning… What do you think?! I’m loving this show this season! It’s especially great getting to see your excellent weekly breakdowns!!! Thank you Elliott!

I’ve been thinking a lot about out Wheeler and I think we’re meant to assume that Danvers (already demonstrating her willingness to bend the rules) shot Wheeler and demanded that Navarro help her cover it up. But I wonder… what if it was Navarro who shot Wheeler. Seeing him cracking a smile triggered her hatred and she unloaded. Danvers, showing that she actually has a heart, concocts a story but because she’s ambitious, she is behind Navarro’s demotion. I don’t know why this means so much to me compared to all the other far more interesting storylines but I find their dynamic really fraught and real. It’s just tremendous acting from both characters. They are amazing.

"...how the hell do you explain this..." regarding Nevarro seeing the scientist talk...well, IMO, it should be obvious there's different possible explanations. If the writers are going with supernatural, then she may see the dead, or has 'visions' from spirits etc. and that could explain why her mother and sister have had 'mental issues,' in that they possibly had the same abilities, but were mistakenly diagnosed with mental issues, or those visions actually drove them insane. If the writers are going to go with scientific explanations, then Nevarro may share mental issues that her mother and daughter have. And don't forget, she took a spill on the ice and hit her head and had visions a bit before this scene, which could also contribute to this. There's also the mine and scientists' ice coring either or both of which could be doing something to the local water that would contribute to hallucinations, the several references to people seeing the dead, having visions, etc.
@Miskatonic1927
@Miskatonic1927 7 месяцев назад
Yep, exactly. Everything the viewers have seen can still easily be explained by non-supernatural means. All "supernatural" occurrences have only ever been seen by one character at a time... which is easily explained away by mental health issues, or over active imaginations from the constant darkness, or Navarro having a possible head injury, or the water being contaminated by some ancient biological organism that is affecting people's minds, and so on.

Thank you for sharing your insights. Wow, I loved this episode. Is it me or did this ep seem to have a slower, more deliberate pacing, and more of the lingering shots of the North Country landscape? All this to say, this was a great episode that continues to move the story significantly forward but also managed to give us the fullest picture into the inner lives of Danvers and Navarro. This is so brilliant and Issa Lopez is setting a new high bar for dramatic series. FWIW thought it was really interesting that Lopez references in the HBO pod, the Dyatlov Pass incident from the 1959s and it’s a really fascinating true story with some noteworthy parallels to North Country. Highly recommend if you’re looking to block off a 2-hour “work meeting” on your calendar.

Idk if this will make sense since I’m still working out how best to put my perspective into words but I don’t think the “subplots” are forced at all, or that they are even subplots to begin with. In my opinion, each character’s arc is a piece of the puzzle that when put together properly, completes the picture that is the main plot. All of their arcs are very obviously connected, intricately interwoven with each other. The events that shape who each character is, what their motivations are, and what they do are like dominos falling into each other. To further explain, I think that what happened to one character caused the events that happened another and so on, like all of their traumas are linked together, if that makes sense. We just don’t know exactly how they all fit together yet since we are smack dab in the middle of the show. But as we find out more about everyone’s past, it’ll become more obvious. We will see how their pasts fit together and see how the end of all of their arcs will result in a resolution.

Feels like its setting up for that. I dont love the pacing at all. Gonna rewatch epi 3 tonight, but I think the "mystery" at the core is interesting if they can keep it grounded. Tuttle and the mine working to poison the people of the town in order to unleash an evil they found under the ice/town is a cool plot, but a) doesn't feel "true detective-y" and b) needs more exposition/rising action to really make it land. The idea of the lady owning the mine as the blue king (queen) working with the yellow king (tuttles) is cool but its relying too much on pizzolatos season 1 stuff imo. ORIGINALITY PLZ. @@MovieFiles sorry for the rant.

Unfortunately this Season seems to be a rip off of "Fortitude", (Spoiler: Virus infection from a Mammoth that thaws out in Svalbard in Arctic Norway & sends everyone crazy!) which, incidentally, also starred Christopher Ecclestone. The only mystery is who killed Annie & Hank/Henry is pretty much the main suspect. After all he buys Foreigners from the Web to be his Wife!!!

If the "Spiral Symbol" is a sign of Paedophile Gangs (see Season 3 Episode 7, also suggested in Season 1) & doesn't appear in Season 2 in any way (or did I miss it?), how does this impact Season 4's story? I appreciate it has many meanings in common tales: rebirth, circle of life, etc, etc, so please don't throw these at me!

Are movies easter eggs or clues?? This season so far The Deer Hunter Star Wars (Also in season 1 ,2 and 3) Ferris Bueller's day off Vegas Vacation the Godfather Old Yeller ET The Shining The thing the exorcist the Blair Witch project The Graduate The Dayotlov pass incident. THE ACCUSED was reenacted by Jody Foster herself Annie??? because the sun will come out tomorrow? I thought the polar bear reminded me more of a Coca Cola commercial at Christmas, rather then an evil omen. And we are only on episode 3 There was an ode to Woody in season 1 where they show and later Marty wears the big belt buckle that his character won in "The Cowboy Way" in which he starred with Kieth Sutherland. The Godfather was in there too and Hardcore These are NOT eastereggs, but overt clues to the entire series

The quality of a story that relies so much on connections to and Easter eggs towards more infinitely interesting stories that are beloved by most for their novel concepts and characters is always questionable.

I suggest that you use the word "as" less. If you substitute "while" or "because" for this word, it would be easier for viewers to follow your train of thought. Remember to end your sentences, rather than adding "as" and continuing on to a different subject.

I really didn't think people would be triggered by the supernatural elements in this season. I thought the first season hinted that a bit, making it vague if it was real or in Rust's head. Plus Carcosa and the King in Yellow are well known among Lovecraftian fans. #liz&navarro
