In my understanding, it depends on the point of transition from male to female. In June 2022, World Aquatics, swimming's governing body, voted to restrict transgender athletes from competing in elite women's aquatics competitions unless they transitioned before age 12. There are many young girls who are competing at levels showing the likelihood of an Olympic future. I know one. She is quite young now and little likely to be so challenged but as she ages, some transgender swimmer could end all her hopes and dreams by blowing her out of the water. I would like to see a solution that is fair for all. Is there one?

If we can justify and support a Special Olympics category, then we can create and support a new "trans" Olympiad and competitions. We woudn't expect or want disabled or mentally challenged athletes to have to try and compete against athletes without physical or mental impairments because it isn't fair. We shouldn't expect female athletes to compete against trans-female athletes in certain sports where the trans athlete has an obvious and distinctive advantage (e.g., powerlifting, shotput/discus, swimming, decathelon....etc).

Lifelong liberal here: what's not fair is giving places in women's sports to men AT ALL. Every single spot taken by a man has cheated a female athlete out of her opportunity to participate in her own sport. He has a men's division to compete in, just as he has always had. Men should not steal women's sports opportunities.

THANK YOU. The story to which Harry alludes about the swimmer would not be of anyone getting clobbered by a trans woman....Lia Thomas did not WIN. She TIED Riley Gaines...FOR FIFTH PLACE. It saddens me to see even reputable, honest sources of information fall victim to right-wing propaganda - especially when it fuels violence and hate toward a group as small and marginalized as trans people.

Yes! They preference their discomfort over the health of a tiny minority of people who just want to be able to live their best lives. The so-called disruption to "society" wouldn't exist if their bigotry didn't cause it.

It doesn't matter how good or not good the male athlete is after taking puberty blockers, taking wrong-sex hormones, and undergoing surgery. The point is that he can't actually change his sex. He can continue to compete in the men's division, just as he always has. Leave women's sports for actual women. Every man that takes a spot in women's sports has cheated a woman of her rightful place in her own sports.

In many instances, the separation is by sex, not by gender. Sports are segregated by sex. If they weren't, there never would have been any women's sports at all. Leave women's sports for the women. The trans identified man can still compete in the men's division, just as he always had. It's time that men learned that there is more than one way to be a man.

the gender neutral bathrooms are usually single stall. you have to go out of your way to find them but they’re usually the cleanest and most private bathrooms

Even Bruce Jenner the gold medal athlete in Olympic games back in the 70's said that it was not fair for a male transgender to compete against women.This was said after he made the change.

Well the women's category was introduced in most cases to allow men to succeed against women, just as with race segregated sports in America. There are some instances where a women's category was introduced to foster more female competition than an open category would allow for just by the dominant culture like chess which has an open category and a men's category. It's a nuanced issue and I don't think segregation is the full solution. Maybe introducing an open category would be one solution.

Trans women underperform in sports even before transition, and against men and cis women. Hrt further inhibits their performance. Barely any athlete can maintain their abilities through transition, and those that do run headlong into the fact that athletic standards force them to keep testosterone levels so low their bodies can't even repair itself.

Yeah..."clobbering". Jesus...what an absolute smear. Harry is better than this. Lia Thomas didn't "clobber" anyone. She tied an attention-hungry conservative young woman...FOR FIFTH PLACE...and MAGA made her opponent famous for failing to make the podium while tying a trans girl.

Lia Thomas was not a competitive swimmer before her transition. During the last season Thomas competed as a member of the Penn men’s team, which was 2018-19, she ranked 554th in the 200 freestyle, 65th in the 500 freestyle and 32nd in the 1650 freestyle. As her career at Penn wrapped, she moved to fifth, first and eighth in those respective events on the women’s deck. Lia Thomas absolutely knocked Riley Gaines down the rankings, and affected the likelihood Gaines would be able to stand on the podium. And bumped every other XX person with a slower finishing time down the rankings. I don't think there's much question that on average a person born XY and who does not transition early in puberty is going to be physically stronger than someone born XX. Are all XY folks stronger or more physically capable than all XX folks? Absolutely not. Are XY folks on the whole stronger than XX folks on the whole? Yes. Are XY folks who transition dominating all sports? No. Are they displacing XX folks in the overall rankings? Absolutely.

@@AndyCutrightyou’re lying about lia. she was a competitive swimmer pre-transition. she went from top 60 her sophomore year to top 500 the year she started testosterone blockers and estrogen, and she went back to top 30s her senior year. top 60s to top 30s is a super normal progression from sophomore to senior year of college. stop acting like she jumped crazy far, most the top 30s women would place bottom 500s if they competed in men’s swimming

the two sports wasn’t about making it fair for women. originally women were banned from playing so they forced their way into men’s sports. men realized they couldn’t stop the trend so they decided to make the competitions “fair” by introducing women’s leagues.

There are several solutions. People can compete on teams of their biological sex. We can stop medicalizing children - as they are doing in liberal European countries. There are non-competitive intramural sports. Find other hobbies. Etc.

Instead of saying "born as a biological male" it's better to say "asigned male at birth" I would tend to avoid the term biological male in relation to trans-women at all because it has an ongoing history. Transmedicalism is a whole complicated issue I am not qualified to talk about but in brief being trans is not measured by what surgeries someone has had. Trans women in sports. If you're going to state things as fact you should know the facts.
