The very fact of Trump's convistion is not so damaging to him as the election ramifications. First, the appeals will take time sufficient to drag feet on for a long period. At the end, in the worst situation, it may be just fine. What is really disturbing for Trump is losing his voters for the conviction. Some of them have already announced that the conviction, if any, will influence their choice.

A happy day for the American people. The law was respected. Democratic freedom has been proven. No person, no government, is above the law in America. All US citizens must strictly follow and practice the country's constitution.
Yet Biden, Bush, Obama, Clinton, and the rest of that cesspool of criminals in Washington all get away with starting illegal wars, unconstitutional policies, lying under oath, abuse of power etc. So it seems to me if you’re part of the club then you’re above the law. Trump hasn’t been part of the club on either side and that’s why this has happened.
