Ask Maggie why she refused to cover Obama shutting down a DEA investigation into Hezbollah drug trafficking or why he allowed a group of Russian generals and Saddam Hussein's favorite nuclear scientist the no bid contract to run the Port of Canaveral, Florida.
If only our MSM could cover Joe as they did with Trump. President Obama arrested 11 reporters over 8 year's. there is no reality in the 21st century. oh well
I am a Brit living in the UK. We enjoy a free press. I have however always admired the press in America. Now in Trump’s America, I value your press even more. You don’t have a truthful or ethical Republican Party working as a check on your President, so your press is all you have. Value them, treasure them, encourage them. They are the only vehicle you have to stop America’s descent into a dictatorship. So bravo American Press, be proud, the rest of the free world is with you.
Free press...hmmmm ...yeah, they really have their act together in the UK... riots are all just for fun...good times ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-irhQtamQ6Mo.html
@@sandrafriesen8041 you seriously can't distinguish between paparazzi and journalists? really? that seems so discouraging. The "anti-Christ" is easily recognized, for he HATES everything Jesus mouthed when he in danger of being publicly stoned. He quoted Psalm 82 (in John 10:34). Well Trump's blood hungry base now murder me. . . just for quoting the Bible? I am a "Gold Star" family member (my brother, who I shared the same birthday with, was lost while on active duty with the USAF Strategic Air Command in Oct. of 1956, when I was a freshman at Capitol University, Columbus, OH. SHALOM, you dummies.
An honest and dignified report, worthy of review by future generations. I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that history is being written by such journalists as Haberman and her colleagues.
*In February 2016, while delivering a victory speech following the Nevada caucuses, Donald Trump proclaimed his love for the various demographics that led him to victory.* *"I love the poorly educated."*
"""I love the poorly educated." So, you're saying that poorly educated means stupid? Are you saying you hate the poorly educated? Wouldn't it be stupid for the poorly educated to vote for you when you hate their guts so much? Did you ever think of that? Educated really means brainwashed, anyway. This has always been the case, for countless thousands of years. The sovereign always rounded up those who were foolish enough to let their intelligence show and made sure they were educated with the propaganda of the State. Then the educated were sure to support the status quo regime because their personal interests were now tied to it. Education has never ever been kind to those few who were inclined to think for themselves. Education does not mean learning, it really means something more like the opposite.
@@gatormcklusky5850 Trump did say " I love the poorly educated ". I saw it on TV. Look at all the videos of rallies. There's too many of these videos of him spouting insane, and viscious remarks at a rallies. Pity he didn't educate them more, your schools have too many people who don't benefit from a decent start in life.
A great journalist... I admire your listening skills almost as much as your writing. Thanks for continuing to share your insights Maggie. I live in the UK but subscribe to the NYT because of your work.
Maggie is professional, calm and accurate in her reporting and we can believe what she says as it comes from experience and a honesty which is rare in some media, she certainly is not prone to exaggeration or drama and is trustworthy.
Truly an extremely intelligent and astute professional. My respect for her grows every time I hear her speak or read her work. Her comments are always fair and thoughtful. We are lucky to have her fighting for a clear and balanced portrayal of this three-ring circus we seem to be witnessing in the present administration. You rock Ms. Haberman, keep fighting the good fight!
no, I don't think that is what she is saying. Did you listen to the whole thing? I'm about 35 minutes into it and she tells it like it is and doesn't seem pro trump or pro any past POTUS
Are you F'n Kidding me, Not only is she dry as toast, I actually thought she was an actress on SNL doing a comedy bit on boring reporters! She is a totally biased reporter dutifully following the people that pay her CNN.
Maggie Haberman is beautiful, intelligent, articulate, well-versed and informed. It is nice to have reporters and members of press like her informing the people at large. Transparency is knowledge and the launching pad for change.
Great presentation. One minor quibble: Her statement that the press doesn't have the role of holding the president accountable, Congress must do so. In my opinion, Congress has abdicated this responsibility. The public has no choice but to insist that the media hold him accountable. In one sense, Trump is right: the press is the opposition party. The Democrats strut and fret, but haven't done much to stop him and can't seem to coalesce around anyone or any issues to defeat Trump. Even those handful of Republicans who occasionally criticize him, such as Senator Graham, fall back to fawn over him and vote for his agenda. There are no Scotts and Goldwaters calling on him to resign. Only the press has brought forth stories that the WH initially denied, then was forced to admit begrudgingly, then tried to defend. In seeking and publicizing the truth, the press is revealing facts about Trump, his family, his campaign, his administration, that must cause the majority of Americans to oppose Trump. If you disagree, attack the message, not the messenger.
I think much of the media is holding him accountable. But Congress took an oath to support and defend the constitution. He has been in violation of the constitution since day one. We need to hold them accountable.
I reckon Maggie understands at least ten times as much about Trump and the media as most commenters on this board, including me. Thanks for keeping us informed, Maggie.
They laughed at him when he started in real estate. They laughed at him when he started The Apprentice. They laughed at him when he ran for president. Who's laughing now?

Squid Face, this is because he (Crump) is too stupid to realize that he is INCOMPETENT. An IMBECILE at its best. Good luck, America.
@ Yeah, you're right...worth how many billions of dollars? - marries and courts drop dead gorgeous women - employs approximately 20,000 people - written and published more than thirty books - leapt from no political experience into the US presidency. You're right, Masterbator-of-Self, he's an imbecile al right. And by the way; what are you doing with your life - I mean, other than breaking the record for going through the most jars of Vaseline?
Most valuable revelation is that Trump does not have a grand plan. He just doesn't think ahead. I've always strongly suspected this but many seem to think there's a grand plan.
How is this presentation just now coming up in my suggestions?.Wow. What an amazing speech. Maggie Haberman is a news goddess - this speech is so concise, informative, impartial, intelligent, articulate. I have the utmost respect for her and the NYT is one of my favorite publications. Thank you for this!
She was actually reading the CIA teleprompter and you listen what you are supposed to hear. Courtesy of the CIA, delivered by one of their stooges, Maggie.
The U.S. seriously needs to implement a process that will prevent more absurd characters like Trump or Sarah Palin. Trump wouĺd fail even the dumbest of social media IQ tests.
Ms. Haberman states that there is no larger strategy to Trump's statements and actions. While Trump's style can be shambolic, he never loses sight of the main prize; the aggregation of personal power. He has a keen sense of how power moves and flows by virtue of a lifetime's pursuit of it. He has built, by his charisma alone, an enormous base of ultra loyal followers to whom the republican establishment is slavishly beholden. All the power he has is merely a stepping stone to more power still. Power to install his children at the pinnacles of wealth and influence. Power to overthrow term limits on the Presidency. Power to plant his heal on our collective necks and keep it there for the rest of his life. Everything he does can be understood as moving him closer to his dream of wrapping himself in the mantle of the tyrant. His own self regard demands nothing less.
Maggie is really got it in for Democrats and why is it she never makes clear the conflict of interest she has w her mother’s PR firm dong PR for Jared’s Family!
Dave - No offense, but it's a shame you mention her looks first in that list. She is a highly respected journalist and you obviously respect her intellect. You really could have nailed the landing though. Oh well.
Brendan - So you fancy yourself a self-proclaimed "smart, straight guy." Sorry bud, but if someone tells you they're smart right off the bat, chances are...they ain't that smart. And why don't smart gay guys like being told the same thing? Perhaps you are over-compensating in that department too. Hmm? No offense, though.
Maggie Haberman is a fantastic journalist. Articulate and intelligent, as well as insightful. I worked at The Denver Post with some amazing reporters and Ms. Haberman is one of The New York Times finest. Well done, Maggie!
Trump.....below any level of this lady, and her ability to quantify and relate the reality that is this lost man...Always needing applause, always looking to blame...History....will not look back in a good way on this mess
She really lays out the landscape. I think a general point of dissonance between the media and this president would be an unconscious expectation of the media for the arc of the rhetorical narrative of Obama to continue soaring through Hilary, And the subsequent resentment that it hadn't. Obama didn't receive fair press either, but often in the opposite sense. He handed over more wars to Trump than he recieved from Bush. The media also helped Bush sell his war. I appreciated her comments in the q &a about the media's willingness to focus on non stories while failing to cover actual stories. This is a disservice and a rejection of responsibility, although I do feel that this type of reportage is being done, in what these reporters would consider to be, good faith.
The US economy under Trump is a success story and the statistics prove it. The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole... Trump 2020
Some day Maggie Haberman is going to be running a major news organization. (if Trump doesn't have all journalists exiled). She is intelligent, coherent, articulate and calm.
The reason we have to put up with Donald Trump in the White House is that a lot of people failed to realize the importance of voting. Votes win elections not the polls.
I'm British and don't claim to be familiar with Ms Haberman's person or work. I AM able to hear what she's saying here, however, and because she says it so calmly without hyperbole, it seems to me a very good vehicle for looking at the mindset of a person who, unlike President Trump, pretty well exemplifies the way in which the spirit of the present times gets under people's skin to become a reflexive second nature that just feels like common sense or received wisdom - something that it doesn't occur to them needs justifying. This is particularly important in this case as Donald Trump pitched himself to the American people as a gamechanger who opposed the 'swampy' spirit of the time, and dedicated himself to eradicating it and returning to a more traditionally American one. I actually found Ms Haberman's talk perceptive and surprisingly sympathetic to President Trump's personal idiosyncrasies and weaknesses. His paradoxical closeness to the media which he at the same time excoriates for disloyalty to America, is fascinatingly described by Haberman, but not definitively enough, I feel. She pays too much attention to the personal characterological bases for Trump's attitude to the media, and not enough to the fundamental reason the American electorate voted for him: his very exceptionalism with respect to the post-modern 'liberal' status quo. It isn't just Ms Haberman who's culpable of this oversight, but the great majority of the West's media outlets, which, in relentlessly pursuing Donald Trump's personal peccadillos and irregularities, fail to respect the wishes of the people who voted for him, and who were well aware of the kind of man he is and the life he's lived. He's been faced with a press which whilst being deeply opposed to the changes he promised, has ruthlessly tried to exploit his every personal flaw to discredit the political stance that he was elected to put into effect. That's why he accuses TODAY'S media - not the media as such - of disloyalty to America. He has 'fun' with them because it's their concern for his sexual conduct and his apparently loose-tongued showboating, which is the real game - in the way that Russian roulette is a game - a deadly serious one - the future the American people chose for themselves in rebellion against the status quo is at stake! With all due respect, Ms Haberman isn't and never has been in the same league as Donald Trump, who, by birth alone, was something like a crown prince compared to Ms Haberman's public service position. I say this not to claim that he's better than her, only to emphasise that she has no real grounds for claiming special insight into how his mind works. Donald Trump's privileges have made him exceptional, rightly or wrongly, which is what has made him the right man for this exceptional presidency. For good reason, Ms Haberman, in comparison, is just a reporter.
I agree with Maggie's father when he said during a CNN interview that he was impressed with the way his daughter's reporting was fair. While it may seem her reporting is left leaning, she has always qualified her remarks by adding, "In all fairness..." and reported additional information that might counter the argument when it was applicable.
Too bad she was working as a tool of the Clinton campaign during the election. To negate her fair reporting by acting as a PR arm for one side is unconscionable.
Suzanne Sands - You mean, like the entire Fux News Network? Maggie is the most fair and honest reporter you'll ever find. Just because her reporting of the facts doesn't meet with your view of things doesn't make her a tool, it makes your side wrong.
This does not negate the truth she speaks. This is why we get our info from multiple sources. The things she says can be corroborated. Faux News as a propaganda arm of the trump admin is unconscionable, Maggie's apparent conflict of interest is exaggerated. Again, one can check up on her allegations. I invite you to so.
Nope and yep. I have been, as it were, all up in Freud and Krafft-Ebing so I am aware of the basic defense mechs and the way the human mind does what it must to make the world make sense. Also, some stuff about human development and why little Fritz is sexually aroused by chamber pots and their contents. Some of the nope is the "but I'm an exception...you don't know me! (Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!)" The yep is "uh huh, true for all of us including the pedantic Knower of Souls; Speaker of Truths. I think you'll find more of the True Believer certainty on the conservative side of the divide. In spite of your Cool Story, Bro(!), trump is mushroom. Remember in Nov. to go vote to be heard, not continue in this un- civil war. But, the only way democrats can win in November is if they rig the electronic voting machines and continue to double vote, bus in out of state voters, etc....like they did to fix Roy Moore in AL. Democrat voters support the party of slavery, jim crow laws, kkk, confederate war heroes (racists), All Democrat politicians are RICH Fat Cats that have high crime and poverty districts. Democrat Party are violent, hateful, divisive, racist, un-American, Anti-American; advocate rebellion, sedition, anarchy in order to get what they want.
Pathetic WH staff, when simply acting like an "adult" is considered commendable. Used to be that "well-educated, competent, highly accomplished adult" was the pre-requisite for even being asked to submit your resume to the WH for evaluation, and being beholden to a corporation was something to be avoided, if possible.
It’s called “Narcissistic Supply” -what he’s looking for and you can NEVER FILL a Narcissist up! They’re NEVER HAPPY with the ATTENTION they do get-so he STIRS THE POT-to get MORE!
Yes, well organized, but missing is the way the press gave candidate Trump all the airtime, whether he was on the podium or just traveling to it!!! Most of the press was really appalling during the campaign. It was astounding!
A leader is human but fights back .He is not afraid of all he is up against. People don't see him as a rich man but as an equal that talks like them, thinks like them and acts like one of them. A man with balls!!!
Great analysis of what press means ...not gossip and social commentary but a voice of ANALYSIS and REPORTING FACTS independently about an administration whihc is Government for the people
the poll swere not as wrong as she is implying but that is a small detail. The polls reflected what would have been, had there not been interference, voter disenfranchisement, voter suppression, gerrymandering, and... the Russians. So, the polls reflected what the actual populace would have done were they permitted their rights.
Thank goodness he is a non traditional president. The world does NOT NEED A POLITICIAN in the top job. The old establishment has to go. Isn’t the total mess around the world enough evidence of that??
"You,The Media, should not be on Twitter all day...The White House uses Twitter all day to communicateLOLERCOPTERS!!!! "He was raised super rich but was rejected and laughed at by his class"WTF? His people hate him so let him be sh!tty president WHAt?!
The NY times is also not what they appear to be. Recently the NY Times hired a person named Sarah Jeong, a person who thinks white people should be eliminated. Don't complain about the character and approach President Trump takes when your newspaper hires and cheers on open racists.
This is such an important speech by Maggie Haberman, someone who has many years of experience reporting on orange turd. Someone should have helped out with sound, the echo on that mike is a pain. (The echo stopped at about 18 minutes in when you changed your distance to the mike.) And Maggie you are a nationally known reporter, you are not just editing some text here, you are in the role of a speaker. People care what you have to say, next time you are asked to speak -- and it will be soon, because you are a brilliant reporter -- please speak more clearly, and get someone to sound check you to minimize the echo. You are a very important reporter, your credibility is impeccable. Your message is of utmost importance, please reflect that in your delivery.
I just wish Haberman would use some cadence because it’s hard to listen to her droning on in monotone...this is important stuff but you could easily fall asleep hearing it.
The people chose 45, now the tyrants want the power back. Call these media traitors and tell them to shut the F up or tell the truth and support 45, support the people!
Ms Haberman thank you for giving me a new insight into Mr Trump. I try not to have so much disdain for him but its difficult for me.I have never seen such inmature dry drunk behavior from A United states President in my lifetime
Steve Turner interesting! After seeing that Trump doesn’t drink, and knowing that dry drunk refers to alcoholics who are not drinking but have all the behaviors of a practicing alcoholic, I agree that it covers a lot of his behaviors.

Finally, regardless of the coverage of the civil service laws or the Department’s anti-discrimination policy, we were also troubled by cases in which details of career attorneys who were performing in an outstanding fashion were terminated because of their political affiliation. Both Richmond and Goodling objected to extending the details of career attorneys in the ODAG even though the Deputy Attorney General and his staff supported the extensions. In both cases, the Deputy Attorney General and his staff rated the attorneys’ performance as outstanding. Haberman was born to a Jewish family[1] on October 30, 1973, in New York City, the daughter of Clyde Haberman, a journalist for The New York Times, and Nancy Haberman (née Spies), a media communications executive at Rubenstein.[2] At the firm, a "publicity powerhouse" whose eponymous founder has been called "the dean of damage control" by Rudy Giuliani, Haberman's mother has done work for a client list of influential New Yorkers including Donald Trump.
Wasn't this the woman who was on CNN with Keith Ellis and George Stephanopoulos, laughing hysterically about President Trump possibly winning the Election (2016)? What a hack.
ALL Republicans need to get out and vote in this November's midterms. We Republicans cannot sit back and expect a win. We must get out and vote. Offer someone a ride to the polls. Help someone get an absentee ballot. And for your Dem friends, politely give them this: #walkaway #walkaway
"Go to a trusted news source..." Well, there's the trick, eh? We USED to always have a Call Out Screen when an outlet was sharing an Editorial Opinion. NOT ANY MORE. It is ALL opinion... and media "customers" are SICK OF IT.
