President Trump made history when he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and then crossed over the DMZ and stepped onto U.S. soil. CBS News' Weijia Jiang reports from the DMZ.
This is his only foreign policy achievement which is piggy backing off of President Moon's ground work........he is propagating awful war in Yemen that is targeting civilians and kids by aiding Saudi Arabia with weapons and international support, creating a climate for war with Iran, pushing for a Venezuelan coup by helping to further the humanitarian crisis there, not leaving Afghanistan and Syria, letting Israel run wild with settlements and strikes that are killing Palestinian civilians, Makes no statements on Sudan because Saudi Arabia has a vested interest in keeping Sundan under it's thumb and I guess they are happy with the child soldiers going to Yemen. So while these talks with DPRK is good progress......this is a media photo op meant to get press about the "progress" they are making. Dictatorships love a good photo op for propaganda .........so don't expect me to act like this man has made this world so much more peaceful while propagating war and humanitarian crisises in every other corner of the world. I'll be waiting for a deal with DPRK that is serious on nuclear disarmament ( oh wait we had something like that with Iran but we pull out instead of trying to make it better, I hope that doesn't affect our trustworthiness around the world)

I do agree that's it's better than war, but Trump is being played by Kim Jon Un just like his Grandfather and Dad tried to play all the other U.S. Presudents, only the others were smarter than Trump. Anyone who supports someone who kills his own family would do the samething to anyone else if given the chance, and he would do the same to Trimp.
He could sign a Peace Treaty next, without any concessions because nothing is lost signing a piece of paper. So everything is cool with NK, I suspect China and Russia already are normalizing relations overtly or covertly, they never had a beef with the country in the first place. If the goal is to sign an agreement, withdraw troops, drop sanctions (unilaterally the US does everything NK wants) Trump could have done that the first month in office. NK might have held back on development of it's nukes. After Iran there is zero chance you will ever see Kim get rid of his nukes because there is no way you could convince him the next Bush would not finish the job concerning this brutal dictator in NK. And don't forget regime change/execute the leader for crimes against his people Bolton will be involved with the 'team' doing the negotiations.
Let's give Both these leaders props for making this happen. 70 yrs of hostility won't go away overnight but climbing the stairway to peace step by step is the right thing to do.
He probably actually set the thing up. A lot of people on both sides North & South want to unite. Put history behind them and be one people again. The leaders are starting to listen.
Agree with FR. S Korea has far more to gain from this than the US. It isn't difficult to discern when genuine vital interests of the US are not at stake: Our leaders are willing to settle for an outcome short of total victory. Richard Nixon's "victory speech" after our "victory" in Vietnam is the perfect illustration of this.

@Carin Hall which is easier? Getting a bitter enemy to change their ways, or a trusted friend? Trump knows how to butter people up, and Kim is known for his celebrity worship (Dennis Rodman, etc.). This is masterful diplomacy that has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of North Korean civilians. Positive cultural influence could soften Kim and get the boot off the backs of the populace over time.

There is literally no down side to this diplomacy. I am very impressed with President Trump and Chairman Kim. The world is a considerably safer place today because of the example set by these two men.

I am not American and even I know this history. We in Thailand have a good relationship with the US and the two Koreas. I also have family living in Japan. Trump's relations with North Korea is very important for peace in the region.

He bombed and left Libya to chaos. He didnt have Israels back, our closest ally. He let our allies take advantage of us and our enemies didnt respect us. He was a mediocre domestic president and a horrible international president. Trump economy is roaring, he is closer to peace with NK than any other president, he's negotiating fairer trade deals for America, he's making allies pay their fair share, he' s rebuilding our depleted military. Trump has been wildly successful.

Kim knows if the US decided to show him real nuclear bombs up close his regime would crumble faster than a stack of cards.
