Sorry to hear you guys didn’t get copies. Amazon sent me The Abyss and True Lies on release date, Aliens was delayed. I ended up ordering it on Walmart only to have Aliens arrive 2 days later. Ended up sending the other Aliens back to Walmart. As far as the transfers all 3 have been worked on or “enhanced”. I think the transfers for Abyss and Aliens look fine but True Lies is noticeable awkward when it comes to faces. They look waxy, very much like T2.
For me, True Lies is the greatest action comedy of the 1990s. People need to take Arnold and Cameron more seriously. You all could learn so much about framing from watching every shot of almost every Cameron film. His movies are made the way they are for a reason. And i think Arnold shows more depth and versatility in True Lies than any other movie.
I have the True Lies 4K, and it is somewhat frustrating. On one hand, it is absolutely the best option for home viewing, because there is no blu-ray for True Lies domestically. On the other, skin is too processed and waxy looking, and it could have been better if they simply hadn't DNRed it to death. The Abyss is a very good transfer IMO. Aliens is still on its way to me, so no comment.
Since I got all 3 for review I can safely say that True Lies looks the worst of the bunch. Not offensive but definitely overdone in regards to the processing. Some things look too blurry. Some things look overdone. Some things can look waxy. Some things can be overly washed out. On the flip side some scenes look amazing. The striptease scene, the nighttime scenes on the island are really well done. The ending too. So it just depends on
You guys don't get free discs???!! That's b.s.!! There are clowns 🤡 on RU-vid that get disc's that don't come anywhere near what you guys produce....keep up the great work!!
Actually Arnold Schwarzenegger found the French film and took it to James Cameron and asked him if they could make an American version of this film, because Arnold really enjoyed the French film so much... F.Y.I.
It looks like you guys are using clips from the 4k scan here on your review. Wow, this scan looks like a hot waxy mess! I'm voting with my dollar and passing on this.
I was never a huge fan of True Lies. Watched it when it was in the theaters but after that I had no interest in returning. It was right after Arnold made Last Action Hero, which I actually enjoyed more because it was almost parody. James Cameron to me seems like an arrogant guy who doesn’t take criticism well. I will always enjoy Aliens and T2 but I am really shocked that a lot of people really liked The Abyss and True Lies so much.
