TRULY INDESCRIBABLE | The Beginner's Guide 

For me, this game was more than just an experience; it's a connection that I never wanted established. Davey's actions really connected to the things I've done to someone in the past, and I didn't want those things to be brought back up. And as much as I tried correcting it, I only ended up worse than I started off and I just absolutely hated that feeling and that place. I never knew that a game like this could portray something like that. It was like a slap in the face from my troubles of the past. And since I'm an small game developer myself, I knew that some themes in games had an impact on others, but I could never feel a direct impact from any game... not until now.

This is a game that really changes based on the commentary. I have such a different perspective on it after watching you play now.

I love how when I scroll into the comments, I see inspirational comments and thank you notes. Its awesome and so nice, it makes my heart feel fuzzy and warm.

I have a difficult time feeling so much extreme emotion to fictional environments. I don't cry for tragedies, i don't typically laugh at comedies ect. I certainly feel something for such works, just not that much. But what does get to me is seeing real emotion. Watching a comedy with friends who are laughing will get me laughing, and watching a girl cry while playing a game will help me get close to my own waterworks. I'm sorta not sure where I was going with this comment, so I'll just say thank you Emily for playing that for us, and for letting us see a little more of what makes you you. If I could I'd give you a hug. half because thats what you do when people cry, and half because now i feel like i could use one lol. Stay awesome

R is most likely Robin who was Davey’s roommate in real life, Davey during a conference once said that Robin said a similar thing to him, the thing about being physically ill when around him. This game is most likely both an apology to robin and a form of personal acceptance and forgiveness, a way of showing that despite everything he’s not unforgivable. Because robin saw the game. And he liked it.

I know this is an old video and no-one will probably notice this but thank YOU, Emily. You are a beautiful and lovely person. This might seem a bit crazy but I have a drawing I did of you in my room. And this kinda says that when you turn off the camera, you don't leave us because your videos and what you have said stays in our minds. That drawing reminds me that I can always turn on one of your videos and be happy, even if you are not, just because you are there. Thank you very much and please remember you are never alone :)

Never be sorry about crying. Never. Crying always, always, always helps. I do it when it comes at me. I've watched a tonne of playthroughs of this game from many others and I do cry. Every time. Just finished watching the video. I'd like to say this to you, Emily. You are an awesome person. Funny, talented, beautiful, and just an all around really genuine person. And, the fact is, that's also what I and perhaps many others want to hear as well. I put off watching this when it went up because I didn't have 2 hours to devote to it, then I just forgot. I honestly don't know what made me come back to it. All I know right now is that I just hurt, and it's not your fault. I don't want that to sound like I'm blaming you. It's just that everything past the "external validation" part fucked me up so bad. Like, I know that too well. I honestly feel like at this point in life I don't do anything for myself anymore. I seek validation from everyone else and for them to tell me I'm worth something and 99% of the time I don't get it.. and that hurts. So bad. I wish I knew how to see the success in my own work but I just can't. My outlets are gone because I have no one to share it with. Music. Drawing. It's just gone. I feel trapped by it every single day. To an extremely concerning degree. When you think about it theres nothing to be sad about. What someone has made is there choice to express it or not and some guy he met was like "bruh, share it". Thank you for making this. It's a very different kind of "game" in that it's not really a game at all, it's art or like a journal. Your very real self-reflection only added to it, and in a different way than normal. I've watched your Stanley Parable playthroughs and some of your other videos, and they're always very jokey and bouncey. So it was pretty cool to see you get out of your comfort zone and take on this very real game.

This game make you question everything in your life... I need to cry right now.

Sometimes you can't help somebody. Sometimes you just have to hope that they'll be ok on their own. It's scary when you can't protect the people you care about, but you just have to have faith that they'll get through it on their own. You can't protect somebody from everything, otherwise they'll never grow or learn. It's alright to let go every now and then. If you hold onto someone for too long, you end up suffocating them, or smothering them, and you destroy the very thing you tried so hard to protect. And don't be too sad when you feel like nobody can help you, or nobody understands you. Maybe it's because you don't fully understand yourself. Maybe it's because you're not really committed 100% to helping yourself. You have to believe in yourself, and believe that you deserve to be happy. Trust me, I've been there. I've felt so alone, I swear I could throw up. But I didn't. I got over it. Eventually. You can too. Whoever you are. Emily, me, or anybody else reading this. There are people out there waiting for you to get better. Nothing means more to them than your wellbeing. So fight through the darkness and depression. Fight for your friends, fight for your family, but most of all... fight for yourself. With all the people around today, NOBODY should be lonely.

Emily, ive gone trough some shit, ive lost my job, my home, the love of my live and ive been very lonely since ive lost her for a long time and i can really understand what this "game" means and why you were so upset at the End, i just wanted to say that you are wonderful, you are smart, very charming and sooo beautiful. Dont let yourself down, you are a good person. This also goes out to everybody that doesnt know if its worth to live anymore and it is! If you have a rough time it just lets you stand up stronger than you where before, never give up. I think that if a person sees no other chance than to commit suicide thats very sad and the biggest mistake everyone could do. Emily, I watched this walkthrough on another person's channel but loved it so much, I decided to watch one with another perspective, and I'm very glad I did. You delved into the thoughts that I was thinking while watching it the first time, and you offered so many new thoughts to it this time watching it. At first, I wasn't sure the game would get to you as much as it did for me, but I can see now that you totally felt it. My outlet is art and music, and I know how it feels to have had the external validation to make you feel good, but then have it taken away from you. Still watching it... At the start, I 'hit' me I understood what the narrator ment. Different emotions can create different games. That is what makes games unique to books and/or movies. There are a lot of reasons why games can have more emotions,when you think. Think what was the creator thinking, and when you start playing the game, there are more clues to his/her original emotion while making this. You can picture the creator's emotion through a game.(sometimes) Yes,you can't physically see and/or read their emotion but, you would have to find missing pieces to the puzzle. And this is how I see this game, a interactive explanation of emotion and what it creates.And also see Coda's mindset works into his games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit:I understood what the prison meant.It meant that he was trapped in a spiral depression.He felt lonely,sad and the only way he could express his feelings was through making a image of his feelings.The prison was suppose to be him trapped in his state.*sighs* I understand so much ........It hurts.... Emily, you don't have to believe any of the complements or anything else if its too hard to. I myself struggle with accepting such kind words from people as well so i know where your coming from there, however i think your problem as far as that goes is that your too close to the puzzle to see the picture that is forming. even after i watched jack play this game, and now you as well, I can't stop crying afterwards. it's really amazing how this game can resonate with so many different people. This video it reminded me that I am nothing and I will never be anything. But I am proud of what i've done. I hate myself because of what i've done. I love the things i've done. I regret things i've done. Even if what i've done doesn't affect the outside world. I am proud of what i've done. I kinda hope this gets lost in these comments but I feel like i need to say this. What Emily said at the end kinda hurts me. She really does deserve all the complements and love we give to her. And i don't this she realizes that as the thoughts of "why can I be like this person, or why can't I be good enough" are the exact thoughts of some of her fans. She also doesn't realize that I'm a 14 year old girl who hates herself and she's my idol. She's every thing that I want to be when I get older. When I see similarities between me and her, it makes me not hate myself as much, when people say that I kinda laugh like her or we sing similar it makes me like myself. By the way, a Coda is an alternate ending in a piece of music which causes the player to go back to the beginning and play until they see the Coda symbol and proceed to the alternate ending. Just thought this would explain the name Coda.

Whenever someone says they want to know what goes on inside the head of a [insert creative artist role here], speaking as an author of a novel that revolves around actual eighteen year olds, not Rowling et al's idea of eighteen year olds, I can tell you. You do not want to know. Eighteen year old me bawls his eyes out at Harry Nappy And The Nappy Pushers, and often imagines one of the more intelligent members of the cast from Fast Times At Ridgemont High striking a deal with Pinhead, a la Hellraiser: Hellseeker. Now, having said all of that, I am so glad I found this video after all of these years. I do not follow the channels of many people, and yours is really the only one that I can watch videos from without the fear of getting pissed off at you for saying something incredibly ignorant. (For a negative example, I stopped following what was a really great film commentary channel because the asshole told us "[character] struggles with his diabetes" whilst the onscreen action is the worst possible depiction of someone almost injecting heroin.) I could not play The Beginner's Guide because I know I am a horrible person. I only want to make this clear because I write all the time about people that are better than (and worse than) me. You remind me of two of them, or more accurately what would happen if we took features of the two and smooshed them together. Your channel is a light in the life of a person for whom "before you see the light, you must die" is not a piece of song poetry, it is fact ninety-nine percent of the time. Please do not ever forget that.

Isn't that what we all want? To be reassured? I loved the video, and the game (when I played it). If you liked this game, I think you'd like Gone Home, To the Moon, or Ether One. They all have puzzles in them as well, but they're really easy, except Ether One which has very complex puzzles but they're mostly for side objectives.

This is the 3rd time I'm watching this (I've watched this with Jacksepticeye and The Bowling Otter Show) and it still resonates so much! I love how each viewing gives me greater insight into, not just the game, but the RU-vidrs playing them. It's interesting to see how everyone draws meaning out of them and how it relates to them personally >w< EDIT: I'd just like to say - you're doing awesome, Em. :) Every little bit matters; we all have our ways of handling things in life. About a year later Honest if anyone reads this I don't know what I'm saying, and Emily if you read this I was trying to make you not think at all that I think I'm in love with you, and it kinda just makes it creepier.
