Thank you so much for all of your videos. I have been freehand sharpening for a few years. Since watching your vids I now have a black & hard from Dan’s and just yesterday got my first True Hard. I absolutely love the True Hard so far. I can’t wait to see how much better my edges will be. So far I’ve only used it on ZDP189. But I am so happy with the results!

Im one of those collector types. Ive got a big pile of different waterstones because I wanted to try different brands of them, and now thanks to you a slowly growing collection of arkansas. I used to get better edges back when all I had was a course DMT, a set of spyderco ceramics and a strop but I always want to try out different types of stones. So sharpening for me has become more about exploring different types of stones instead of pursuit of the perfect edge.

Great one! Absolutely spot-on! I told Mary at Dan's that you are one of the best promoters they have! They know it! True hard was on my bucket list....but I got sidetracked when Mary told me that she had talked to the production manager and they had an 8X3X1 Washita.....and I nailed it. She also let a cat out of the bag about "availability" when it comes to Washitas.. and, I suspect it applies to true hards, also. Dan's is not going to mail a Washita to you unless it meets their standards! That says it all. Can't wait for that stone to come. She said, two weeks. I've had good luck with getting Dan's stones from Taylor Tool Works ....I've got Amazon Prime and saved some $$$....I got a 6X2X1 soft/hard combo for the shelf over the sideboard for touching up paring knives and such....it's super. But, I noticed when tracking shipment, that Taylor has ditched Amazon Prime....just thought I'd put that out there. And Amazon has been monkeying with USPS tracking...making themselves look good for their "guaranteed delivery". So: Better to order directly from Dan's! And thanks for mentioning Mike Baker....I'd seen him in my feed but I just thought he was a razor sharpener until I checked further. I just dumped a bunch of subscriptions...you know who one of them was...but I enjoy Mike....down to earth and basic (where I am!LOL!). And, you are absolutely right about downsizing and listening to your stones talk to you. I've got a Dan's 8X2X1/2 hard that's my security blanket.....it tells me where I've screwed up.....by feel and sound. Now that the weather is good and I have sunlight, I'm going to beat myself to death with bevel-setting 101! Dont know how it's happening but you've been coughing up videos that I needed NOW. By the way.. .Grizzly & Yuengling....we'll get along fine. Got to make a trip to Crossville one of these days.. . .with Yuengling Black & Tan.....!LOL! Cheers, Wayne

For the lighting what you (and I) really need is a diffusser. Something to go between the light source and the subject matter that will soften the light and make it more even. You are the FIRST person I have seen on RU-vid that discovered Dan’s ‘Magic’ True Hard stone!! I bought a 4x2x1 seven years ago from Dan and about crapped my pants when I opened it, and when I first used it!! Mine looks just like the middle part of yours, gray with white tiger stripes. THEN I about crapped my pants when I saw this video!! You won the lottery with that 10x2x1! It’s always been my hope to have one of every stone Dan offers in 10x2x1! Also went through the whole ‘Best Sharpening Stones & Natural Sharpening Stones’ as you have. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to Dans Quality!! Just wish I’d discovered Dans first! 😊👍 Great videos! Keep up the good job!

Love your channel! Your channel is the reason I got Arkansas stones. We have a saddle shop and before we got the Arkansas stones we struggled with keeping a sharp edge on our knives. I confess my black is from sharpening supplies, but I have a combo stone that is a soft and hard from Dans as well as a translucent. My normal progression is soft, hard, translucent then black. I haven’t noticed much difference between the translucent and the black. Is the translucent just a “pretty” version of the hard Arkansas?
@roughroosterknifesharpenin5531

What's up Rough Rooster, and knife sharpening faithful! I just thought i would introduce myself and comment myself, i am gathering that your name is Chris from some comments i had read in earlier post's. My name is Rick and i have been checking out some of your videos, and i must say you do a great job and i enjoy watching a strait forward, honest, no BS approach to what i would say, a very informative piece to a knife addicts arsenal! Thank's Chris for what you are doing and i enjoy watching and i try to soak up all that i can, because even as a knife maker myself for several years, in my opinion you never stop learning! Anyone who tells you they know everything, to me tells me just how ignorant they really are! I now only make a knife every now and then because i have found out just how much i love sharpening knives! To the point that i get in such a ( trance ) almost Zen and peaceful state of mind i can't hardly describe it! If you love sharpening like i do, you know where i am coming from. I am trying to start a sharpening business in South Bama! I have made the first of many purchases of stones that i have enjoyed for months now, the DMT DuoSharp 10" ( water and dawn only ). I only wish i had gotten the DiaSharp ones instead. Pros and Cons to any stone i guess but none the less, since i started watching your vid's, i am going the Dan's stones direction! With a ceramic or 2 mixed in to LOL! Keep up the great work Chris! Be in touch soon in comment section and its nice to see your vid's because there is soooo much garbage out there! Thanks Bro!!
