Turner field was in a terrible location and traffic was exponentially worse. I admit, not being within a few miles of the airport can leave some frustrated when we are limited to hotel gouging, but theres no denying location for access and now a hugely improved social district is far better.

Turner Field was a nightmare traffic wise, which was causing a dip in attendance, as people weren't coming out to games, additionally ot needed 350 million dollars in structural, and internal upgrades, hence why they decided to move

As a Atlanta Braves fan since the days of Fulton County stadium in the 1960's I was so happy to see this new park, It is beautiful and in a much better location being right on I285, I live in east central Georgia and find it is so much easier to get in and out of the area now. In the old days at Fulton County stadium and Turner field, there was nothing around that area really to do after the game, the whole concept of the battery with all the restaurants is great and all the amenities in the area make it so you don't really have to leave after the game to eat or whatever. Our favorite restaurant there is Superica. Thanks for the info about the places closing after the game in the Battery, I never really looked into that. We usually go to day games on the weekends and never saw any of the restaurants closed afterward. Also I never knew about many of the places you were showing cause we usually get the tickets and sit in the same area every time.

I went to my first braves game in 1996 at Fulton county stadium I went to my second game in 98 at Turner Field went to two other games at Turner Field the only thing that I would say that this ballpark does not have to put it over the top the homerun wall that Henry Aaron hit 7:15 over when they built Turner Field is still stood and that's one thing they cannot transfer to this new location but other than that even though Turner Field was only 20 years old it was definitely time for a new stadium it's a beautiful stadium I can't wait to go to the game there

Turner Field was literally in the hood, and there would be homeless people roaming around harassing you as you walk to your car. Truist Park is leagues above the old stadium. There was nothing to do around Turner Field. No restaurants or anything. The Battery isn’t even comparable to the surrounding area of Turner Field because there was nothing to compare to

what a slam job. Sorry we did had to move out of Atlanta. We can tell how much it pissed you off. Also, stadium holds 41084. Average for all MLB stadiums is 42,675. So its only 1500 less than the average stadium. The long lines are because we sell out almost EVERY game!
@BlockingThePlate
@BlockingThePlate 2 года назад
The average game attendance was 28,746 in 2021. "Sold out almost every game." Sure. The Atlanta Braves had larger attendance per game every year from 2005-2014. The Braves averaged between 30,000 to 32,000 their first 3 years at SunTrust/Truist. Their 38,000 per game average in 2022 isn't even in the Top 5 for their attendance. And no, their long lines are because of poor planning for concessions to attendance ratio, and their dependence on the Battery, which they likely own anyway.

All these parks should be privately financed. It is kind of crazy to read a lot of the pro-Truist comments here. Are none of these folks Cobb County taxpayers? All the taxes used on the Braves could have been used to maintain the current Cobb County infrastructure. In contrast the Cardinals stayed downtown and then built Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village with private financing. It ended up fixing the area around the ballpark. Also it’s kind of frustrating to see narrow concourse parks still built in this era.
@BlockingThePlate
@BlockingThePlate Год назад
I don't mind tax dollars going towards some of the financing on new parks and ballpark maintenance. The jobs and attendance that sports franchises bring to those areas is substantial, and ultimately benefit the city/county they're in. But I certainly agree that ownership should be responsible for a lot of it.
@ryanfraley7113
@ryanfraley7113 Год назад
@@BlockingThePlate If Cobb County had asked the Braves for private financing, that would be nearly a billion they could use on a MARTA extension to that area along with infrastructure improvements to make vehicular access easier. I suspect a lot of the people coming out of the woodwork to defend the way this stadium was built would be opposing a MARTA extension to Cobb County. Never mind that everyone would be way better off under the alternative plan laid out here, instead there would be a lot of dog whistling about why the MARTA extension shouldn’t go through, even if the Braves themselves backed the plan.

@@ryanfraley7113 Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta generated more than $38 million in combined tax revenue during the 2022 fiscal year. The $38 million includes $9.4 million allocated to the Cobb County Board of Education to provide students with the education they need and deserve. $15.8 million went to the State of Georgia to improve infrastructure, fund law enforcement agencies, and more. Truist Park is now net positive for Cobb County taxpayers
@ryanfraley7113
@ryanfraley7113 Год назад
@@ruttyjones2230 Is that $38 million more than the interest payments on Truist? I am not sure this changes any view I have on Truist compared to ballparks that have been privately funded like Busch or Oracle, not to mention privately funded renovations of historic parks like Fenway or Wrigley. Compare to publicly built parks like Guaranteed Rate Field that end up being economic sinkholes for the cities that build them. Also a lot of the surrounding infrastructure investments in suburbs like this end up being very difficult to maintain, look at the work that Strong Towns does on that. But even if Truist is positive in tax revenue compared to interest payments, that means that Liberty Global, the owners of the Braves that also own assets like Formula 1, could absolutely have financed this on their own and made more long term revenue with private financing. Not to mention the lack of public transport nearby makes it more difficult for lower and middle class fans to attend.
@ruttyjones2230
@ruttyjones2230 Год назад
@@ryanfraley7113 I don’t know enough to address those aspects. I was just responding to your claims it’s hurting the tax payers. It’s been met positive for Cobb tax wise, education wise, and infrastructure wise.
@andrewdrichardson

As an Atlanta fan, I miss a downtown park. Location serves only season ticket owners, who are white and affluent, stadium is only here for them. Cobb County tax payers will suffer for years and will lose a billion dollars when the Braves move the ballpark again. There's no public transit connection which is a crime, MARTA needs a NW line to TP or else the Braves can change their name to Cobb County Braves because its a stressor getting to a game. The stadium is a local politics rush job with tight concourse areas that become congestion corners during peak crowds which shows how fast they approved these designs, no thought. It's a cookie cutter design that pulls from other Populus designed stadiums while recreating Turner Field in a compact style. The most disgusting oversight by the Atlanta Braves Organization is the statue of Henry Aaron behind Home Plate being flanked by integral concrete pillars. Hank should have his own building dedicated to him in a separate rotunda on a mountain, not an after thought of a location. The GOOD things about TP is there is no bad seat in the stadium. The seats tier over each other to provide best visibility. A downtown park is what Atlanta needed connected to established public transit, and the Braves failed its fans in favor of the short game of catering to deep pocketed whites.

@@JimRPickens According to the 2021 ACS, 89.9% of Cumberland is white and only 5.82% are black. Downtown ATL is 47.2% white and 33.6% black. So me speculating that the Braves moved to a primarily white/affluent demographic is driven by factual data and not generalizing that black people 'don't have money'.
