Why did they have to make the headline “obama unleashes on tump, GOP”?... all thats doing is alienating people who might be fans of president trump from watching this and therefore not allowing them to hear his very important message. How are we going to begin to engage in constructive debate and discourse with people from opposing sides of the political spectrum if this is these are the headlines we see? In my opinion the title is contributing to the same division Obama is saying we need to fix. Why couldn’t they have put “obama delivers speech on political climate and importance mid term elections”? People complain about how little Obama got done, but they don't take any responsibility for it. He had a lot of great ideas when he first took office, but had to focus on the economy for many months. Then apathetic NON-voters let the GOP take the House in 2010, which killed any chance of his agenda getting thru. Obama needed the country to remain engaged after his election, but they went back to their lives and left him to do the hard part, without any real grassroots engagement. He needed voters to be pressuring their reps to build momentum, but that support simply wasn't there. Now things are different. Makes me almost ashamed I didn't vote for him. I had tremendous respect for Senator McCain and Governor Romney, so I don't regret supporting them. I had some real disagreements with President Obama, although I always made clear that it wasn't personal and never wished him ill. But I can tell you that I would take him over Donald Trump any day (I went 3rd party in 2016)! Also, I can see now how some of his policies were actually good and that the delayed recovery began to speed up considerably in the final two years of his tenure. If the Republican Party keeps going the way it is, I may switch parties completely. As it is, I will be among those voting out this batch of Republicans who are propping up an erratic, mean-spirited and self-promoting president.

As someone whose own first voter registration card said "Republican" - change, For the past 20 years, the Republicans have been sliding into the abyss of corruption and cynicism. It started out slow, but it's been speeding up. I left the party over a decade ago because I saw how they were prioritizing the rich over the poor, the deficit over people's lives. It's only gotten worse, to the point where anyone who pays attention to what's going on beyond the flag waving and us-vs-them rhetoric can see they're bought and paid for. The Democrats are far from perfect, but until we have a viable third party, our options are choosing politics of destruction or politics that we can live with.

This November 6, my 90yo mother will vote in a midterm election for the first time in her life. Why? Because I took the time to explain to her all of the things that are at stake. I will be voting too, but I always do. My point is that if you vote yourself and you get just one other person to do the same, just imagine the impact that we can have when you take that simple idea and multiply it by millions.
